I used to remember back in the day Wiz would threaten to ban people over talk of Ad Blockers on SRK.

True

Oh honey. It’s almost like you haven’t been paying attention and missed all those leaks that Snowden and other whistle blowers made that showed you’re already being spied on by your own government.

If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at yourself for having a Chinese app for teenagers on your phone leeching your data on top of what the US intelligence community is already grabbing with the help of your telecom.

What national security though? Again, I didn’t read anything about the app grabbing anything that wasn’t on the device it was on. If a Chinese app disguised as a social media platform is that much of a threat to our national security, then our nation isn’t that secure to begin with and our tech and intelligence sectors have failed on a massive scale.

If Google is leeching as much data as we know they are, why hasn’t the government banned their apps? It couldn’t be because our government is getting our data from them could it?

I’ve de-googled my phone quite a lot. Still have a bit of a ways to go, but it’s not as hard to do as you’d think.

I’ve been following the development of this smartphone for this exact fucking reason :joy:

It’s almost like you’re TRYING to be that idiot who doesn’t read the posts they respond to. LOL at you thinking disagreement with the government banning voluntary apps is simultaneously defending spyware.

Because Google is not selling the data to the Chinese. Google just using the shit for generating Ad revenue. The Chinese on the other hand has a history of cyber espionage, the biggest in the world.

Look in a mirror lately?

Google is still selling the data and some of it lands with our government. How is it worse for a foreign government with no jurisdiction over you to have your data than your government that could legit use it to fuck you over to have it?

I’ll spell it out because your smoothbrain requires that, I DONT THINK ITS GOOD FOR ANY GOVERNMENT TO HAVE YOUR DATA WITHIUT AUTHORIZATION. That’s for you and Pertho because I know somehow you guys think I’m defending the ccp even after I’ve shit on them extensively in this very thread.

Something like that would be nice. Outside of Google maps, there’s an open source alternative to everything Google offers thats just about as good and doesn’t have all the tracking crap.

Ironically enough, it’s a lot more feasible to make your phone more privacy friendly on Android because of how much granular control you have over everything. But it would still be nice to have something like that where you don’t have to lock down Google Play Services (GPS!) and lose functionality in the process.

No, I think what ever Kool-aid you been sipping on is making you thick skulked stubborn fool who don’t get the weight of what’s happening. You are right on one thing, no Government should have access to your personal data. The Issue is with the US Government we still have a modecrum of rights, Chinese has no qualms about using the Data as a weapon against the country.

:joy: Did you just defend the US government potentially killing access to an app that doesn’t come preloaded on your phone and that no one’s making you download by saying “we still have a modicum of rights?”

Do you realize how many social media apps will readily hand over your data to the government just for the asking, and also that Chinese apps like WeChat are still available and have been available for years even though it’s well known to be used by the CCP for spying on people?

I understand what’s happening but again, if a Chinese social media app is a danger to our national security, then our nation is not very secure at all and we should be worried. I have a feeling that when they say “national” security they really mean “corporate” security though.

Good job assuming I’m okay with our own government doing it.

But considering other nations will do shit do defend their cyber security, it absolutely makes no sense that the USA shouldn’t.

You still havent made an argument as to why the US should let an invasive software that is knowingly spying in citizens to give back the info to a foreign nation (a nation responsible for a multitude if cyber attacks on this one).

All you’ve said is “muh freedom” and “well the NSA does so we should let countries in adversarial positions do it too”. Which makes no fucking sense.

I’m still fuzzy on that. People say “they hacked out election” but if all they really did was place ads and stir up shit, that isn’t hacking, it’s just throwing a wrench into the system. I never heard anything about them hacking voting machines or anything like that. If they did, then yeah that’s bad, but I also think companies who sell ads shouldn’t be allowed to place political ads from foreign sources or linked to foreign money.
