Oh btw on another note yeah (as far as dive kicks)
I don’t like it too much, I wish there was a better option but youre kinda stuck with it.
Something that helps for me when I dive kick is just OS DP. Ill make a vid about it or something but its something I use with Hawk to deal with dive kicks. Yeah I probably should at some point…
I mean what she does have going though is that shes solid.
Its weird, she does not really have anything overlly negative going for her its just that in the right meta she sucks. Fortunately for me my Meta consists of a LOT of good matchups for her, which is nice.
I mean usually my game plan is pick her on the open. I feel that out of my tournament ready characters (El, Hawk, Posion) she is the most stable in tournament.
Shes kinda Bison tier where she beats every below her but no one above her tier list wise. Shes an interesting bag.
Yeah there is no rank thread though. Hawk forums had the same problem, if not worse, for four years.
I feel the opposite about my Elena. I feel like my Poison and Rose are in a far better shape than Elena. And for me the thing that gets me the most is when people fall out of your moves or an Ultra trades, which makes my reactions even slower because I start to second guess the character. I get so many trade AA U1’s it’s unreal. But I guess that’s one more thing to work on.
I think if you’re mentality towards Elena was different you’d be better with her than you’re rose or poison. I don’t think you should even go for AA u1. But that’s just me. Elena’s dp trades into ultra anyway and that’s a better trade than u1.
I know I came from a lot of characters where I was forced to play Clock Games, and I was also a fairly strong xT player.
Im not one to play offense. I mean I was a defensive Hawk player (vs Native being heavy read/offense based)
So I think thats why I like Elena so much because I can just play a Lame game. Get some pokes here or there, do a combo, heal up repeat.
I think playing offense with Elena will just get you killed. The nature of Ultra is way too nutty IMO to play any kind of “strong” offensive game with Elena. Again thats just my opinion.
So I just play a passive defensive game with her. I don’t even use Ultra 1 (I only use it in training mode, just so that I can practice using it)
To be honest, I don’t think it’s a good idea either, but I’m trying to train my reactions mostly. But I’ll probably try to focus on Elena more as time goes on, since she’s the second most fun character I play Decapre is the most fun. (Btw you can just cr.hk her wake up maybe even cr.mk). Maybe once I learn all of her tools for different matchups I’ll main her.
I like to play lame as well. But I feel like there are too many characters that wreck Elena off of 1 read to always play lame.
I think thats where my misconception on Combos came from to be honest. Since I never really looked into combos until I came on this thread (in that I just did shit on my own and I knew the Elena community was already very small)
It happened in my Match against K.brad in Top 16 qualifier. I was doing fine, then I guessed wrong. =(
She has the damage and corner carry to keep but outside of that her defense is just a matter of blocking and guessing right. Having no go to reversal w/o meter kinda bones her really hard.
I think however, she is a strong tournament character because her mental
HK lynx wait for Elena to start standing on her own jump forward jMK
Works on
Dudley
Seth (reversal SPD beats it, but not dp)
Doesn’t work on
Decapre
Gen
Oddities:
Dan (only 3 hit HK Lynx works 4 hits results in whiff)
Honda (inconsistent reel during combo post set up fine)
Ibuki (depending on reel and hits your safe jump works)
Makoto (depending on reel and hits your safe jump works)
Elena (works on reversal but she can walk back making it whiff but not forward walk? wtf)
Poison (only 3 hit HK Lynx works 4 hits results in whiff)
1/3 through testing I gave up though. Moral HK Lynx is a let down despite negating DWU it’s set up utility is limited and poor. If it ever becomes more consistent enjoy your 4 frame safe jump.
Also some general advice for those having trouble doing her 1 frame links here’s some advice.
(Specifically for the the cr.lk > cr.lp and st.HK > cr.lp)
St.HK: I have no idea why, but st.HK plays a fucking whiff sound on hit as well and it was bothering me for months, but it allows you to time the link really easily (especially if you B-Link). After the sound her foot is about to touch the floor and that’s when you cr.lp.
Cr.lk>cr.lp should play the whiff sound during the startup of cr.lp. If you listen for it you’ll get the timing down incredibly easily.
I usually train my links with her by doing the following:
(Dummy set to crouching+ Auto block+ Refill Super gauge) Also, never repeat the same route more than twice.
; means I alternate combo routes – means ending that combo route
(st.HK starter) –
;cr.lp > cr.MP xx HK Lynx FADC St.HK –
; cr.lp > cr.lp >cr.MP xx EX Mallet smash –
;cr.lp > cr.lp > cr.MP xx MK Spin Scythe FADC –
So far my record is 34 hits (That fucking cr.lp> cr.mp link is the bane of my existence); that way if I do 1 less cr.lp that I should EX Mallet whiffs, but if I do 1 more cr.lp than I should the dummy could potentially reel out. Hopefully If I get at least 50 hits twice a day the links become second nature.
Hopefully that’s helpful, unlike the safejump set up lol
I normally just practice the links but I haven’t been practicing as .much hk Lynx Tail fadc is part of it. I have more trouble being consistent with ex MS but with more practice it shouldn’t be a problem. I look for visual clues instead of audio ones.
Some people use stick which is pretty hard to hit to always hit d instead of a df or db all the time. Also some sticks have a smaller deadzone, which can also cause incorrect inputs.
@InfernoOmni I’d use db lk and take advantage of the fact that lynx has no shortcuts.
