I can see this being a valid tactic. I do not play Elena, I am just interested… But as a Gouken player I use the same tactic to focus absorb fireballs (not always counter hado) and build up U2 Denjin quickly and often even twice per round (!). This is specifically supported by Gouken’s defensive zoning plan in general. In case of Elena and her healing ultra this could actually lead to interesting match strategies…
I really think super is crucial in her game. Not only does it give you the fear of punishing all your opponents stuff it really adds to your game. You can try frame traps like cr.lp, s.hk with a super buffered and if it hits then just let it rip. Can also do this with the overhead. One wrong guess with s.hk leads to cr.lp, MK LT xx super for 481 damage or raw super for like 440 or something. You can also throw out cr.mk’s and react to the CH message and release super. At max range of MK LT you can try to frame trap with the 2 hits and hit confirm into super, but obviously punishable so its character specific on the range and who can punish it. Since she builds meter so well and the super isn’t as range dependant for her frame traps it seems like something I am going to try and focus my game around
Yup, that’s exactly what I do. It takes about 3 or 4 sonic booms or hadoukens by the time they notice what I’m doing, and then they either keep chucking fireballs for me to absorb, or they might start coming in, which is also good for me.
Her super is VERY good but I think the usefulness of her ex moves make it not as viable. I almost never have super with her unless in just steamrolling over people with her ground game. It’s a similar situation to ryus super imo
Sorry i was too broad and posted it too fast lol
what i meant was that the super has a habit of moving to forward and it good in combo dmge but i think the importance of EX MS for the high and low pressure is more important than the damage. I also see it move Elena too forward in start up making her go right under opp, its not like Gouken Super where you can AA punish with it.
It’s definitely a 1 framer. It’s easier than others simply because the rhythm/timing is pretty quick. compare that to doing st.hk, c.lp. Another unplinkable 1 framer where there is a long delay between links.
Elena is starting to look better and better the more tech we find. Her st.hk is amazing. You can try catching crouch techs with it. If it hits, you can link a cr.lp xx M spin scythe. From there you got a lot of options. st.hk, cr.lp xx m spin scythe, fadc, cr.lp, cr.mp m spin scythe. st.hk, cr.lp x m spin scythe xx super. st.hk, cr.lp xx m spin scythe EX Red focus, cr.mp xx L rhino horn, ex scratch wheel (4 bars).
Or a CH st.hk leads to cr.mp, or raw super as stated above. pretty good.
I practice all her one frame links. Although I’m bout to give up on the forward medium one. Seems pointless going for that move at a range where cr.lp will link is just asking to get stuffed.
So how do you cope with cr.LP, cr.LP, cr.MP xx MK.SS and xx ex.LT whiffing on certain characters?
Do you just do the bnb into hk.DP instead or leave out one of the cr.LPs? I’m kinda wondering how easy and viable it is to hit-confirm from a 2-hit string, especially when it contains a 1-frame link.
