Hey guys, im looking and asking here first because I am a Rufus player but I am looking to using Dudley as a backup.
My questions is would a bad matchup for Dudley be a good matchup for Rufus?
More specifically, do you think Dudley would be a good backup character for bad matchups.
I like the playstlye Dudley has to offer!
If I were trying to fight rufus I’d use yang against him, if I was fighting anything else I go yun. I hardly use dudley in serious fights but when I do I win anyway but I want to have that feeling of winning before even starting to have the mental advantage. Umm, usually when I fight rufus I destroy 100% of them with yang since I can pressure him all day non stop and he can’t pressure me at all since I can EX teleport. Also against rufus run with U2 cause up kicks fadc U2 and the fact he can cross up in unusual ways rapes rufus. Lulz rufus gets raped all day by yang, nuff said.
I just main yun/yang since they cover each other pretty well, also I can keep mu’s 6-4 my favor =D.
If I fight ryu i’m using yang
If I fight sagat i’m using dudley
If I fight rose i’m using yun
I just counter pick with those 3 characters usually.

Only reason I can pull off the twins with counterpicks cause I’ve been using them for over 3 years cause of 3rd strike and that’s all I mained in 3s. If you want to CP rufus though then fly with yang

What are rufus’ bad matchups?
The only match up that I think Dudley does better than Rufus would be against Sagat. Maybe the shoto’s as well, but I doubt the difference is particularly noticeable. In general, Dudley has massive amounts of bad match ups so there really isn’t much reason to use him as a secondary.

Just guessing but Dudley probably loses those too.
Dudley is not really a good backup character. If you’re going to invest in another character to get around Rufus’s bad matchups, there are better-rounded characters to work on.
Sorry to Invade the Dudley board but elaborate who would be a more well rounded character.
I find dudleys links fun and refreshing as well as not tooo difficult to pull off. His hit confirm is nice

Don’t listen to these guys, if you really think the combos are not hard then go for it. Dudley plays well against the shotos, Rufus is kind of even right? So if your having trouble against a good shoto player, Dudley may be really useful for you. Dudley is bad against some charge characters tough, Rufus seems to do a bit better against them. A good Dhalsim is a nightmare, but Rufus’s good normals should take care of his limbs. Gief if bad for both, but maybe f.Hp can help you with him. Just check out the “tut” and you’ll be fine.
rufus and dudley share similar bad match ups. if you really wanna cast your net wide, a rufus/guile combo should cover most of the cast.
No offense S A M, but Rufus is better against the shotos than Dudley is. Rufus on the whole is better against the entire cast over Dudley.

If you want some kind of balance for Rufus you should probably pick Guile like Cliffeside said or a char like Sagat. Rufus is kind of on one end of the gameplay spectrum while Guile and Sagat are on the other.

Sagat is also a good alternative for Dudley’s bad matchups imo.

Dudley and Sim/Guile/2012Ryu/or Chun are good duos.
Dudley and any heavy footsie or/and zoning character really.
Not Juri and Gouken tho.
Honda, Blanka, or Vega also compliment Dudley’s weaknesses

I play Dudley/Ryu but I always seem to go back to Dudley mostly. His punishes and wake up mix up game makes this game fun. period.
Rufus’s bad matchups are generally characters with DP or shoto characters. Dudley would be great to beat ryu, sagat, ken, oni, evil ryu and a couple of others to use as back up.
As far as beating Yun / Yang, pick Zangief and mash lariat and spds on blocked dive kick or whiffed dive kicks
