Hit him with a meaty attack. if he presses a button on wake-up he will get hit. Also, none of that combos… o_O

It’s not that it combos but if he spams it and I block then I can’t do anything until after he sweeps otherwise I get hit by it.

I try meaties and overheads but then it becomes a 50-50 as to whether I eat a DP or not. I just don’t have any real way of making him feel under pressure once he gets knocked down.

what have you done to try and beat any of it?

Also sweep isnt in range after 3 cr.lk and 2cr.mk.I dont even think the 2nd cr.mk isd in range after 3 cr.lk and one cr.mk.

Oh maaan.

About dealing with c.LK spam, I’ve tried meaty f.MK and f.HK, SSB and throwing as soon as he is up. Throws, SSB and cross counter all get beaten by c.LK and the meaties if they connect without being DPed I’m good but it’s just that I feel that I’m the one on the back foot after achieving a knock down.

learn how to beat crouch techs

If you are connecting off of your meaty setups then this shouldnt be too much of a problem. Every f.HK and f.MK meaty should be capitalized on for max damage every time and I promise you the opponent will eventually stop crouch teching on wakeup so much. But if its too much trouble for you then just avoid the wakeup game until you learn the proper punishes off meatys and some good frame traps to counter the crouch techs. Nothing wrong with just staying right outside the throw range of your opponent on wakeup as long as you have the life lead and the momentum in the match in my book.

f.MK has 2 active frames, how did you make sure it was meaty? Probably have just been eyeballing it, and then you get mad when someone mashes buttons on wake-up because you either did the attack too early or too late and you got hit. Time your wake-up situations and use c.LK which has 4 active frames.

I was using the timing off the swarmer video where it was mentioned after a knock down, f.MK,f.MK,f.MK means the third one is meaty. Although needing to time it like that means that it becomes a bit obvious although I am starting to do f.MK, f.MK and then do nothing as well.

after the c.MK knockdown f.MK x 3 is not a meaty. I would also focus on knockdowns that you would more readily get, like after an EX MGB, Duck > Upper.

indeed.
it’s c.MK > .25 second delay > f.MK x3

I don’t know if I’d trust that. fuck up and the delay timing off, you know what that means… jabjablacabesalacabesajabjabjab

oh well, to each his own.

Is it worth it doing those kinds of setups? Whenever I get a knockdown off of a grab or ex mgb combo I always either go for meaty cr.lk>combo or f.hk>combo. If I suspect a srk I just back off and do a late s.HP for crouch tech or I just get close and do mk. ssb. If my meaty cr. lk gets blocked i go for cr. lp>f. mk>cr. lp>late f.mk or cr.lp>cr.hp. Should I be doing safe jumping occasionally or what sorts of things?

So I woke up one morning and decided, I want to be a gentleman (well, it actually started after a session with Darkyellow a few months back, but I decided to take the leap today).

Anyway, the I hate to asking general questions like these, but there are a million combo threads and a million other duplicate threads on these forums. Finding the essentials is not that easy.

What are Dudley’s bread and butter combos, best cancel-able normals (like st. HK), useful target combos and things of that nature? I appreciate any help and look forward to being part of the league of extraordinary Gentleman.

Check out thirtyfours tutorial on the front page-
bnb combos:
with meter/ultra- cr.lp>cr.lp>s.hk>ex mgb>*[duck upper, duck straight>lp. mgb,duck straight>ultra II, or cr. RH>ultra II]
use the 2 cr.lp to hit confirm until you feel comfortable with just 1 cr.lp for better dmg scale

without meter-I personally like to use cr.lp>s.hk>hp mgb
cr.lp>s.hk>hp jet upper

punish combos:
f.mk>s.hk>ex mgb>*
f.mk>s.mp>s.hk>ex mgb>*
if you’re fancy: cr.hp>s.hk>ex mgb>*

That video is decent enough and has the notation in the description. Covers most of his bnbs, only thing I really see missing is he doesn’t show any combos starting from cr.LK which is important as that hits low and is sweet.

and he doesn’t show that you can end combos with heavy MGB instead of EX if you don’t have the meter

That should get you started.

someone probably already asked it, but what are his safe jumps? (+ setup)
i’m not talking about option select for backdash, but about baiting DPs.

i guess it would be best to know after his common knockdowns (throws, ex MGB into duckling upper)

answers will be much appriciated.

You probably already know but for those who might see these post and not know:

YOU CANNOT SAFE JUMP 3 FRAME DPS

“beating” or “safe jumping” 3 frame DPs is a trick in doing the safe jump so it hits when the invincibility wears off or at a range where the DP won’t hit on the first active frame. Post explaining safe jumps and why you can’t safe jump 3 frame reversals: Safe Jump Question
