Perfect Legend is Tom Brady’s sparring partner and was a heavy favorite to win it all with his Kung Lao. In his first to three against LI Joe, PL beat Joe’s main Ermac pretty hard so Joe took up Cyrax, his alt. Lost again. Joe then counter picks Kung Lao for a mirror and wins the next two games and final game goes down to the third round. Joe does a string with low hits and PL keeps blocking high and eats it. Joe repeats it three times in a row and it works everytime, then something else and a low again to win. Commentators laughed how PL’s defense got exposed hard.
But wait, there’s more!
Later Joe vs Justin and Justin has it easily. At one point Justin freezes in a block high stance and match gets called off for a new stick. Perfect Legend goes apeshit claiming it was the stick all along and wanting the brackets rolled back. Everyone says if there was a stick problem before you should have said something earlier so it could be proven and PL just loses his shit. Best part of this? The reason this tournament was done was the manufacturer of the mk stick, PDP, hosted it was to showcase their product. Which died in semifinals.
But wait friends! There is even more!
In the end to determine placing on ties for trophies and cash, people did tiebreakers. I think 7/8 settled by rock paper scissors, but most did a single game. PL comes up and swaps out the PDP stick for a pad, which was against the rules. PDP’s big cash event and the only real rule was everyone uses our product. Perfect Legend refuses and has a hissyfit, so he gets DQ’d to 6th or 5th or something.

Funny you mention that. MarkMan was there and was a big fan favourite, he made top 16. Later on he had a chance to play for Top 8, which is the money cutoff was. MarkMan has a sick Smoke, who is a sluggish normals, good mixup, crazy high combo damage character and MM had the most consistent meterless 55% damage combo there actually, mad impressive. However in the make it or break it for top 8, he choked hard and dropped every combo, and actually so did his opponent too, so there were tons of game ending chances for both guys. One of the most exciting matches there though. End result was MarkMan placing 9th.
Mark was interviewed on stream later, he called himself chokeman with good humor about it. He did talk about PDP a bit though (this was before the PL drama) and said he would love to see another company get in here and make a big splash. Nobody is sure if this is a one-off or the start of an annual, but he hoped it was a sign of things to come as he hinted that if one company made a big prize tournament like this and it caught on, could take all fighting games and blow up big. He even hinted that MadCatz could rival PDP this way in the future if it sticks.
Heh. Sticks.
So yeah, was much love all around and prizes were sick. 8 was $500 and Justin took the top of $10,000 for first. Truthfully justin’s only competition was floe, not many could take a full game from him but a couple did. PL hasn’t played him in a tournament that I know of, same goes for mk god Tom Brady. However Brady was a guy with access to the game well before release and I think he’s a tester for it or something, he’s the man when it comes to mk, but he was declined entry due to his advantages.
So yeah, Justin Wong, trifecta champ of sf, marvel and mk. Sick. Still, I’d like to see Brady vs Wong in a major, very good chance that’ll be winners finals at evo.
Yeah, but even Wong uses pad in mk. It’s just designed better than on stick here. But rules are rules and you all knew that coming in if you wanted the big bucks PDP put up, and everyone had the same handicap.
Perfect Legend was still exposed even if it was a busted stick though.
As some of you know Shiro is going to night school starting Wednesday and won’t be able to bring his setups. He’s assured me that I can borrow his equipment but I don’t want to do that. I’d rather not be responisble for shiro’s equipment in the event that it dies while we’re using it. With that being said we are going to need some other people to commit to bringing equipment. Nothing good comes without a little sweat equity so if you want to continue having games at BPs ya gotta contribute yer setups. If you can bring setup then post up here.
There was not enough people enrolled for the class I needed to take from may until august… Ugh… now i need to wait to the next simester or do online school bull shit… man wtf…

sorry i actually don’t even own MK9. as far as my interest goes for that game, im not too crazy about it. sure its fun but i cant see myself getting that into the game. i will need some serious sparring partners to help me level up.
