Will those who are friends of tourney staff still get infinite time to show up for their matches?
Will people who aren’t friends of tourney staff still be DQed because nobody knows them?
Will shits be allowed during the tournament, or will there be porta-potties on-site at the event? I’d like to “shit and play” so I don’t get DQed again.
Will tourney staff still pick fights with longtime scene organizers who are trying to help?
I’m just saying. Those were the best things about this event last year. I wish I were trolling.

You seriously need to shut the fuck up. It has nothing to do with who is friends with anyone else. people get dq’d when they call your name and wait 5-10 mins sometimes more and you dont show just like any other tourny.
I was only at ECT last year for a couple of hours, but in that time period, I witnessed much of what Phil is talking about.
People can say what they want about Phil, but he’s been around long enough to be trusted when he says “X” or “Y” about a tournament. This doesn’t have to turn nasty, though. From what I recall, there was a lot of chatter in the post-ECT1 thread about certain… mistakes that people thought were made in running the tournament. Hopefully, SJC learned from running the first one, and these kinks can be worked out.
For the record, Phil’s word counts more, to me at least, than random 2010 nobody…
My original id got banned for NDA in the SSF4 thread so im about as much of a nobody as you are. I was at ECT1 and i know for a fact they did their best. I personally remember phil singing the blues because he got DQ’d because he would rather tape nestor losing than go play his own matches… I got DQ’d as well so its not like i got any special treatment. If you didnt show up when your name was called it was your own fault. I understand where you’re comming from but in all fairness this event will be much better coordinated and staffed to handle the crowd.
In the order of your questions:
- That’s not true. I DQ’d someone who was sleeping in our room because he didn’t come for his match.
- If you don’t show for your match, then oh well. I allowed people to call their friends and tell them that their match is up. If they didn’t show, then they got DQ’d. I don’t see how that’s unfair. We’ll more than likely be using Tonamento which will automatically send texts to phones to alert players of their matches. Also, we’ll only be running SSFIV by itself so everyone -should- be there when it’s going on.
- You should’ve told me that you had to go to the bathroom, just as EVERYONE ELSE DID. I did not single you out, you just didn’t show for your match. If you had told me that you had to take a shit, then I would’ve skipped you and told you that your match was available when you returned, JUST LIKE I DID FOR OTHER PEOPLE.
- That was my grave mistake, just as I had told Robin after it was over. We hung out at Evo for a while and worked it out.
Hope that answered everything.

Look guys, mistakes were made last year, we know this. We tried for something big and didn’t deliver 100%. Nothing is perfect, especially the first time around. This year will fix those issues and we’ll do our best to deliver an excellent show. We already have a lot of people helping us and supporting us in this, so we’re already on the right track.
yo bro id love to but i dont think i got the money to or the people to share a room with. i probably got 1 or 2 but i still make shit with my job lol.
- I’m not talking about someone who came with you. I’m talking about the so-called “Top Players” who weren’t around for their matches but got a free pass, simply because you were friends with them (aka NYC players who you knew). While other people who traveled further (Mass, Philly, CT, elsewhere) were not given the same courtesy. It’s called Favortism and it’s sad it still exists. I put up with that shit when I go to EVO, but when I go to some local East Coast event? Holy shit.
- The above already answers this. Favortism.
- I kept this quiet for a year, but fine, your funeral.
I waited HOURS for my SF4 match; this is not a lie or an exaggeration. (In truth, ST was not a problem as I was being called frequently for that game, it was all SF4). I was called multiple times to stations, to walk up and see other people playing, and nobody from the tourney staff there to tell me where to go or what to do. After actually being called to a station and having nobody there, I got bored and finally I started to record a match of Nestor playing SF4…and then got called again to a totally different station. When I wanted to finish recording the match, you decided to publicly act like a dick and tell me to stop on the microphone because “nobody cared.” Well, you know, except that the fucking video went on Youtube and PROMOTED YOUR TOURNAMENT. You are officially stupid.
So after Nestor’s match ended, I asked who I was playing…I STILL was not sent to a match. Finally I waited so long I had to shit, so after another 15 minutes of waiting to make sure that nobody was calling me again, I went up to the room. Came back down literally 15 minutes later and find I’m DQed from both SF4 AND ST. Then I’m told “we called you multiple times and you weren’t here!” More like “we’re running behind and we started DQing people we don’t know because we can!” - It doesn’t matter if you apologize or not. When people who have a long-standing record for running good events offer their help, TAKE IT. Don’t fucking flake out and act like you’re too good for help; I was super grateful for the help I got when I ran ECC even though I never asked for it and I will remember those people who took the time out to do so forever.
In short, it’s great that you’re trying to make up for your mistakes. I won’t be there and neither will anyone else who got screwed over last year. Shit, most of us have gotten so tired of the fucking NYC favortism that permeates the Northeast now, we don’t even play SF anymore. But it won’t matter, because you’re going to have an endless amount of newcomers with the release of Super SF4, so just be happy for that. You’re just lucky that i’m not as much of a dick as I used to be, or else 60 million people would be seeing your face right now and being told “never attend this man’s tournaments, here are the locations and dates.” Next time you fuck someone over, do your damn research.
quit being a nobody have. also agreed with what you just said.
last year MD/VA had three cars leave early on sunday because of how bad it was ran, and some of us were still in the tournament. hopefully things will be better this year. personally i will not be re attending. nothing against the tourney directors, its just that sf4 is some ass and there is no cvs2. although the whole yelling at robin was pretty fucked up.
Oh darn guys. DSP isn’t coming. So we don’t get to listen to him complain for two days about about bullshit things are.
Also. If you leave the room and nobody there has you phone number or any way to get in contact with you. You’re getting DQ’ed. I’m willing to bet that when other players were called the reason they were waited on was because someone got in contact with them to let them know that they were up. I don’t know about you. But if I gotta shit that bad and I’m waiting to be called…I’m gonna tell someone that I’m going to take a shit instead of just hoping and praying.
why no cvs2?? who the fuck came up with this “trend”?
I wont “pre-hate” on ssf4 yet but I’d still wanna play/watch cvs2.
Well I am confident that the tournament directors are more then aware about the issues and it will most likely run better.
I mean… 3s is there!
I’m going to be running SSF4 brackets along with a few others. I can guarantee there wont be any problems with the way things are being run this year.
I guess I should say a few words in behalf of all this nonsense. A lot of what happened last year could of been blamed on me. John and I signed on this tournament together. I was little to no help to john. Besides carrying tvs all over the place, setting up, and paying for half of it, I was useless. I was very focused on playing more then I was the actual tournament. The whole evo spot thing and all that stuff blah blah. Huge mistake on MY part. This left John alone to the wolves, stressed and all. Let me formally apologize to anyone who didn’t enjoy the event last year. I am sorry. DSP you and I never really had any beef, at least I don’t think? If you dont come then that is totally fine but this situation is a year old. Can we let it rest please? For the sake of this already shitty divided community. I know I would like to have you there so we can bury the hatchet, play some games, and have a good time. Yes not everything was a smooth road last year and you may have felt the blunt end of it but it wasn’t a disaster either. When you ask people about last year it is a mixed bag of pros and cons. John and I are aware of the cons and we are going all out to fix them. Our goal is nothing more then to create a strong, on going event in the north east. Along side all the other great events, NEC, WB, SJ, FR, and the og ECC events.
A lot of people think I am some new school player who just came about because I pick a ‘broken’ character in some dumb street fighter game. Thats not the case. I have been playing forever and have been trying to play competitively since 2k1 when my chinatown fair days started. Ive seen all the drama this community has to offer from then till now. Dont get me wrong, some drama is good for the community but drama like this has to go. If anyone can help us at all pave the way for all the up-and-coming people, either playing at high lvl, or running events, please let us know. Once again, my apologies to all. Especially DSP. See you all there.
Noone stepped up to run CvS2 at WB or NEC, and I sat down and played CvS2 for two hours for casuals too.
Show up to something to run it already.
I really wish I didn’t HAVE to be somewhere for CvS2 to run.
Lazy fucks.
LOL
You know you love running tournaments
I just want to quote this so people dont miss it since it was the last post on the page.
Well I’m not one to run tournaments so I can’t do anything about it.
I just know everytime you guys wanted it to be there (Pat, Snake, Jeremy, you) the past few tournaments, you guys didn’t show up.
