DurhamNC GamefrogTournament June 5,2010"Summer Slugfest"SSFIV/T6/KOFXII/BB/SS/HDR/VF5

While I personally didn’t make it to Lucky’s (fractured my ankle two days before and couldn’t drive), I agree - more staple NC events are good. That said, we’ve been running some small tournaments up at App for years. I don’t know why nobody before me tried to get the word out, especially when we had 200 or so people at our events just a couple of years ago (PC section included). Some bad management decisions on the part of former leadership cost us, and we’re trying to build it back up - once we get back going, we might have four regular events in the state

That is mad cool!!! Let me know when your next event is going down so I come and support. Hope you can make it to Durham June 5 for Summer Slugfest as well!! Nice to meet you and keep me posted on that.

Our events started as PC LAN parties, and grew into other genres as they got larger. Unfortunately, there haven’t been any good competitive PC games lately (BC2 isn’t bad, but we can’t run servers for it because EA sucks), and that scene is dwindling. We used to have a huge Smash Bros. scene as well, but CSIL (which is in charge of all clubs) decided we weren’t allowed to have pot prizes at one particular event since it was “gambling”. We managed to convince them otherwise rather quickly, but not quickly enough to prevent drama. Our past schedule has been to run four LANs a year - two in the fall and two in the spring.

This past year has been rough for the club. The departing leadership scheduled us horrible dates (Labor Day weekend and Halloween) for fall 2009, and our February 2010 event was canceled because of the blizzard. Our last event (in March) overlapped with Lucky’s and HERB (not that we could do anything about it - we have to schedule events around a year in advance) and had the sort of low attendance you would expect from something so unfortunately timed. Even with all the trouble, our core members are still dedicated to organizing the best events we can.

Next year, we’re going to be doing things a little differently, running a larger number of more focused events. We have dates, and are in the process of deciding which events to run when - I’ll post the schedule when it’s finalized.

I’ll try to make it down to Gamefrog on the 5th. It’s a pretty busy week for me though.

Still very excited for this tournament and still attempting to convince one of my friends to come for the BB. I’ll be entering BB and also SSF4.

Get hype because this is in 17 days. I’ve been playing the hell out of SSF4.

Yo I should be around for this!

Good stuff, look to see you there!!!

I don’t know when the tournament will be in July but i’m guessing Continuum Shift will be in there for either July or August? Just trying to figure out your lineup for when that comes out. I’m actually thinking of picking up KOF12 just for the reason to try to learn some more stuff before 13 comes out and because you run it at your tournament.

Are you gonna use tonamaneto? It’s a pretty amazing system.

I am signed up for tournamento but could not get it going, maybe you can help the old man with that. The only thing is that I do not like is the auto-seeding system do to same area guys ending playing each other by chance.

I’ll see what I can do the day of the tournament. I’m usually pretty fast at figuring such things out or i’ll tinker with the system a bit before. Maybe we can figure something about that auto-seeding too since I recall at Lucky’s, at least none of the guys in my crew got matched up though you gotta think like somewhere down the line it is possible the two would have to fight eachother of course.

Good stuff bro.

yeah i think tonamento can seed by location

Ok, that sounds good. I will look into it today at Gamefrog.

Continuum Shift is getting released July 27 in North America (July 1 in Japan) unless it gets pushed back.

Also, looking forward to this even though I suck horribly at SF4.

Shit… it’s PS3. Ain’t that a bitch.

people are usually cool about letting you borrow their stick for a match

I don’t think i’ve seen a tournament in NC that’s on anything but PS3. I ended up buying a stick for it. The HD Remix is 360 though if you play that.

Also hey Ed, i’ve been thinking of getting KOF 12 just to try to get more knowledgeable on KOF and enter the tournaments. I’ll probably enter the one you have in either July or August. Also if you have a lock-in during July i’ll definitely come lol just because with no school everything works out perfect for me.

Oh, alright. Cool.

Cool, if you need to know something specific about KOF XII pm. Glad to help you and good to see that your getting prepaired for KOF XIII, a lot of people are going to get beat up bad thinking that KOF is a easy game like SF IV.

Yes, glad to finally play at a fighting game tourney close to home. So let me get this straight, it’s 6 dollars for registration and another 10 for street fighter 4?
