I agree on Jagi’s first hyper signature…I cleared many of bases with that move.
Jagi is AWESOME.
I think he’s better than Ken, on Toki’s level.
And Thouzer is easily the worst out of all the Nanto characters.
I’ve got his chart about 80% done, just missing some Musous, and unless I’m using his Imperial Shield thing wrong, he is no good.
His original gravity ball musou is great, but he takes a long time to gain meter, takes long to get into Nanto mode, and his Nanto mode isn’t that great. You can get hit out of ground pound, you have to constantly taunt to get people together, and he can get hit in between the ground pound/ sphere hand wave slash.
And he’s pretty meter dependent.
I’m not feeling him, I think he’s on the same level as Toki
I haven’t used Raoh yet, but here is my tier chart, from highest to lowest, non DLC.
Rei > Shin >>> Jagi >> Mamiya > Toki = Thouzer = Ken
Smh. What is it about your play style that causes you to misjudge these chars so much? lmao. Anyways I been on MvC3 like a fiend but fuck it. Imma do Thouzer next when I get off from work.
That said Thouzer isn’t a normal Nanto char at all. If you use him like that yeah you will think he sucks. He is more like a Hokuto/Nanto mix.
I have to disagree on Thouzer being the worst…he is basically the “Raoh” of Nanto.
I would emphasize more, but I’m PS3less ATM.
I judge how good characters are by crowd control power (and ease of crowd control. Like Rei and Shin, when they get into Nanto mode, it’s ridiculously easy to crowd control, whereas Toki needs to do his chain into the last 2 + 2 fireballs, so it’s harder. Ken’s crowd control is about average as well, but Toki’s is better than Ken’s. Mamiya is easy to CC and a beast with her level 3 R1, etc etc)
Thouzer needs to constantly taunt to bring crowds together, or use the gravity ball musou. His regular attack string is too weak to fully kill crowds, and he’s only solid at killing crowds in Nanto mode, and even in that, he can get knocked around
Dealing with the mini bosses (Shin, Rei, Mamiya, Jagi are really good at this)
Dealing with bosses (Shin, Rei, Jagi, Ken are good at this. Jagi is slow at killing bosses, but his Weak+Hard grab combo is great, it even grabs people out of specials)
I didn’t max out Thouzer’s stats though, so there could be a really good chance that he is extremely strong.
I don’t have any how his Level 3 musous yet, and I read they were strong as well.
But overall, his run speed is slow, attack chains are slow, his Nanto mode is lacking compared to Shin/Rei.
Hokuto characters have solid ground attack chains, and good variation, but as a Nanto character, it’s just 1 chain.
His Nanto mode engagement hit has a small hitbox compared to Shin and Rei’s
His double fireball is ok. His level 3, the diving ground pound, isn’t great
In other words, as a Nanto character, he isn’t good.
As a Hokuto character, he is missing solid chain attack strings to be good.
Crowd control, honestly among the worst, and really needs musou stock (especially compared to Shin/Rei/Mamiya)
Vs mini-bosses, he’s good, because he’s a Nanto character.
Vs bosses, he’s ok at best.
lol wut? Dude.
Royal Quake and he has a stomp loop.
There I just decimated your argument. rofl. But seriously I’ll post about him later. Honestly he would be the best character i nthe game but Raoh has Kokugoh (his horse).
He doesn’t need musou at all, but with musou he’s beast. His selection of Sigs are amazing. He has two of the best level 1’s in the game. Imperial Mercy is amazing as well. He attacks slower then Rei and shin this is true but here is why Thouzer is good. He is a real char even before hitting Nanto mode unlike Shin and especially Rei. Rei is nothing without Nanto mode although in Nanto mode Rei is retarded. Run speed wise he is average. Faster then Ken and that’s what matters lol. His Nanto mode is all about the ground pound loop. That’s all. You don’t combo with him. You just attack relentlessly. Can you combo? Sure. He’s a Nanto user so he can rock people with the best of em, but it’s not necessary. And getting Nanto mode is easy with him.
He has RETARDED royal quake loops. Ugh. I’m on dat Marvel but later tonight expect a Thouzer analysis.
If you can, make a short video of him or something, killing bosses and crowd control.
I played him for like 3 hours straight this afternoon, and the more I play him, the more it seems like he isn’t good.
I’ve got his Meridian chart filled up 90+% now, so I’m just going to max out his stats soon.
Use R1 more and use Charge T cancels more(since his is the only one that hits a wide, forward area). His crowd control, meter gain, and damage are all NUTS dude.
Great thing about R1 is that the jump version has really fast startup, recovers in the air so you can even do another air attack, and whatever enemies his R1 attacks hit, instead of knocking them away it just sweeps them off their feet so they stay clustered for you to ANNIHILATE them.
What I like to do is jump above a crowd, R1, j.T, charge T(or even just ground R1 again) -> whatever.
As far as his Musou’s go, they are mostly all retarded strong, Polar Star Crossfist is SO useful, SO powerful, and SO cheap. Dude gains meter like a mofo too cause his ground string kicks have such wide range. Where as like say Ken or Rei can only hit like 1 or 2 enemies per normal attack, Souther is hitting like 4-5 of them at once. Imperial Mercy is amazing because it’s an unblockable projectile attack with MASSIVE area range. Oh and his lvl3 ultimate musou is fucking NUTS, huuuuuuuuuuge range on that
Damn, fell asleep. Ok, fine gotta do this from memory since it’s late and I don’t wanna turn the game on. Here we go. I’ll edit tomorrow after work if needed. The sigs for now are gonna be copy pasted from the koei wiki so a few will have direct japanese translations for now. I will edit those when I get home from work tomorrow.
Edit: I edited the sig names of the ones I can remember. Got them all right I think except Thunderbolt which I left alone, but honestly i think the English version is just Lightening bolt which is the same thing damn thing.
Thouzer - Emperor of Nanto
Pros
- Sweeping normal combo covers good range around his body
- Great selection of sigs overall. Two of the best level 1’s in the game
- Nanto mode makes him a boss killer and gives great crowd control capabilities with loops and long combos
- Royal Quake is an extremely powerful special move with great utility and crowd control and gives him good options.
- Has a stomp loop with jump strong
- One of the best level 1 hyper sigs
- Grabs are good for crowd control
- Good guard breaks
Cons
- Timely strike to enter Nanto mode has a terrible hitbox. Thouzer tends to miss this attack more so then Rei and Shin
- Level 3 hyper sig needs a long open path to be truly effective vs bosses.
- Strong combo ender has slow start-up
Movelist Analysis
Charge Attack Level 1
Good guard break with decent frontal range. This is Thouzer’s main guard break that he uses before starting his offense. Solid move.
Charge Attack Level 2
Thouzer charges up and then releases two small energy blasts. It’s ok. Nothing too crazy going on here. No real reason to use it though unless you just want a little extra long range crowd control.
Charge Attack Level 3
This is Thouzer’s charge attack designed for crowd control. It’s one massive ground pound as Thouzer releases energy into the floor. Solid move, but you have to fully charge to get it which diminishes it’s usefulness.
Jumping Attack
Thouzer does a backflip and releases a powerful crescent energy wave. It’s a flash kick and can guard break in it’s first few frames. When done as an IA attack it recovers ion the air with no ground recovery frames. JCing into this is good for staging an offense vs bosses when combined with blockstrings and Royal Quake.
Jumping Strong Attack
Thouzer pulls off his best Dictator impression(and it’s a damned good one)and slams himself into the ground feet first at high speed. This can be cancelled into his strong attack by holding the button which can then be released and JC into another stomp for a loop. He is the only Nanto char with such a powerful/useful loop outside of Nanto mode.
Main Combo
Thouzer does a series of kicks transitioning into 4 energy swipe attacks that make 2 crosses, ending with a spin kick that releases a small energy wave that knocks back. Thouzer is slower on the draw compared to Shin and Rei, but his combo offers good crowd control by itself and he has good range on it as well making it one of the better normal combos in the game. Just space it well to avoid getting hit before you net the first hit.
Strong Combo Ender
Thouzer does a bazooka knee as he launches himself forward. Again it’s slower then Shin and Rei’s, but makes up for it with power and the ability to easily hit multiple foes. It’s an ok combo ender.
Nanto Mode Air Combo
Thouzer does a series of kicks and ends with a downward spin kick spiking his opponent to the floor. What is there to say? It’s a Nanto combo. It’s flashy and damaging.
Nanto Mode Air Strong Attack
Thouzer flies at his opponent foot first then launches a powerful energy ball downward. Good combo ender and since the ball goes all the way to the ground it’s good for crowd control too.
Nanto Mode Strong Attack
Thouzer does a repeated ground pound and ends with a suped up royal quake that does good damage, has more range then royal quake, and knocks back. A bit slow on the draw but the crowd control is insane. This is JCable and can be cancelled directly into Royal Quake. An amazing move.
Throw
Thouzer picks does a violent stomp on his enemies body releasing enrgy into the ground as he does so that does AoE damage. Good for crowd control.
Grab Attack
Thouzer stomps on the enemy repeatedly, stunning enemies around him and doing damage. Great crowd control.
Strong Throw
Thouzer kicks his enemy into the sky and then body slams them into the floor. Does good damage and knocks down the surrounding enemies. Very good crowd control on this.
Special Move - Royal Quake
Thouzer releases a blast of radial energy that juggles enemies and sets them up for combos. In the air it does the same thing, but it knocks enemies back a bit as well. This move can be Jced and can be canceled into from anything. Since it can be JCed it’s extremely safe and has virtually no risk. It beats just about anything that isn’t a sig or hyper sig and hits all around Thouzer’s body with full 360 degree coverage. Due to it’s nature as a cancelable move it can loop easily. This move gives Thouzer unparalleled crowd control.
Signature Move Analysis
Kyokusei Jyujiken (Polar Star Cross Fist) - Thouzer stuns his foes with an energy shockwave, deals a series of punches, before slicing them horizontally with an energy slash from his fingers. He finishes the cross with an overhead stomp. Power rating of 1 and costs one bar. Amazing crowd control here and the cost is a joke. Most consider this to be the best level 1 sig in the game. The black hole he creates sucks people in which is incredible for destroying groups.
Nanto Sh?zan Sh? (Nanto Hovering Slash) - Thouzer spirals himself into the air before he crashes back down to the ground, emitting an aura that stuns his foes away. As he laughs, his victims explode around him. Another awesome level 1. Costs 1 bar with a power rating of 2. I prefer this one over cross fist due to it’s increased power.
Tensh? Gunsei Kyaku (Heavenly Star Kick) - Thouzer rushes forward to uplift anyone in front of him off the ground. Whilst airborne, he slices them apart with a overhead kick. 1 bar with a power rating of 2. Solid sig for air combos.
Seitei no Jihi (Imperial Mercy) - Thouzer laughs as he spins a spear and mercilessly throws it forward, impaling any within its path. The spear is additionally racked with a destructive shockwave to increase its range. 2 bars. Power rating of 3, great range, good crowd control and unblockable. One of the best level 2’s in the game.
Nanto K?zan Sh? (Nanto Spirit Blade) - Thouzer empowers one of his hands, lifting it overhead for a violet aura. He hops into the air and spins, slicing the ground below in one motion. This is a powered up version of hovering slash. This simply has more range and is unblockable. Both have a power rating of 2 though so it’s up to you to decide if an extra bar is worth more range and being able to get past guard. I prefer Imperial Mercy to this if I have to choose, but this sig is still a good choice.
Raitei (Thunderbolt) - After shouting that he doesn’t need love, lightning surrounds the area around him and sends foes flying. It cannot be blocked and creates abnormal effects to surviving foes. Puts any enemy that gets hit with this into shock and puts Souther into Nanto mode. This is just a cool way to get in some damage and hit nanto mode with no effort. 2 bars with a power rating of 2, but the damage is negligible since usually only one bolt will hit. If you have an enemy in the corner and several bolts hit however, the damage is very large. This sig is for it’s effect only and it’s a damn good one.
H?ou Kot? Kaiten (Immortal Phoenix) - Thouzer emits a yell and surrounds himself in a violent tinted aura. It boasts an extremely sturdy defense, making it difficult to damage him for a time. This move heals a good chunk of HP and gives Thouzer super armor that only be beaten by heavy attacks/sigs/grabs. 3 bars, but the healing is pretty damn nice. Thouzer can afford to use this since he builds meter easily.
Tensh? J?ji H? (Flying Cross of the Phoenix) - Thouzer hovers into the air, exploding the area with his battle aura. As his enemies fly in various directions, Thouzer stands upright in the air, his body forming a cross. His all purpose level 3. Can be used in air combos as well. Huge coverage, range and damage. An awesome sig. One of the best level 3’s. Probably only Ken’s Heavenly Destruction is better.
Skills To Equip
You can go several ways here. Thouzer has great sigs so impact is valuable just to give them a bigger boosts. He is a Nanto character so you can go with Stun to make it easier to put people into shock i.e greater probability that the Nanto mode prompt will come up so you can enter Nanto mode and beast. Also skills to increase damage while in shock and while in the air are good too to buff his overall damage output. Concentration is also good because it will let him build meter faster for his amazing sigs. Not that he needs help in that department, but for a balanced build or a build focused on sig usage it’s invaluable.
Advanced Gameplay/Tips
He’s really fun and really broken. You just have to know how to use him, but once you do he wreaks havok for free. It’s all about Royal Quake canceling or R1 canceling if you want to give it a more generic name since alot of chars can R1 cancel. Royal Quake can be jump canceled at anytime making it hella safe and super spammable. It can also be done in the air and when done in the air it allows Thouzer to instantly change his direction letting him do some really wicked air cross-ups to bosses and land behind them giving him a free juggle/combo or a meaty guard break set-up. A strong offensive RQ loop is RQ then JC RQ, then weak attack and RQ before it even comes out. When you land you can rinse repeat or combo. He can also use this to maneuver himself out of danger while still maintaining an offense and not lose any momentum in his assault. He even has an air stomp loop outside of Nanto mode which gives him a great way to destroy crowds without Nanto mode. As a Nanto character he has access to Nanto mode which basically turns him into Super Thouzer. He gains incredible crowd controlling moves, increased comboability and buffed damage. His nanto ground pound is amazing crowd control and can be looped by JCing in the middle of it before he does the last attack. Also he is a boss killer. As a Nanto warrior a simple BnB combo like ground combo, jump cancel, air combo, strong air combo finish can decimate a bosses life bar with no meter while in Nanto mode. The other great advantage about Nanto mode is that it makes Nanto chars much less dependent on meter to do huge damage. But with meter Thouzer is even more deadly. His selection of sigs is amazing. Two of his level 1’s give good damage and crowd control. Polar Star Cross Fist is generally regarded as the best level 1 in the game by most people that play the game. 2 of his level 2’s offer even better crowd control, great damage and are unblockable. Flying Cross of the Phoenix is also really good. Awesome damage, range and crowd control and it can be used in the air to end air combos with a very powerful finish.
Different Builds
Soaring Phoenix (Aerial Build)
Skills
Aerial Defense
Concentration
Stun
Signature Moves
Heavenly Star Kick
Nanto Spirit Blade
Immortal Phoenix
Flying Cross of the Phoenix
This one is focused on getting into Nanto mode fast and wreaking havok with powerful air combos as well as using all that meter to blow away large groups or using it to heal and keep on moving with either of his level 3’s. Heavenly Start Kick is just a strong level 1 sig that’s good for air combos. Nanto Spirit Blade fits the theme of Thouzer being the highest level Nanto user since it has huge range, is unblockable and he actually summons a lightening bolt to his hand that he uses as a sword for this attack, which is bad ass. Stun helps him hit Nanto mode faster by increasing the chance of the prompt coming up when he hits someone with his strong combo ender. Aerial Defense buffs his damage in the air, while concentration buffs meter gain. This is a pretty cool build and you can customize it to your liking.
Emperor’s Compassion (Low Level Sig Build)
Skills
Impact
Concentration
Stun/Meditation
Signature Moves
Polar Star Cross Fist/Nanto Hovering Slash
Heavenly Star Kick
Imperial Mercy
Thunderbolt/Nanto Spirit Blade
Build focused on low level sig abuse. Thouzer has really good level 1’s and level 2’s. Polar Star Cross Fist or Nanto Hovering Slash. Choice is yours although I prefer the damage boost in Hovering Slash. Heavenly Star kick is a solid air combo finisher. Imperial Mercy is amazing. Easily one of the best level 2’s i nthe game if not THE best. Thunderbolt is cool since it gives you a way to enter Nanto mode very easily at a low cost. You can go with Spirit Blade over Thunderbolt, but I would porobably only do that if you picked Cross Fist over Hovering Slash. The skills are self explanatory. Meditation and Concentration help with meter gain while Impact buffs sig damage which really helps Hovering Slash and Cross Fist. If you use Stun over mediation then I wouldn’t use Thunderbolt in the sig set-up since Stun will help you achieve Nanto mode with no meter cost.
My Personal Build (Balanced Build)
Skills
Impact
Stun
Aerial Defense
Signature Moves
Nanto Hovering Slash
Imperial Mercy
Thunderbolt
Flying cross of the Phoenix
I really like this build alot. Nanto hovering slash over cross fist due to damage. Imperial Mercy is just broken. Great frontal range and crazy damage and it can’t be blocked. Thunderbolt gives me another way to get into Nanto mode and it can’t be blocked. Cross of the phoenix is just wickedly powerful with amazing range and coverage. Skills are serve a different purpose. Stun lets me hit Nanto mode easy which is what Nanto chars are all about. Impact is a nice skill especially for a char using good level 1’s. The buffed damage makes using level’s a really great use of meter. Aerial Defense is great because when you do a ground pound loop in Nanto mode off his Royal Quake it will juggle the enemies. Aerial defense makes that juggle even more damaging. It will also stack with Flying Cross of the Phoenix and is good for Nanto chars in general thanks to all the air combos. IMO this is one of the best possible builds you could have for Thouzer.
My Final Thoughts
An absolute monstrosity. The Emperor of Nanto is a fitting title for this beast. Great combos, crowd control, guard breaks, sigs, everything. He has some flaws like his slow attack speed on certain moves and hitbox issues on his Nanto Strikes, but overall these flaws are negligible. He is simply an amazing character and he does take some understanding to unlock his full potential, but once you are there only Raoh can really claim the number 1 spot over him. But even so Thouzer is a close second and one of the strongest characters in the game. He is also incredibly fun to play with all the loops he can do and all the laughing he does as you decimate your enemies. If you were to compare all Nanto users to one another while in Nanto mode then Rei and Shin would be a tiny bit better because they are slightly more broken in Nanto mode then he is. the real reason he is the better overall char is because his sigs are better and he is also a real character outside of Nanto Mode. Rei and Shin MUST be in Nanto mode to unleash hell. Thouzer doesn’t need it. So as chars you have to look at them as wholes. If you only look at Nanto mode well then no one else i nthe game even matters anymore because Nanto mode > everything. But you can’t look at it like that, because they have to get into Nanto mode first and even then Thouzer has a sig that lets him do that at will. He is by far the best Nanto char simply because he can play however he likes and he is the most versatile while doing the most consistent damage and having good options even in his normal mode.
I’ll try that crazy stuff tomorrow, and re-evaluate.
Ok, I played him again for like 2 hours with the stuff you guys taught me.
I think he is very solid. Above average. I still find Shin + Rei better, but he’s a lot better than I thought before.
Basically I was doing the air Imperial Sphere into stomp things.
His main attack string now is just mixing up as many hits as you want, then go into Sphere, then attack again
Playing this time around, I barely went into Nanto mode, I only went on purpose vs the mini-bosses and bosses. Against regular crowds, it wasn’t really needed.
If I was to re-evaluate him, I think Jagi is better, but Thouzer is better than Mamiya, Toki, and Ken.
Ok, just finished the post about Thouzer. Check that out.
Edit: You can’t just look at Nanto mode for Rei, Shin and Thouzer. Look at the whole package. They are a tiny bit better in Nanto mode but not WAY better while outside of Nanto mode Thouzer is unquestionably a much stronger character then they are.
He can just lame it out all day even in normal mode and his sigs are retarded.
Raoh is hilariously strong, as expected.
I just need to finish Raoh Story Mode, then I’m all done 100%.
Awesome game
I got plat on this game…but I gotta play the 2 warrior modes for 100% in the game.
Everytime I walk into a videogame store I see this game sitting on the self, calling out to me. I was half tempted to finally buy it but then I saw this -
Too bad that video sucks, and this game is awesome.
I don’t even need to watch this shit to know it’s fail.
 okay, but it things like that where the developer has gotten lazy or taken shortcuts that piss me off, partially why I think Itagaki is the don of videogame developers. You want perfection, he’ll give you it but his game will rape in hardness you for it.
I am a totally geek when it comes to FOTNS so I will eventually buy the game, when it becomes cheap enough.
Done with the game woo!
Got everyone almost completely maxed out
I still can’t do Challenge Mode effectively. I didn’t read on Raoh’s infinite until today.
How the heck do people get Challenge mode so quickly?!! The fastest time is under 3 minutes. That’s insane.
