I have trouble punishing this…
Meaty cr.LK OS cr.HK or Slide.
Personally I like to let people get away with it until I have ~1.4 bars.
Hard read with H Mallet Smash into FADC combo for 440-500 damage.
i.e.
H Mallet Smash > cr.MP xx H Lynx Tail (3-hit FADC) st.HP xx M Rhino Horn > H/EX Scratch Wheel
H Mallet Smash > cr.MP xx H Lynx Tail (3-hit FADC) st.HP xx H Spin Scythe
H Mallet Smash > cr.MP xx H Lynx Tail (3-hit FADC) st.HK > cr.LP > cr.MP xx M Spin Scythe
Must use the last one vs Elena/Honda/Yang/Yun because st.HP whiffs.
Can also do a high-risk high-reward reset after cr.LP to leave them one hit from stun.

- cr.LP > cr.MK xx EX Mallet Smash
Any tips on shortcut inputs for using lynx tail in combos, shortcut i use for dps (df, d, db, d, df) in reverse doesn’t work, it. Had some success with db,f,b and db, ub, db.
I just reset to neutral. I assume she has to be difficult to play else she would be even more top tier. Was like 8 Elena in top 24 at FR18 btw.
I noticed that sako does ex mallet smash then cr lp rhino horn, is this character specific?
That combo works on the entire cast.

I need to ask about what shortcuts to use while doing cr.jab > cr. jab > lynx tail. Is there a video that goes through it in detail? Any help would be great! Thanks!
What matchups does Elena win? I only know a handful.
She poops on Dudley from what I can tell. She’s a ton of low pokes and that’s his biggest weakness. He can’t get close because nothing he has while advancing towards her has low body invincibility, including Cross Counter and his Ducks. Her wide array of anti-air normals keeps his j.HK in check. When played correctly, Elena is a wall of limbs that he can’t get through.
Prime example would be the Smug vs Gamerbee match that happened at NCR this past weekend. Smug couldn’t get in, got out footsied the entire set.
Her slide pressure makes her good against shotos but I don’t know if I’d call them guaranteed wins. Her cr.LP distance and speed also stuffs shoto cr.MK. Take cr.MK away from a shoto and they have no idea what to do it feels like lol unless you’re Ken, then you step kick.
Ah yeah, Dudley was one I never thought about until I saw that match, she beats Bison in the footsie game too. It’s like you play almost the same, then one overhead/back throw… HEEEAAAAAALING. You can probably force him to jump which is bad for Bison.
Im also assuming divekick characters give her problems.
There are no shortcuts! Sprint has a tip on getting it more constantly on this page or the page before this one but to really do this link you need to be already buffering lynx tail as your pressing cr jab. It’s not fast it’s slow and steady.
Could anyone help me a bit with Elena? There’s a few things I wanna know/clear up

It it worth to punish DP’s etc with x into LK RH > EX SW? Or am I better getting a possible setup from SW?

Is it worth learning this gal properly? Im torn between her, Akuma and Guile. In terms of fun, not tier listings.
I think she can do more damage for a bar.
I believe it’s airborne frame 6.
She’s good I think. If you look around in the combo thread/ frame data stuff all your questions can be answered there. So sad how inactive this board is.
What do you guys think of using st.HK as a poke? Solid range, a decent confirm if you get the cr.LP link down (especially on counterhit), and puts her airborne in a trade situation, which makes it really hard for the opponent to plan around trading with it in footsies like you would vs most characters.

Eh, I prefer to save meter for her EX RH/MS at neutral and EX SW as a defensive option. Elena’s damage is rather lackluster, so you should focus on positioning over raw damage.

No, it takes 7 frames to get airborne, and even then it doesn’t really beat lows out as cleanly as you’d think. Go for b.HK; it’s airborne on frame 6 and actually evades lows. It’s also even on block, so you are in a good spot for a throw or a cr.LP.

Depends on what you call “fun”. Elena has both amazing footsies and amazing mix-ups at the expense of damage and defensive options. If you like making your opponent feel completely helpless as they fail to execute their game plan, you should like her. If you’d rather play an air game and have better defensive options and damage but have worse normals, play Akuma. If you want fantastic defense and normals/footsies and are willing to take a hit to your mix-up ability, play Guile. More than most characters, Elena relies on reading the opponent and completely stuffing what they intended to do. If you don’t really like having to observe your opponents and play around their style, run Akuma or Guile for a more consistent playstyle.
st. RH usually works very well for me, but at the range I use it in footsies I’m usually not close enough for the cr. LP link.
Wonder how Sako will do at EVO this year.
The patch REALLY helped this character. Imo she went from being low tier to being arguably top 10 in the game. The only character that actually benefited more from 1.04 patch changes was Rolento.
Top ten? Eh idk I haven’t been playing. I did watch sako vs momochi earlier. I’m not expecting much from sako tbh.
Their was a lot Elena at evo and the highest plaving Elena finished 1st o_o and the 2nd highest finished 2nd and the 3rd highest placing 3rd…o0o0o a lot of Elena rep this weekend.
