Evil Ryu General Discussion: Same Ryu, but now he's pissed!

So, Akuma is my main and I´ve recently been playing Evil Ryu. I was trying to find out which characters can be sweeped after lk tatsu, and I could only do it on five of them: Dhalsim, Cammy, Dee-Jay, Balrog and Rose. Am I missing any other “sweepable” characters?

Sorry if this has been answered already, but I couldn´t find a thread on the subject.

Nope! That’s it.

Don’t forget about DP FADC hk axe kick though if you want a hard knockdown off a tatsu.

I plan on incorporating the shenanigans and cross down resets in the guide today hopefully. I also found that you can cross under certain characters when they’re in the corner (Guile) while others you cannot (Ibuki). I saw the list that TKO_Foxhound did, but is there a list for characters that are in the corner? If not I’m gonna hit the lab and take note before I incorporate it in the guide.

Watched a vid online of ryu vs fei long that ryu did backthrow, whiffed cr MP,j attack and it was a safe jump.Test it and it works for evil ryu too,so it may be a 5 frames reversal safe jump for chars with the same wake up frames as fei long. Also i tested backthrow 2 dashes forward Tatsumaki(HK)[cross up] to all roster but it wont hit if opponent doesnt hold back or down back as he gets up(perhaps its another condition am not sure)I ll post it later.Mafamaticks u are doing g8 job for organasing and updating ev ryu forums, keep it up

It’s a frame perfect safe jump on normal wakeup timing. You can safe jump Guile with it.

Cool,so its 4+ frame reversals safe jump on normal wake up timing

Can be dped,Tatsumaki whiffs if opponent is holding any other directon than back, down back

Just stoped by to tell that E.R. j.HK after the dp xx hcf HK is also unblockable against seth, but the timming is different from guile’s one, I havent find any move to count the time to jump, however.

Shit my main is Seth lol. Can he DP or EX SPD the j.hk?

I figured this out a short while ago, but the method is a little different

I’ve been messing around with these to see if they work off different versions of the axe kicks that leads to hard knockdowns(HK, EX, and MK off a juggle). And they all work, the timing is just different since they all leave the opponents grounded for a slightly different amount of time. For example with Guile

SRK, FADC, HK axe kick: cr. HK(as Naga showed off)
SRK, FADC, MK axe kick: Dash, cl. MK
cl. MP, HK axe kick: Dash, cr. MP
cl. HP, EX axe kick: cl. HP

The timing I’m using is very close, but I’m not sure if it’s frame perfect though. But test it for yourself if you like.

I think it’s moreso the recovery on the different kicks that’s different than the recovery of the opponent.

Good point, I think your right. I didn’t even think about that until you mentioned it.

Does anybody know if there’s any other way to buy Arcade Challengers pack on 360?Other than inside game cause is still freezing

Found another unblockable, this time against Dhalsim. After landing EX axe kick back dash and pause ever so slightly and then do a jumping HK. If they hold back, you land a cross up HK. If they hold forward, you land a j. HK to there frontside. The best news, THIS WORKS MID SCREEN.

Of course the best way would be a actual combo. But in the video I just decided to do a block string into EX overhead. I guess the idea is that you may not have a opportunity to land a actual combo into EX axe kick against Dhalsim(since he’s Dhalsim), so maybe you can try to catch Sim players sleeping. All you need is one chance though because 1 EX axe kick into a BNB starting with j. HK nets you a ton of damage and stun.

Good shit. Added.

AFAIK… Nope. No costumes for you.

None for me either… I’m in the same boat.

I see, thank you for repplying

Just wanted to say that Evil Ryu can do a cross up HK in the corner that will hit if it’s blocked as a cross up. This works against a lot of characters. I didn’t test everybody, but it did work against about 9 characters of the 20-25 characters that I’ve tested so far. The key to starting this is landing a axe kick into a hard knockdown. That’s with either HK axe kick(grounded or juggle), EX axe kick(grounded or juggle) or MK axe kick(only when juggled). And since the recovery is different on all 3 versions the timing is also different.

I’ll try to come up with a list later but it’s a good mix up if you ever find yourself in this position in the corner. Or if you dizzy your opponent, instead of a throw or a max damage combo, just do cl. MP xx HK axe kick or cl. HP xx EX axe kick to set this up. But even if your opponent knows what your attempting, it’s still a 50/50 since you could easily just do a cross up MK instead which will hit if they simply hold back expecting a cross up HK instead.

Ok, here is the list of corner set ups against various characters. Under the circumstances that I’ve found, you need to land a axe kick or a throw. After doing this, do whatever I listed below and then a cross up HK. If they block it as a cross up, it will hit. These are not unblockables though so they will block if it they hold back even though the move crosses up.

Now I will only list one example for EX axe kick(I’m guessing this is the most likely to land in a match) because he has 3 different versions that lead to a hard knockdown and I think even DP, FADC, Axe kick has a different timing than landing a axe kick on a grounded opponent.

Another thing, just because I list one way to whiff a normal to time the jump in, it doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways. I’m just not willing to try every single possible way because that would take so much time. And it may be possible to do this with other versions of the axe kick rather than EX. Not because it’s not possible, but maybe none of his normals will give you the right timing for EX, but it may do so for MK or HK versions.

Throws:

El Fuerte: whiff cr. HP
Dan: whiff st. HK
Cody: whiff cr. HP or st. HK(although cr. HP leaves you a bit closer)
Ryu: whiff st. HK
Ken: whiff st. HK
Ibuki: whiff st. HK
Guy: whiff st. HK
Dudley: whiff st. HK
Akuma: whiff st. HK
Oni: whiff st. HK
Juri: whiff st. HK
Fuerte: whiff st. HK
Balrog: whiff st. HK

Yes I realize there is a pattern here and I probably didn’t need to list the same move so often, but I was writing this down as I went through each character.

Axe kick:

Makoto: whiff cr. HP
Sakura: whiff st. HP
Oni: whiff st. HP
Gouken: whiff st. HP
Bison: whiff st. HP
Viper: whiff st. HP
Cammy: forward dash and whiff cr. LP
Guy: whiff cr . MK(or as Naga showed off, it works from HK axe kick with a double dash)
Hakan: whiff st. HP
Fei Long : forward dash and whiff cr. LP
T. Hawk: forward dash and whiff cr. MP

Interesting finds:

Juri: If you land EX axe kick, dash forward and whiff a cr. MP you won’t cross up her and can land a j. HK if she’s blocking it as a cross up.
Rufus: after a throw, pause and then whiff st. HP. This will cause your j. HK to not cross up but your j. MK will
Sagat: after a throw, whiff a cr. HP. This will cause your j. HK to not cross up but your j. MK will.
Chun Li: After a throw, whiff sweep and your j. HK won’t cross up
Viper: after throw, whiff a st. HK and you’ll cross up after a j. HK on hit, but won’t on block
Guy: same as Viper
Everybody else: after a throw Evil Ryu will not cross up every other character after a whiffed HK(except Chun Li, Viper, Guy). But at the range your at after a throw, people will think cross up.

Questions:

  1. What about Reversals?
I tried to reversal the throw set ups. It’s possible but very difficult, even with charge characters. The only one I could do it consistently with was Dee Jay of course.

  2. What about dashes?
OS HK tatsu and HP/EX SRK will catch some but not all dashes

  3. What about focus dashes?
Since it’s in the corner, there isn’t much room to dash away. So you can punish people trying to do this, but not every character. I know it won’t work against Makoto but I haven’t tested everybody. But for some characters with good dashes, it’ll be awkward. For example I couldn’t get Bison to focus the cross up HK in the throw set up.

  4. How does this confuse my opponent?
You’re constantly putting them in a guessing game. You can hit them with a cross HK or a ambiguous one that looks like it will, but won’t. If they’re prepared for that, you can just do a regular cross up MK if they’re just holding back. This will work against almost everybody except really big characters like Seth and Sagat.

Unlike the dive kick set ups or other characters jump set ups where they whiff a normal, there are no visual cues to look for. You whiff the st. HK to set up the jump in, but they still have to guess whether you press MK or HK. It’s completely a 50/50 if they attempt to block it.

I purposely left out Seth, Dhalsim, and Guile because those 3 have unblockable set ups. So against every character in this game Evil Ryu has a pretty good set up to use in the corner. It’s pretty amazing how combining Ryu’s st. HK and Akuma’s j. HK could have resulted in this. That’s all I got for now. Hopefully somebody can put this stuff to use.

Where can i find the unblockable setup vs seth
?
