El Fuerte General Discussion Thread

Ehh, just make it have less hitstun than the close s.HP.

Hey guys. I’ve been lurking for a while. First I wanna say thanks for the advice on alot of stuff for El Fuerte.

Second. I don’t see a lot of mention for the Quesadilla Bomb, I’m currently using a pad, and holding Light kick while using some :r: + :mk: shenanigans, and , when the opponent whiffs badly, I immediately Fierce and follow up immediately with a Quesadilla bomb.

Same with a read fireball, jump off the wall, mid-air Fierce, s.fierce, Quesadilla. I find it quite useful as I’m having a very hard time landing the RSF (Which I usually just say to hell with and just Fierce xx :qcf::p: :hk: to floor them.

Last but not least, I denied a Ken player his Ultra with a early Tostada Press. Good Times.

If you have a super you can cancel quesadilla bomb into it. But if it’s level 3 charge (or maybe even 2) it will knockdown and the super won’t combo unless you’re headed toward the corner.

Thumbs up on resorting to s.hp xx slide instead of failed RSF. Knockdowns are so very important for fuerte. RSF has got to be almost impossible on a pad, I wouldn’t bother trying.

Ah… I knew my brain wasn’t messing with me… I hold the charge all the time so I’m used to a Quesadilla Bomb knocking down, but I did notice the Super can land is you are on the corner. I’ll remember that for quick bombs though.

the s.hp xx slide seems to be a great time to spam a few hab dashes to just cut them short and fish out dp’s.

also. BIG question. I’m a sucker for Ryu’s doing a Light dp followed by another. HOW can I punish this?? should I stick to being patient and just s/c lp for when I block them?

If it whiffs you have time to walk up and do a close s.hp into whatever. If it’s blocked, I’m not sure. Maybe a far s.mp or c.mk but better to just block.

You can fierce punch it blocked or whiffed. You just have to be faster. You can even ultra it on block. Fierce loops should ensue whenever you block an uppercut.

Hey guys, what would you say is the best combo to do after a focus attack or a missed shoryuken? Apart from the loop combo.

close s.RH to leg throw (ex or RH). timing’s a bit tight against a missed shoryuken. HP xx run slide is another option

Oh you mean the knee strike to anti air? I do that most of the time anyways =D
I just need to learn how to do more than 2 loops on the loop combo…

let me know if this question would be better suited for the general SFIV boards –

i really want tips or a guide on when to use FA. i very rarely use it, but i think i’m obviously missing opportunities. sometimes i’ll try to FA a jump in, but they always seem to be able to jab me before my FA hits them (am i just holding it too long… i’ve tried releasing it quickly).

basically, i’m totally clueless about when/how to use FA to turn a fight around.

His FA has bomb ass range. I use it all the time just to get my opponent antsy. After a propeller throw, dash forward level 3 FA hits about as perfectly meaty as you’re gonna get it too. This is where I first incorporated it into my game. Judge your opponent’s playstyle and the first propeller you land, dash forward and charge your FA. Their options are backdash and reversal ultra/dp/something else gross. Once I land it once on a lot of players, I just use it as a scare tactic. They know a level 3 meaty FA is coming, and it’s scary. Cancel it into a dash instead when you know they’re gonna try to escape, and punish/mixup accordingly.

Certain characters I try not to ever use FA against like E. Honda. Headbutt through it just hurts too much, there’s rarely a good time to charge a focus attack against honda IMO. I’ll use it against blanka from outside sweep range if I feel a slide coming on.

I’ll try and think of when else I use it. Get a feel for it’s range and it’s a pretty fucking awesome focus attack, but don’t get too reliant or comfortable throwing it out a lot. You can’t afford the damage when someone sees it coming…

I think at first when you’re picking it up, you should just use it as often as you can to get a feel for it. If they’re hitting you with jabs to break you out of it, you are too close. On a footsie game, I’d stay at about sweep distance. At this range a heavy, sometimes medium normal of theirs will have enough recovery time for you to hit em after you absorb an attack. I think using FA is about spacing and anticipation…

I find FADC’ing occasionally is a good way to see how someone will react to an actual FA if you were to hit with it. With Fuerte it’s particularly scary since we all know what happens after we crumple stun someone. Just dedicate a series of matches to abusing the feature and you’ll see for yourself. It’s easier to figure out if you go to the extreme with it and dial it back to something that fits your style.

this is exactly the sort of thing i’m looking for. thanks! would love to hear more. are there any moves from other characters where the default answer should be FA?

Like the other guy said, if you’re getting jabbed you’re too close, and it shouldn’t really be your anti-air except on rare occasions when they jump from an awkwardly far angle. Even then, pretty risky given his vitality. Just outside sweep range (basically max range) is a good place to toy with it. Totally depends on your opponent’s playstyle and character, really.

So it seems I need to eat my own foot - Fuerte actually does have the fastest backdash at 19 frames! Next is vega rose cammy chun li @ 22, but I think my confusion was in that they backdash further. Everyone has the same invulnerable frames right? He also has the second fastest dash next to chun li!

here I thought abel’s forward dash was best

anyone notice any changes to fuerte since the patch?

yea from 1~8, exceptions are Fuerte with 1~7 and Cammy with 1~6

and I haven’t noticed any changes, although I must admit I have been playing more Blanka lately.

But wasn’t it like they wouldn’t change anything, especially Arcade Characters?
or have you noticed something ?

they removed fei’s infinite and gief’s PPP lariat doesn’t hit crouching small characters as much.

what’s with all the good fuertes in the UK coming out of the woodworks on XBL all of a sudden? haha. shout outs to kitade85 and Dawgtanian
