Its really easy to do on fuerte, but harder on ryu, or maybe its just me
Something I’ve noticed about el fuerte thats actually really helped me with street fighter in general is the fact he has no super reversal like “shoryuken” move that both hits and uses invincible frames. I know he has ex guac but that doesn’t hit standing opponents. also not counting ultra 2 just because well its an ultra =3
But this basic fact has forced me to become a better player.
There have been so many games where I’ve lost because I get too scared when I’m knocked down and ex guac away just to get punished with a sweep or an other knockdown/ combo and end up back where I started or even as worse as loosing the round.
This has essentially obligated me to just stay calm and block/ tech grabs on wake up most of the time. Which in general has done wonders to my defense. I’ve always known that one of the best things you want to do when your knocked down is just block and tech but I’ve always been to stubborn to practice it enough. But with the tougher opponents I keep facing its kinda forced my hand.
With that said I’m no longer mashing the option select throw either. I’m finally either timing it within block strings or late teching with it on wake up and the results have helped me immensely.
I think a good Defense is EXTREMELY important and helpful in this game . Especially when it comes to El Fuerte with his low hp and subpar normals.
To sum it all up I think its best to make sure all your basics and fundamentals are on point, as they are the backbone on which you play on. If one of them is weak it can be exploited to your downfall.
I agree, when put in the corner good defense is all you have we can only wait for an opening since our other options just lead to more damage ):
surprised they didn’t give fuerte a enchilada move or renamed his charge kick the burrito bomb(would of made a little more sense and sides who doesn’t love burrito’s?)
Imo yes (you dont need turbo though)…i have used it more often because : *Its not hard to do on every character *free corner mixup after lk reset (run back stop, splash, fajita, tortilla again, throw) *if you whiff the reset, they are still in the corner so there is no real loss of mix up options *its a reset i just got a camera…i just have to get to a computer. so i will try to post up a vid soon on this stuff along with the list of characters.
alright cool thanks for the help
Yep, there’s no downside to it unless he’s spamming SRK or something and in that case you just block it and punish him badly.
I get it everytime now, and I usually just walk forward and throw them, run back and splash or ultra them if they get accustomed to my walk forward throw and try to throw early instead of tech late.
The way to and back from it was stressful. I’ve never gotten somewhere on my own. I wound up lost in some neighborhood and my dad had to help me get there and gave me directions to get back home (and I’m no good with directions, I need pictures dammit).
Anyway, the tournament started with teams. I didn’t fight in my team until we got to finals and I wanted to go first. Unfortunately, I got KO’d by a headbutt spamming Honda, but I got 7$ from it. Then there was the singles tournament. Because I wasn’t familiar with the way matches were set up, I fought under false pretenses, believing my opponent and I were going to have warm up matches because I figured each match was one at a time like Team Battles. I got into losers and beat this girl’s Juri with no problems. I then fought a Rufus and that didn’t go so well. For the rest of the time, I fought in casuals.
I really wish I could’ve gotten advice, but I only GAVE advice to the Rufus (and Dudley too) player on what he can do on wakeup against Fuerte. Unfortunately, save for one person, I’m the only person who plays El Fuerte (which doesn’t surprise me) and apparently the only Ibuki player.
Like El Toro, I think I partially cracked under pressure since I’m not fully used to fighting offline (it has nothing to do with lag; I can’t do things properly when I have to “apply” them outside of theory). I still need to work on both, especially against Rufus. I felt like once I was in a corner, even with EX Dash, there was no hope.
Overall, I have a long, frustrating, but ultimately fun journey ahead of me. Aside from combos and such, I need to stop being so scared when the pressure’s on.
I’ve been working on my Master Cookbook thread, check it out.
I also asked a mod to un-sticky all of the current stickies (with the exception of general ELF) and to sticky my thread.
Thats pretty much what I am in the middle of right now.
Working on elf’s wake up defense and corner defense so when things like that happen I keep my cool and have a plan.
somebody(a t.hawk user)replied after i lost to this guys bison with el fuerte by saying why did you pick him? and i just said well cause i picked him duh and he then replied saying well el fuerte’s not that good of a character that would be like me picking dan"
wow…(this happened in a online endless lobby)
@Crimson: Its sad when some people completely lose the desire for having fun and play PURELY to win (nothing wrong with wanting to win, but a balance is important). Tell that guy that there is nothing wrong in choosing Dan, Fuerte or anyone, as long as you enjoy the character(s) and get satisfaction from learning them. But usually the best way to put some sense into this type of people is to just own them hard and make them respect your character by force so make sure you own him next time!
@Kuma & El Toro: thanks guys for sharing your experiences.
Kumo, we’re terrible tourney players then again you’ve seen our mirrors XD. But it really sucks when people say hes not a serious character but i guess its because no one really plays fuerte so when you meet someone it looks like guessing.
But fuerte is unique in that he’s probably the only character you have so much fun with while so staying serious, everyone is playing footsies and trying to bait, meanwhile fuertes are taunting at unsafe distances in serious matches.
Anyways ill add more details about my tournament. I first played a really good viper but we’ve been rivals for awhile so it was an exciting match, i won the first couple rounds and i was about to win my last one after a focus attack, all i had to do was ultra but no my hands said “fuck that, you’re gonna jump instead”. I lost the round then he raped me. Afterwards i fought some rufus and his dive kicks were too much i eventually started to rally but it was too late and AGAIN i choked after a focus attack ( im really bad xd). He won and i was eliminated but we were having so much fun we didnt tell the officials the match was over and continued to play casuals. NOW in casuals i was destroying this guy his dive kicks meant nothing to me. We were saying “where was this skill in the tourny match” so it seems i excel in casuals but suck at tournaments, go figure
I think with me, the stress from finding my way there along with having nothing to eat screwed me up quite a bit. Not having enough circulation may have screwed me up. Some frozen yogurt later seemed to help to a degree, but I kept forgetting to turtle.
I don’t think we suck at tournaments. I think we’re freaking out because we know there are stakes involved and know that losing will have its consequences. We need to get that out of our heads and relieve the stress during the fights. You could try lip syncing a song. That always helps me when I’m doing homework.
I also figure that having El Fuerte Azteca available in the future at these tournaments might help. I always get that passion when I have it.
Yea you’re right looking back i had some internal issues at the time which definitely interfered with my game. Next time though im aiming for the top.
I didn’t say this earlier, but who cares that people say he’s not a serious character. I told you the other night that “Haters gonna hate.”
I just say the we should just do things our own way; however we feel comfortable.
On a separate note, I’m thinking about going under the pseudonym, MexicanNinja; I play both El Fuerte and Ibuki, and it coincidentally keeps the Japanese and Mexican aspects of my other name.
Eating a light but balanced and healthy meal before a tournament is for sure a very important part of maintaining clarity of mind to perform better, just like any sport.
I only attended 2 local tourneys, but I got a few tips I can share regarding pressure. Its all about the mindset, some people are much better than others in clearing their thoughts when needed to bring out their best. Try to find something that distracts your thinking a bit before the tourney, so you are less tense when you start. One specific strategy I like to use is to actually stop playing the game for a day before the tourney instead of practicing all night to prepare. This surprisingly helps in making my mind more fresh as I start playing in the tourney, I did the same with university where I do my exam preparation in advance so that I rest my mind the day before the exam and not study.
Also, when you start your first tournament match, its easy to get very excited and go on an all-out attack, thinking that this would finish it fast. What many seem to forget is that you will be fighting a player you never fought before most likely (with some exceptions of course like in El Toro’s case), so its important to be a bit more catious and not apply your standard play style initially, and instead probe the opponent to see how he reacts and study him as much as possible (and Fuerte is good at that since he has a lot of baiting options). Think of it again like an exam, you don’t start answering the questions immediately once you start the exam, but you first skim through all the pages, and get the gist of the level of difficulty of the exam and the type of questions it has.
There are many ways that work differently for different people, so try to see which relaxation methods fit you and practice applying them
When people complain that he’s not a serious question i usually just respond " and you still lost XD", so no more kumaoso?
No, that name will still exist. I’ll just be using MexicanNinja at tournaments since it will be more of a “serious” setting. I already have a unique name so I won’t get rid of that just yet. That and everyone typically shortens my alias to Kuma anyway and people who know what that means may find it to be contrasting to my appearance.
