i’m sure ted bundy would have loved your rehabilitation process.

actually i’m surprised people don’t understand how net worth works. taxing billionaires is futile. you know why? because their net worth is in assets like stocks and houses and other things. you only get taxed when you sell those things. at no point would someone whose rich sell off all their assets at once, so that the government could tax it. they use various pro accountants to minimize taxable events, and only sell assets once in a blue moon. that’s why you could raise the tax rate to 100% and it wouldn’t make any difference. majority of bezos wealth is in amazon stock. unless you’re going to force him to sell all his stock at once, you’re not able to tax it. even if you did, by the very act of selling all that stock, it will cause the price/value of the stock to plummet due to the sudden seloff, which lowers tax revenue. of course, forcing billionaires to sell off their assets gives government communist like power.

you know who you can tax? people whose earning mainly come from their salaries. and that’s who is going to end up paying for bernie sanders hare brained schemes.

If you can’t discern that some mental conditions can be helped with drugs, then tough shit.
Americans always bring him up in this thread, but it’s kind of a shitty argument because he hasn’t done anything since. :man_shrugging:

Land of the :free: logic I guess
Especially when he’s brought up in economic discussions

…which is why several of the progressive candidates have floated wealth taxes for those with assets in the capital class. You know, effectively property taxes on non-real estate.

what guarantees he stays on those drugs once he gets out?

not sure what you mean by this, ted bundy’s dead.(just noticed you were talking about fisje) i do think medication can help some people, but i’m skeptical that it can help everyone and that’s quite a risk to take imo.

Or obama ends up as the vp so…

please see my response to optimus. continuing with my argument, consider this. combined net worth of all billionaires in usa is 9 trillion or so. 2019 budget was 3 trillion roughly. even if you increased the tax rate of billionaires to 100% by seizing all their wealth, you’d only be able to pay the budget for 3 years. then what? its still not enough. and bernie wants to add onto the budget with free college for all and free health care and all that.

the only way to make health care affordable for all is to invest in technology that will disrupt the medical status quo. i go to the doctor and he touches my pee pee and the bill is like a few thousand dollars pre insurance. wtf? i touch my pee pee for free all the time. find some way to use 3d scanners to scan your balls for cancer. find some way to do your own biometric scanning so you dont have to pay hundreds of dollars for a blood lab test. theranos, if they hadn’t tried to insist on blood tests from a pin prick of blood on a super tiny device which is scientifically unsound and why it was a scam company, had a great premise. have some devices at walmart, pay 30$ for someone to draw your blood, and then run the tests there on a moderately sized machine. etc etc

If that happened, and Joe dies in office, he can only hold the office for one term correct?

Why go outside if you can get hit by a car that morning?
“What if” scenarios are dumb. It’s been 5 years and he clearly doesn’t want to go crazy again.
You and fish need to let it go.

i will for now, but these topics interest me.

I understand. It’s tough to imagine a country having a rehabilitation system that actually provides rehabilitation.

are you familiar with the AMT? thats the alternative minimum tax. decades ago that was the first attempt to tax rich people who weren’t paying any taxes because actual rich people dont rely on a salary. it made the tax code more complex and made the IRS more bloated. i’m not familiar with how these new proposed wealth taxes would work, but it sounds like another harebrained AMT2 that won’t work. the only way you can tax billionaires is by forcing them to sell off their assets, which is communism. who you can tax are people who have a salary.

i’m not saying universal health care is bad. i think its a great idea. but like i’m saying to odin, i think the way to achieve that is through innovation in tech, not by taxing people to death. all these other european countries are benefitting off the innovation of USA big pharma and cutting edge research once the drugs that are invented go generic.

Fair point, but it could take up to two decades for a drug to go generic. Pharma’s going to make sure that bottom line is on lock as long as possible.

AMT is still income tax. The wealth tax really is a lot like property tax- they don’t care what you earned, they’ll send a bill out based on what you’re appraised at.

Which kind of makes sense when you’re looking at like Warren Buffet levels of wealth.

I happen to work in pharma research. There’s really no such thing as “USA” big pharma- all the big players are massive international conglomerates who run their studies in multiple countries simultaneously. That’s not a knock on the USA- that’s just how the industry works.

There’s a lot of little and medium US pharma- but they’re basically just running pilot and phase 1 studies so that they can shop their stuff to the big international players.

And tech will never solve universal healthcare. Tech industry wants to make money. Tech industry has a moral obligation to its share holders to make all the money it can. That doesn’t make it “evil” or anything- but it does force it to behave in a way that’s the exact opposite of universal healthcare.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer: Gorsuch and Kavanaugh Will ‘Pay the Price’ if They Vote to Roll Back Abortion Rights

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) declared Wednesday from a podium outside of the Supreme Court that conservative Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh would “pay the price” if they rule how everyone presumes they will in high-profile abortion cases.

The speech happened on a day when the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in June Medical Services L.L.C. v. Russo . It is the first major abortion case to come before the court since President Donald Trump appointed Gorsuch and Kavanaugh to the high court.

“I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price,” Schumer said to a crowd of pro-choice advocates affiliated with and supportive of the Center for Reproductive Rights. “You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”

Conservatives were livid. They wondered if reporters would ask every Senate Democrat if they agreed with Schumer “threatening Supreme Court Justices” (which they would ask of Senate Republicans if Trump went after liberal Supreme Court justices or other members of the judiciary).

What the…

That was a thinly-veiled threat. Good luck trying to downplay that.

Clowns on both sides. This is why this “Orange Man Bad” bullshit campaign won’t be enough to take Trump down. The Dems aren’t any better.

You shouldn’t be that surprised, most democrats don’t like Bernie’s progressive ideas. Only Warren liked some of his ideas.

They are all shit

Why are they doing the mudslinging still is beyond me. The dnc should have been running on uniform policy focussing on establishing a better obamacare and bringing back the good things trump cut.

As far as feds go. We are uniformly voting blue. As far as most vets go they are also voting blue.

ok, i’ve had some time to think about the issue you put forth about how your rehabilitation system in your country works. my problem is that a guy on a bus kills someone and only gets 8 years for it. he’s in the hospital rehabilitated with medication and now they are monitoring him. that’s fucking great for him. but what about the intrinsic value of the life of the person he killed. and that persons family. and all the people who had to watch that shit go down on the bus who now have p.t.s.d… the guy has schizophrenia so he should do the full amount of time for his crime in a mental hospital not prison. but 8 years and he’s free is ridiculous. that’s probably why americans bring this up.
