Dudley Q&A: Let's learn... like Gentlemen!

I appreciate the advice, but “Do Vega’s attack in training mode” doesn’t really work that well considering how the actual spacing of the characters changes the timing of the move and makes it basically useless for the most part, since Vega will do the move early and such if I’m not in the EXACT spot I recorded it. It’d be better just to have someone to the move on me over and over again.

I’ve seen those videos, and I guess I’ll watch them again, but I was kind of hoping for some more personal insight on how to do certain things, but oh well. Thanks again.

eff that list

I was hoping you’d come back here with your results and I add mine in.

wont learn if i just tell you the 100% way to avoid meaty izuma drop/claw dive
come back with ur results pls

Yes. Yes I will learn if you just tell me the 100% way to avoid it.

My results are that when in training mode and retaliating, it’s quite easy considering what I said earlier, how my recorded input isn’t always the same or even smart because of the character placement at times. Vega will throw out the claw early in the air sometimes and all kinds of randomness.

I’ve found that if I just st. mk while he’s still high in the air, it will generally hit early and save me. But I don’t know how reliable that is, considering what I just said, about Vega sometimes doing the move early, etc. I’ve been snuffed by my friend before when trying to counter with standing mk, and maybe it’s because I do it too late, I don’t know.

There’s also the problem if Dudley doesn’t auto correct with it if he crosses me up. The best way for me to test it is to do what I was doing while my friend was here, which was have him continually do the dives however he wants over and over again and me just having to figure out a way to counter them. But we can’t connect online and he lives 5 hours away… -.-

If he’s aiming for you for some reason while your standing or getting up, just EX SSB (crouch and EX SSB if you’re standing.
EX MGB punishes any empty dive.
Ducking towards vega (HK duck)works when he’s coming to you. (he cant move back as well as he can move forward so try to ------

brb gotta go to train station

Funnily the other day I standing HP out a Vega player who was doing his dive, though I guess you need correct timing.

For fun: ex cross counter > ultra 2

they’ll most likely walldive air grab you, if they slash… they’re garbage and don’t know how to use vega… same for when they randomly wall dive…

I’ll keep it in mind.

I just need to force myself to play more. Online is totally unappealing to me but it’s the only resource I have ATM since my vehicle is dead, and the only competition is a few miles away.

Just wish I could make myself become more aggressive as Duds and need to somehow increase my reaction and response time… Need to learn more BnB’s, need to better understand some fundamental stuff… Bah! I want my sparring partner back! XD

I’d train you if I could.
honestly I use like 2 hit confirms and 2 punish combos lol. Learning combos is great but its not important.
Gotta learn how to poke and play footsies (spacing attacks, your reach vs your opponents reach basically)
Maximize every mistake the opponent makes (jump ins start to jet upper > DucK Straight > HP Jet UPper every single jump in. and punish whiffed DPs with F.MK, s.HK links )
Stop comboing into LP MGB from a hit confirm( the worst kind of Dudleys do this )
dont Rely on s.HP so much. People dont just walk into brick walls. Cant expect to win with it alone so learn how to use other moves as pokes (see my tutorial part 2 basics)
Dont wake up with Normal Jet upper it has NO invincibility.

idk wat else to say

Being more aggressive comes from learning the fundamentals. As contradictory as it sounds, you can’t rushdown without being patient and thinking, especially with Dudley. Opponents will flat-out rape you from their footsie range if you do that. Even if you do get in all they need is one lucky guess when they wake up to push you out and start the whole thing over.

I understand this, and really have been improving when it comes to pokes and footsies. I just do get impatient at times and want to do damaging combos quickly, and will try to get in before it’s safe.

Hit confirming LP MGB is just a bad habit I got from playing baddies that don’t block low, lol. I’ve seriously frame trapped people by doing lk, lp mgb, over and over again, and because I found it so funny, I started using it in more serious fights and saw it worked sometimes. It’s just something I need to not use as a normal tactic and make it a random shenanigan. I PROMISE TO FOCUS MORE ON GETTING CONSISTENT AT HIT CONFIRMING STANDING HK!

I don’t wake up jet upper unless I have ex. Honestly EX Jet Upper seems to be the only thing I can ever really do on wakeup, otherwise I’ll get snuffed, so I tend to just block on wakeup.

I think my problem is just too much stuff all floating around in my brain at once. I need to figure out what to focus on working on first, then what to work on after that, etc.

Thanks for the advice guys, I really do appreciate it!

Try EX-CrossCounter for a change. Not only is it a great momentum changer but the possible Ultra2 damage make it a decent threat against jump-in happy players.

I try it ocassionally, but still I’ll get snuffed before the move comes out. Must have something to do with my actual inputs not being timed right or something.

EX CC is not 1 frame like Gouken’s parry. It has 3 frame start up.

Using cross counter frequently is a great way to get yourself killed in this game. It doesn’t even work for what I thought would be it’s best use, anti-ambiguous crossup. If the player knows his stuff, that ambiguous cross-up is coming out meaty or deep., and cross-counter will either whiff or get stuffed.

EX CC is very situational, its best to use near the end of match, with U2 stocked, and knowing that your opponent jumpins in alot on oki and doesn’t make the jumpin attacks meaty/deep. other than that, your better of just blocking.

EX CC into U2 is character specific unless they get smacked into the corner.

EX CC and CC does have it’s uses though. It makes for good distraction if you can get it to work right once or twice, it’ll make them hesitate or act least consider you have the move.

EX CC is an awesome taunt as well. “Can’t touch me”

Nah use it vs people that tend to “safe” jump a lot.
The kind of safe jump that’ll cross up if you reversal or hit you out of a backdash, not the meaty jump in kind.
Do it on reaction.

Also I’m pretty sure EX CC is 2ish frame start up (faster than normal CC pretty sure (normal is 3 frame)

I dont know how to calculate how much damage both do either.
I know the stronger tha attack, the stronger CC is.

It’s a godlike move you gotta get accustomed to using. s.MK can be stuffed easily by some characters (blanka vega, using it in every occasion becomes a habit. (disregard i s.MK too much)

CC damage is [damage of their move]+60.

EX CC is [damage of their move]+50, hit 2 is 50, hit 3 is 50 so [damage of their move]+150.

I used to use EX CC as a taunt because some 3s videos encouraged me too from Kokujin. But I hardly do it if it’s a close match or if I’m in endless because i’m doing stupid shit or i’m near death and they might react to it.

I play with all my voices in JPN. I remember him saying “Go on then” for Regular CC and “Don’t Touch me.” for EX CC.
