I played TESL all weekend. Stuck at rank 1 on the ladder, doubt I’ll hit legend before the end of the season. I knocked out a few of the Epics I needed running Arena. Deck building is a much slower process in TESL for sure. Needing 3 of’s, some legendary cards being 3 of, 50 card decks and the lack of a core set of cards (neutral in TESL is nothing like it is in HS), it means you have to be really specialized when creating a deck. They need to find a way to make deck construction a bit easier, or feel less grindy.
For me it actually does feel less grindy. The thing is in Hearthstone you usually knock out your needed commons and rares in days, or maybe 1-2 weeks if you’re just starting out. Then you’ll be able to save up for epics in months. Once you have the core commons, uncommons and epics you’re facing a loooooong grind for staples legendaries and it can be months between getting new stuff to play with.
In ESL it probably does take longer to build decks but since getting cards is faster it feels like there’s more progression. I mean, I spent around 1200 dust to max out the power of my token deck which put me in a really low dust count but now I have enough dust to make legendaries again.
Building one deck wasn’t a huge chore because i had a deck idea when I started playing, so working towards that deck was fine. I made a fully fleshed out version of it. However, now that I want to dabble in other decks, I feel like I’m really grinding it out. I’m rank 1 so I can’t really grind wins in ladder, and casual is like 50/50.
Currently I have one maxed out Spellsword Token deck, and all the rest of my decks are basically Yellow token cards with whatever else I could scrounge together for the remaining color. I can see what you mean because outside of tokens every deck seems like it needs a buttload of legendaries to function.
Well, today is the end of the season and I doubt I’m going to climb above rank 1. That’s fine, I’ll still get the max number of the monthly reward card, a card I doubt I’ll ever need 3 copies of…
If you log on to ESL this weekend, you 2 free packs.
Thanks for the info. I’ll probably finish at rank 5-6. Haven’t played outside of questing for 3 days. Playing fighting games. No ragrets.
As I continue to play this game I find myself stuffing more and more prophecy cards into my decks. This will probably be what I do until I have enough resources to make a control deck that doesn’t break runes until it has guaranteed the win.
I played a lot of Solo Arena this weekend, got to rank 1 in solo arena and got a golden Adoring Fan. It would be better if you could dust Adoring Fan, I have no use for the cards but I do have use for the 1600 dust you would get from breaking down a gold one and a regular one…
As time goes on, ESL top decks become filled with more and more legendary cards…
Yeah, the decks I’m playing these days are pretty legendary heavy…Mage Control, Money Scout, Token Spellsword…literally every card I need at this point is Epic or Legendary. I’ve had some really good runs at Arena and have knocked off a large chunk of cards in my collection.
I was lucky enough to get General Tullius from a 3-win card bonus so I have my token deck pretty much complete. I’m not really going for anything else at the moment.
I’m still having a ton of fun with the game. Only have three things on my wish-list:
- A mobile client
- Tone down the power of the coin
- Tone down the power of prophecy
Yeah, the coin is too strong for sure. They need to drop it to 2 charges I think. 3 is too strong.
I might drop ESL. I still like the game but all my friends quit. Unfortunate, but that’s how it goes.
I’m totally committed to it…I play it like 90% of the time and HS 10%…
