End of Summer Tourney! Chicago, IL 9/18/10 (SSF4/BBCS/T6/HDR/MBAA/TvC)

Stream’s Web Address?

Nice job lying about having a stream. I can only imagine the clusterfuck thats going on at the tournament

Well I really appreciate the attempt at the tournament but it could have been ran better. This is in no way to flame or start any trolling, I am just simply stating a few things that I think could have been done better.

For one I brought a setup that I solely brought as a backup in case all the setups were too packed, so I wanted to have something to have some casuals on. Behold a few hours later everyone was swarming it, like 20 people watching one setup of SSF4 trying to get in the rotation.

SSF4 has a strong following and in no way should the players have to wait for multiple hours with NO setups for casuals. I did notice a ton of screens downstairs in the basement and was wondering why the smash bro players / naruto game players needed like 6 or more setups for casuals yet SSF4 had 0 aside from my little setup? Or perhaps I saw things wrong? But anyways I really did start to get bored as hell after waiting around for so long.

I witnessed at least 10 people who said they were bored cause the wait was either too long or they thought it wasn’t cool being put on the back burner while the basement was being use for games that aren’t anywhere near as popular. I definitely saw quite a bunch of regulars that attend tournaments just flat out take off.

SSF4 started 2 hours and 30 minutes later then it should have too…

But aside from that It did look pretty crowded which lead me to believe that they possibly had way more people then expected which could also be a cause to the late starting of the tournament. But what I’m really griping towards is the fact that a ton of players were left in the cold with nothing to do for a bunch of hours to the point where people would leave. If I didn’t have to work id definitely would have brought my 3 27" tube TVs to help shit run faster. Next time either we need more setups or we need to distribute the setups wiser.

Aside from that I had a good time socializing with a ton of players I haven’t seen in a while and of course with a ton of players that I do see quite often. I love tournaments, lets keep them rolling. And thanks to Dark Kakashi for going out of his way to put something so great in his OWN HOUSE!!! Gotta respect that much!!

D

There was only 2 or 3 setups for super because nobody brought super setups. Brawl players brought their setups, let em have their setups. Tekken players brought their setups, and donated one to super’s cause because- nobody brought any super setups.

You gotta understand this wasn’t a mainly super 4 tournament (lolcrazy). So there won’t be ‘guaranteed’ setups for that game. People that want their game played have to bring setups. I see no problem in this.

Ok and where were those setups u speak off? The whole time I was there I saw 0 setups aside from mine. All the space was being used…thanks for trying though Hero lol. And of course you see no problem in this as you don’t care about SSF4, stop being so biased all the time. I am not talking about the actual tournament…please read what I said carefully. Anyways a ton of people had setups on them but there was no where to put these setups for even casuals…so a bunch took off. Ok please don’t turn this into a troll session I was just trying to say to spread out the room / setups a little better next time.

No one lied about the stream. And everyone present for the tournament who knew a stream would be there, can vouge and say we tried to get it up and running. I’ve been running my own stream at home the whole week before this tournament. And was told by DK that the internet (wireless) at the venue (his home) would be strengthened come the tournament (which was yesterday). I brough ALL my equiptment for a stream even a dedicated t.v, consoles, and games for it as well. When I got to the venue there were WAY more people than I even expected to show up (there were close to 50+ people there eventually…for a variety of fighting games mind u). And the set up I had envisioned for the stream was supposed to be in the basement of the venue (again his house) with all the bell and whistles in tact. Since everything was starting a bit late, and nothing was set up as I planned, AND THE INTERNET WASN’T STRENGTHED (barely 3 bars of wireless no thanks, and mind u I was stationed to do the stream in a fucking garage lol)…I was like “fuck it”.

And I will admit, when I got settled in and before our main even took place (Frankie G. vs Floe BBCS $30 MM)…Floe and I had a MM in Tekken 6 that took a lil longer than I could even dream of. So + $60 gained in Tekken 6  minus shitty wireless internet = stream just wasn’t doable.

We’ll plan better next time, and hopefully all ducks will be in order. :china:

Tactics: I totally understand where u are coming from bro. But the fact of the matter is is that the 2d SSF4 community FAILED at bring SSF4 setups. And that’s why the Smash players weren’t kicked off right away because NOT MANY (hardly anyone) brought SSF4 setups. Also those T.Vs that were in the basement probably belonged to the Smash players. So I dunno how they’d feel about us taking over their T.Vs (I know in your head you’re probably saying: “fuck them” LMFAO!!!). But again hardly any of the SSF4 players brough setups.

This has been a big problem for 2d players attending DK tournaments. I seriously don’t know why that is. DK and I or any other T.O at that tournament doesn’t have a gagillion PS3, copies of SSF4, and etc. etc. The COMMUNITY…2D COMMUNITY, really needs to step it up and support your tournaments by bringing full set ups and get that venue fee waived.

If Smash players can do this so well to support their community…why can’t we?

Guys great times yesterday. I love almost each and everyone of yous. NO HOMO. PAUSE. FULL LUBERCATION!!! Chicago really knows how to treat their guest. And I thank you all for that. Miguel, special thanks to you. For allowing all these Noobs to invade your house. U KNOW I <3 YOU, YOUR SCRUBBY ASS BRO, AND YOUR WONDERFUL FAMILY. Everyone who came from OOS, guys you folks rock and I thank you for making the trip. To everyone who helped run brackets, thank you so very much for your efforts. I really dunno what else to say. I’m really happy we have the community we do, I’m so happy to be part of it. And I thank you all for making this community as fun as it is. From the shit talking to the jokes to the great and shitty matches…

THANK YOU!!! :china:

Oh and btw…

LMFAO!!! @ Ari

<3

???

unfortunately you had a weird day losing to scrubs (me, frankie, da beast). i’m sure this will be corrected next time?

run back?

edit: btw again, my bad for the $10 misunderstanding. I wasn’t thinking clearly. was rather excited after the frankie MM u had.

but fuck it, RUN ALL THAT SHIT BACK!!!

I don’t want to see arguments but I do enjoy criticism. Thank you Tactics for your feedback I don’t take it as a flame. So no worries. I will say one thing, the turn out for this was a lot bigger than i expect and that help in some stuff running late since those set ups were been used for other events at the time. That been said, I will look in ways to help improve that for future events and hopefully that does not happen again.

I will like to say that with all the people that showed up and all the stuff that happened we still ran all the tournaments I said I would run at this event. I know from my previous events I had to cancel tournaments due to time issues and other stuff, but I am glad I did not cancel any tourney this time and everyone that showed up for a tourney no matter the size of it had a chance to play in it.

I would also like to thank all the new players that showed up. it was nice to see so many new players at the tourney and hopefully it sparks their interest to go into future events in the city and suburbs to help built the community and scene as a whole.

Thanks alot for running that event, so many games im sure it had to be a bit stressful to deal with. I had a ton of fun though seeing a ton of old faces lol.

Webster if you read my post I clearly stated that people had brought setups but they saw no space or weren’t advised on where to setup(which they probably should have asked). I think some just assumed that we had no space cause the basement was full of the smash players and outside had no room so they disregarded…and you are right Webster I dont think they wanted to go downstairs to the cheese factory lol(no offense to the smash community but it was a little musky down there)

Chicago SF scene definitely needs to speak up more instead of just assuming. But seriously id love to go to more events and I hope you have one lined up again soon.

Either way Webster and Mike I think im interested in doing a special Midwest event basically targeting the Midwest player base to come compete in a ton of games to bring us together and duke it out at least twice a year. Id like to have a 5v5 state vs state round robin exhibition for SSF4 too just for fun and possibly other games if we have a game that multiple states play. Basically a bonding event!!I have a feeling we could talk to Galloping Ghost Arcade about this and if not we could try to ask Nickel City again lol.

I think that would be pretty cool

I dunno if anyone ever explained it…but why did people stop running 2d events at Nickels anyways?

I cant remember i think it was had something to do with the owner of the arcade complaining about something but I wasnt around much when that happened so I’m not too sure.

I have no problem with making another big event. I have no problem looking at those venues for help. With the turn out at my last event I don’t want to use my place because I fear I won’t have room for everyone, so with that said I am in full support of looking for a venue to host a big event. My place was a last resort when everyone else turned me down. but I would really like to have a nice venue for my next event.

I apologize for not being able to make the event…I really hope i can catch your next one!!
