havnt tested but pretty sure it will miss on like errybody

This is what I figured, just wanted to be sure. The properties of EX straight don’t change, per se, it’s just a matter of how far from the ground they are when you hit them. LP Jet doesn’t hit them upwards far enough, EX MGB and c.HK do. Thanks!

how useful do others find U1 to be useful against shotos because in my experience 99% of the time they go to full screen before throwing a fireball

Edit:Also does anyone have advice against shotos in general because all they do is use fire ball to keep me out andducking them never helps and i cant jump in because i just get Dp’ed

Completely useless.
Ultra 2 is the better choice vs Akuma Ryu and Ken by a long shot.
Oni ultra 1 since you can punish f.HP and air dashes with it
Evil Ryu has terrible teleport. Stun him in one anti air.
I use ultra 1 since free

If the shoto’s you play are any good, they’ll keep you at bay with normals and fireballs. This means you have to play a footsie game; not one of Dudley’s strong points. You’re going to have to study your opponent and see what he likes to do. Try walking in and out of the shoto’s cr.MK range and try to beat his low pokes with cr.MP (if he decides to throw throw them out). You can also walk into his cr.MK range and crouchblock and FA dash forward if he cancels his cr.MK into a fireball. Another reasonable poke to use in this matchup is tw.MP. In short, there is no real answer for Dudley against shoto’s. It all depends on the player you’re facing and his tendencies. Dudley can’t really force the shoto’s into doing what he wants until you get up close. But until then you’ll have to react to whatever happens.

Edit: Also, don’t jump. Unless you want to eat DP FADC Ultra. =dddd And when I say don’t jump, I mean when you don’t have a reasonable guess of what your opponent is going to do. If you’re pretty sure he is going to throw out a poke/fireball that will take a while for him to recover from, please go ahead and jump on in.

okay let’s see here I’m going through all 39 characters of which ultra I use against each individual character.

Ultra 1::

Ryu, E.honda, Akuma, Oni, Juri, Chun li, Dhalsim, Bison, Deejay, Guile, Vega, Zangief, T.hawk.

Ultra 2::

Ken, Ibuki, Makoto, Dudley, Gen, Dan, Sakura, Yun, Abel, C.viper, Cammy, Cody, Guy, Hakan, Evil ryu, Blanka, Rufus, El fuerte, Balrog, Fei long,

The characters where it depends on your “style” on which ultra would be best used against characters.

Seth, Sagat, Adon, zangief, T.hawk, Rose.

Correct me if i’m wrong +D.

Ultra 1: Oni, Honda, Deejay, Gief, T.Hawk, Chun, Juri, Yun, Evil Ryu, El Fuerte, Adon, Vega, Abel, Makoto
Ultra 2: Akuma Dhalsim, Guile, Ken, Ibuki, Dudley, Gen, Dan, Sakura, Yun, Abel, C.Viper, Cammy, Cody, Guy, Hakan, Blanka, Rufus, Balrog, Fei, Seth, Sagat

Abel and Yun Ultra 1 can punish both of their reversals (Up kick / EX Roll) If you’re good at being on offense (lol nobody is ) it’s the better Ultra

All of the Abel’s i fight use Breathless and Dudley’s Ultra 2 can completely beat it so i find it very useful, Yun i dont know though

Ultra 2 Abel? vs Dudley? Why? Whaaaaaaaaat?

Super stocked f.HK c.LK beat ultra 2 even in super
short swing blow beats u2
Ultra 1 beats it after the dash.
meaty c.LK always beats u2
fight better Abels

Ultra 2 vs guile? meh, I dunno about that it’s the only thing Dudley has to make him think twice before throwing boom mid range.

Hello everyone! After playing since the release of vanilla sf4 I have finally decided on Dudley as a main! I have decent basics such as blking, techin etc etc but I never could do links or combos. I wanted to get serious and about two months ago I started using Dudley and I have looked at all the threads, the tutorial by thirtyfour (if u are reading this, ty btw!) including watching a lot of high level play. In addition I just bought a fightstick two days ago and I try to practice literally 4 or 5 hrs a day for the last two or so weeks…so im really trying to up my lvl.

Alas but execution is still my weak point so I was wondering if for some of Dud’s common BnB’s can someone list their finger placement/ timing/ tricks they use. I always attempt to plink and even double tap but im still working on my consistency on those and I feel like my finger placement/technique is hindering me to some extent but I also get the feeling that there is something more…

Ok! So for the first combo it would be:

  1. overhead-s.hkxx exmgb
Here the oh to s.hk really bothers me, should i plink this or double tap? Also,it feels like the wait is crazy long between these two, any tips/tricks? I know some guys can do this on pad…u must have noticed something during training to help! And when canceling from hk, is the timing different when you do it inside of a combo vs a stand-alone? It sure feels that way…

Second combo:
2. c.lp-c.lp-s.hkxx exmgb
Here I have trouble canceling… its so weird because I can do it without the c.lps but as soon as i add them im screwed… tips? Double tap here to get mgb to come out?

It would also be helpful if someone could maybe briefly suggest hand placement when doing these specific combos… I know if I can get these two basic ones down I can build off em…so any help is appreciated!

oh yeah, ultra 1 on abel? why? just to punish ex roll alone?

I don’t have a stick, use a PS3 controller, and i don’t know what plinking or double tapping is but i prefer to do f.hk, c.lp, s.hk. I just find it easier to link the s.hk from the jab then from the overhead. What stick do you have because i want to get one just i’m not sure what to get

The madcatz ssf4 te fightstick- it comes most highly recommended from the different stickies on here and its used by a lot of good tournament players.

I just started to hop back on SSF4. But as far as i can recall :

  1. F.HK , s.HK xx MGB is easier to do if you add a cr.lp in there -> F.HK, cr.lp, s.HK xxMGB.
    f.HK, s.HK is a hard link (f.HK is +4 on hit, s.HK has 4 frames startup).
  2. Go into training mode, i presume your inputs are not correct. I guesstimate that you are pressing buttons too early , before you finish the input motion of the MGB. Other than that it´s a pretty straightforward and easy cancel, you just have to spend some time at training mode.

tips against fei?
his pokes rape me.

poke back.
f.LP s.HK c.MP
f.MK if you’re me

What can Dudley do to punish whiffing medium normals? I’m sort of going by what Ryu can do with his c.HK but Dudley doesn’t seem to have anything in the lines of it.

s.HK c.MP f+MP

Whiffed punished what I think was Gen’s cr. HP with s.HK buffered into EX MGB. Led to low mixup into EX MGB, which led to throw mixup into dizzy. which also led into jump in combo for the Perfect.

s.HK is amazing

you’re right. he doesnt have a rekka or quick sweep.
He does have EX Duck straight (i explained how it can be safe even though its -5) and Rolling thunder.

That’s not really Dudley’s game tho, the whiff punishing moves on recovery.

Dudley punishes moves during active/start up most of the time by staying inside/outside/near footsy range
Training mode > record Dudley > playback
try s.HK buffer HP/EX MGB
c.MP buffer MP MGB
c.LK buffer EX Duck straight

be a character with normals you want to find the spacing for… for example… Sagat
have Dud on playback … s.HK for example and throw out some of sagat pokes at the right ranges.
see what happens

top level Dudley play (lol doesnt exist yet) is about him getting his opponents to use a little pokes as possible
