Since Shuma’s combos appear to have so many nuances, what should I be learning to work in first? When I see Shuma combos, I see jump loops, Mystic Stare links, linking H into other normals, and other cray cray stuff. I am not consistent with any of that, but I like the character enough to learn.

After Angelic’s showing at Evo I’m seriously looking at Shuma. I’d really appreciate an updated OP or some notations for optimized combos, I’ve been reading through the thread but it’s tough to piece everything together from scratch. It looks like Shuma’s combos are similar to Storm’s, where you have a ton of different options and its just a matter of finding the ones that cause the least hitstun decay.

Good luck finding combos for any character. That’s the only thing stopping me from learning half the cast- the fact that every character’s combo thread is straight garbage and not updated since before Christ was born.

So I’ve been trying to play Shuma and umm real talk. I want to kill myself. His combos are confusing as shit and it’s not the charge timing that’s easy it’s every thing else?
Would anyone be willing to help a poor soul out?

I’m having trouble doing the mystic ray into mystic stare at the very end of combos. I can’t tell if I’m too late or too early and it’s seriously a bitch haha.
I should be using ray m and stare m too right?

Also what do you guys do for midscreen command throw/regular throw combos?
Finally why does Tonosama do the combos that he does? The standing :l: doesn’t seem very efficient at all. Do they go farther or build more meter?

Just thought I would mention, I find that doing Cr.:h:, j.:h:, :l: j. Mystic Smash is a lot easier and more damaging than just doing :m: j. Mystic Smash (For the front page combo)


What is he doing to start his combos?

I’m talking about the part in brackets. I was practicing it this morning and I did it 5 times on each side. Then I came home after a few hours and I couldn’t do it anymore.

Looks like cr :m::h: jc :m::u::h: cr :h::s: to me. I’d try that and see if you have more success.

That’s what I was trying it doesn’t land as fast as his does. IDK where he’s delaying stuff.

It’s an air dash before the :m:, and in my opinion you’re better off just jump cancelling the cr :h: into j :m::h::u::h: and then into launcher. The distance traveled to the corner and damage are barely different, and my version is much simpler to execute.

I’m usually pretty good with it but I’m dumb inconsistent occasionally.
I can practice it for like 30 minutes and then I’m good for a while but if I don’t play for a day or two then my timing goes to the toilet and I have to keep practicing it and it really turns me off. The main trouble comes with the height at which I hit sj :h::s: depending on how long I take with that my timing on the ground screws up.
Will doing mystic ray :m: help? I tried it out and there wasn’t much of a difference.

Sorry for not answering your question properly before.

When I’m going the j. :h::s: I actually hold :d: the moment I connect the :s: (I may be over-thinking but I also let go of :s: right as it connects so I don’t get an incidental exchange) . From there I do a quick 2-count in my head and press up :h: , immediately holding :b: during the Mystic Ray animation, slamming the sick :f: for the Mystic Stare :l: as the eyes explode.

Another thing that helps is just practicing Mystic Ray into Mystic Stare, even if it doesn’t connect. That way you’ll have the timing so that when the eyes explode and give you the extra hitstun, you’ll have the motion and time down to connect the eyes.

Sorry for the double post, I was able to do it without the airdash consistently, but it’s definitely not a confirm that I would use, ever.

Np lol I don’t have any trouble with that combo except timing the mystic ray for the eyes to explode on time. No trouble with charging or anything but thanks for the help.

What if you start off in the corner, do you usually do the TK Medium Mystic Smash then dash underneath to put them in the corner? Would you be able to do a fullscreen tutorial soon? Thanks much.

I am having some problems with the bnb angelic posted. All the other parts are fine, but the last bit where you otg with the ray and put the eye on them again into super, they always flip out of the ray so the eyes miss. Is the combo pushing the hitstun really high at that point or is there some tricks to get that part consistently?

it’s a timing thing,wait a little after you use S,then use the mystic ray. if they flip out while your hitting them with the ray,then your timing is to early
