Easy to say shit like this when your representation across multiple mediums wasn’t replaced for decades.

Loved to have heard slippery slope logic applied to Gods of Egypt or various other whitewashing that have take place.

But somehow straight white male rep is hurting. Only lie I’ve seen pushed harder is China saying CoVid is contained and a non issue.

Your problem is lumping people into groups first, people second. You don’t care about the people, just so long as the ratios are AT LEAST comparable. The joys of equity over equality.

So care to give examples of how straight white male representation been diminished over the last 4 years?

Sorry if there are minorities breaking barriers

I mean we still see it on tv where people have to present whiter to appeal to the masses i.e. nebraska despite shows like fresh prince, fresh off the boat, mindy project, blackish, showing minority lead shows can have broad appeal

But old white people still run hollywood. They still told jackie chan fuck you after rush hour 3 and millions of box office.

If they want an urban lead they will go with channing tatum over chadwick boseman 100%

Whole lotta woosh in this thread… :man_facepalming:

I actually don’t care about the ratios or who the actors are as long as it’s done well.

I think it’s hypocritical as fuck that after all these years of whitewashing and racial bias, now peeps bring up slippery slope bullshit, pendulum blah and fear mongering that white male rep is in danger.

You have movies like Gods of Egypt get green lit and all of sudden it’s the end of the world the moment others drop a pebble into the ocean of white representation in film industry? Figures.

Here’s the issue - you’re still all in on this representation shit. Fuck representation. Talent and merit. That’s all that should matter.

This whole thing going on in the above example? This isn’t about representation. It’s about individuals getting discriminated against due to the color of their skin. Outside of specific role requirements, no one should be discriminated against. Yet the optics are considered bad today to not have enough of x, regardless of talent or merit.

But you are conflating the issue with representation as though anyone should give a fuck. What is more important? That you have a certain number of x in everything, or that people are intentionally discriminated against due to nothing more than optics because they lack melanin?

LOL cry moar

White execs told Bruno Mars that they should find some blonde cookie cutter whiteboy to sing his songs

Bruno said fuck that and did his thing

They would have casting calls for black/asian/latino/middle eastern leads and still pick a white guy for the role

When the game is so skiewed and still is targeted to a white demo. When you pop off and say “unfair to white”

Because they want to cast minorities in the roles

I mean the meg was written for chinese people funded by chinese and the chinese chose white male leads for all the important roles

Mass media is geared to accept white male leads as the default and studio heads will only want that

If harry potter was indian would shit have changed

I do not see the discrimination against white actors when hollywood is casting minorities to play minorities. How is that discrimination when white male leads will still be the norm.

I mean look at fx. Gave little dickie a show. It comes off like white guy trying to do atlanta. Because the guys in atlanta are absolutely popping

This is where you fail. I never said “unfair to white”. My whole point is “unfair to person”.

Don’t matter their melanin, only that they’ve been discriminated against.

So writing parts for minority and casting a minority for that role is discriminating to a white guy?

Nah not

That ain’t what it’s about and you know it.

I am with you on the position that talent and merit is the best place to operate from.

At the same time, if there are content creators of different cultural backgrounds making stories, most often they are told from that perspective.

And that’s fine. That’s not what this is about.

This isn’t about playwrights being more and more non-white writing non-white roles and thus there’s “no room for the white man”. This is about roles with no such prerequisite where people are being told no 'cause melanin levels aren’t right. It’s fucked up when this is applied to non-whites, it’s fucked up when this is applied to whites.

Countering perceived racism with more of it but in the other direction does nothing to fix the issue and only makes it worse.

I honestly don’t believe many of us want that kind of outcome.

Again, I don’t see many talking points saying that we need quotas because X. Most of the points are examples of how it’s been done for so long and NOW we gotta worry about not having a merit-based employment of actors and associated talent in making motion pictures.

And yet, as observed above, it IS what’s happening.

Keep in mind that THAT particular industry I feel very little sympathy for. They reap what they sowed.

I fear it’s a lot more prolific than just acting gigs in Hollywood though, and it’s only going to get worse.

But see the thing is white people will still go out for those roles

Black Panther did well because of marvel china hated it

If white actors try our and are told they are not black enough for a role well that sucks

But that means the studio wanted minority leads

A lot of times jamie foxx would read for white roles and would get told no because not white

“Chris” may become the only ticket into Hollywood.

I have never seen a black girl with a picture of a dead deer in her online dating profile.
Where’s the representation for that subgroup?

Worse in what way. As guys like jordan peele and justin lin get more clout in hollywood shit will be changing.

I do not see it as the loss of white jobs because people will still want white people on their shows

Look to you it looks like a slippery slope but really there is no big dynamic shift. Just we are seeing roles get spread out to more than just the same white and black actors

How many roles does leo, ryan gosling, ryan reynolds need and you know those guys do not audition

Well you see Dab00g hates the term “I don’t see color” because that is all he sees. He doesn’t see people. Just colors.
