Okay, so the plans for the March event are progressing rather fast. However I can see now that the project might be a little much for me and I’d like to know if anyone would be interested in helping out. There are a few different areas before the event happens that I need help with but first I’d like to let out the complete info for the event.
First of all the date I’ve chosen for the date is March 23rd (Weekend before Final Round). The purposed guest for the event is Chris G, Joker, Fanatiq, Quandizzle. The Name of the event will be Triumph or Die 3: Gods vs Titans. The “Hype” for the event involves a ft15 between Bee vs Fanatiq (a run back for NEC), Joker vs Chris G (a run back for Canada Cup), James Jones vs Quandizzle.
So, that is what have planned, Fanatiq is already confirmed and Chris will be getting back to me by Friday. Jones is also confirmed but lets get back to my point here. I need help in some areas in order to ensure this event is successful.
Venue, I’m not rich, I want to get a place as cheap as humanly possible. Over Klocked’s venue is really cheap, while they charge $15.00 for venue, they have the setups and internet that is ideal for the event. The CBGC at Gmac would cost $10.00 and they told me on Monday they aren’t sure if they can do cash prizes since the group themselves are not allowed to do that (which equates to no fucking tournament). They will be getting back to me when they can…
Any suggestions that aren’t too expensive please let me know… I have spoken to GDLK about their interest in sponsoring the event and they said yes they are interested but I told him I’d get back to him with what I had in mind (in all honesty I have nothing in mind). I’d like help on these fields when talking to a sponsor because while I have gotten sponsors past events I did not have the same pull as I may have now. Having sponsored players with large followings may help us get large bonus pots or w/e.
I have never taken a bunniess course and I am sure I may fall flat on my face in terms of what to ask for. I want to also contact Gamer Grub, they sponsor Over Klocked’s League tournaments which I am associated with so who knows. Talking to Oodle Noodle wouldn’t be a bad idea since they too sponsor the League events and have taken part in Bar Craft (they host a stream from their venue and invite players to come and watch). Any and all help is appreciated, I want this to be successful I want this event to be next level NO I HAVENT MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT SF4 I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START QQ.
It sounds like you will need a venue more spacious than Overklocked due to the number of entrants for an event this size. Maybe you should try asking a bar?
The issue with a bar is when it becomes a 18+ event we lose players like Gilchris, Phoenix Down and others whose names I unfortunately do not remember. There is also the issue of internet,the availability of the venue (we’d need it for the full weekend)… Not sure if a bar is idea for it.
Try a coffee shop or other sizable mom-and-pop cafe?
Maybe you could try the U of A…
Parking has always been an issue at the U of A and coffee shops are not ideal for what I have in mind. We’ve done that before and Soukawaii didn’t work out to well because they were hoping we’d go ham buying bubble tea .
What is your metric for success?
A much larger than average turn from many locals giving a over all growth within the community. Players training and showing up to WNF in the attempt to get ready for the event. Having the event put the city on the map and high lighting our players outside of our Bee and showing the world that Edmonton is truly a city of champions…
whose going out tonight? is it worth making the trek down to OK?
