The arts have never been meritocracies. Likewise, people don’t get positions due to their talent but because of potential observer expectancy bias. The adaptation of blind auditions for orchestra positions, for example, directly leads to something like a 30% increase in female players earning a spot in symphonies and musicians with lesser instruments but superior playing skill.
One of my favorite examples of superior skill not winning out in the arts is the classic Heavy Rain tech demo actress interview. Before she launched into her audition she said she normally doesn’t get call backs because “she’s not what they’re looking for” and then goes on to absolutely kill it in the audition. After the actress leaves the room the audition committee says she was the best actress they had seen but that she wouldn’t be getting the part because she’s a little too short.

Gonna respond to this in reverse order.
Acting in and of itself has no choice to be discriminatory due to role requirements. It’s nothing against the person, and it’s understood. In the end, once the role requirements have been filled, the best person for the job should still be taken.
But this is not what is being talked about. It’s about being passed over on roles that DO NOT have such role requirements but for the same reason. We’re talking about being passed over 'cause optics, not 'cause role. This is a problem, and it’s a problem regardless of which race the person affected is.
As for the orchestra thing, I fail to see why, if more women are better at their job, they shouldn’t be the ones hired for it. I’d rather hear better music than an evened out gender list. Of course, if anyone comes in with shitty tools, no matter the talent of playing, you’re going to still sound like shit, and appear less talented than they are due to this. Don’t really see your point here.

These things been happening in the film industry since forever. I find it funny that it’s oh so awful now and voices that were quiet bout these issues before have decided to speak up.

I never admitted to anything like that. I even said I don’t care about hitting ratios or the actors as long as the role is done well.
It’s obviously shitty when roles are decided in a discriminatory way. Again I’m commenting on the blatant hypocrisy being shown by many that never spoke up bout these issues in the past showing up as the most stalwart defenders now.
That doesn’t sit well with me. The bias is clear as day for what is and isn’t ok.
