As if nobody from Capcom USA would have told them. I personally am fine with the new guy, but come on. S.Kill or any of the other US “community” reps could have said “Yeah, that’s not going to be popular.” I’m sure they discussed it in length, but it’s obvious someone’s opinion was greater than the opinion of the general public. Someone sat down and said “They’ll get used to it.” instead of “They’ll like it.” Because it’s not hard to find someone that could possibly at least imitate or be within the same league as the original. It was an intentional choice to change him… meaning: someone actually didn’t LIKE the original, enough to decide “It should be different.”
Yes, someone on this planet, someone in Capcom. Maybe a group of people, didn’t feel it was a right voice for Dudley. It was no accident, very odd. I didn’t think there would be anyone alive to feel that way, but there is no other conclusion. This person, has a lot of weight too, cuz I refuse to believe nobody on the test team or in the community didn’t say something. It could mean that simply, the new voice is better in some ways after exposure for some time, but the initial reasoning for even getting to that point started with someone not wanting him to sound like he did in 3s, and that’s wild to me.
I think the new Dudley has just enough personality for me to enjoy him~ if anything it makes me more excited to play SSF4 just to ‘get to know him again’.
Jeez, talk about cry babies. Let go of the VA issue already. People have gotta complain about every little thing they can think of. Dudley’s good, VA is fine, move on.
I hate to label myself as a IRL boxing newb here, but an-over-the-shoulder hook just sort of means a downward hook, right? And a haymaker is just a big friggin’ punch, right? And why the low expectation for Dudley’s Focus Attack? Just curious.
For awhile, I seriously was thinking that Corkscrew Blow was going to get demoted to being a Focus Attack, like the Chunster’s Kikosho animation. Then again, she has that animation for both her FA and her Ultra II now, so who knows.
i’d love to get Francis, but it’s not a possibility this late in the championship. If they had announced the 3s character earlier, this could have been addressed in time. But now… I don’t think it will.
You know, I just, notice a trend in this game with balance and how they want certain characters not to be too strong. Dudley has some really good pokes in 3s, and from the looks of the fight with Sagat he still has a lot of them. His moves have a lot of range and power. He’s got ways to avoid damage, and mixup options. I just have a feeling his Focus attack isn’t something Capcom is going to want to be too offensive. I don’t think it’ll be C.Viper bad. Might be like Dictator’s, if we’re lucky.
This is all Crystal Ball Fighter IV tho so who knows, I just don’t see Capcom JP wanting him to be too high up there, and they make it easy to see that tier lists are not accidental. They know who they want to be commonly chosen and viable and who won’t be.
From the looks of things, it’s really up in the air who is going to be the most viable in this game, to me it doesn’t matter Dudley will always have a home with me if they don’t fix Dictator.
Christ, i’m almost glad i didn’t follow this thread all dayn (yay work!)…We’re STILL talking about the voice. No matter where the discussion goes, someone is bound to bring up Dud’s new voice being inferior to the prior installments. If it bothers you so much think of him as a Younger Dudley. I like it, and thats all that matters to me.
And shame on the person complaining about TB being a charge move. You may hate them, and not want to learn how to play a charge character but ONE move isn’t going to destroy the character for you. You hold down for a second, then as soon as you hit up you also hit the punch button. It’s not complicated, and if anything it’ll benefit you to learn it. Get out of your QCF mindset. I hope Most of Dudley’s other motions won’t be way to complicated for you, since they’re mostly half circles…
Charge moves are good for their instantaneous-ness. As soon as you have your charge, you hit direction+attack and BAM Dudley’s flying gracefully through the air to drop the hammer on his opponents noggin’. And since it knocks down, it adds to his wakeup game.
Pros of the Thunderbolt (imo)
Knockdown on hit helps the wakeup game
Can be used to circumvent predictable fireballers
Its a move from 2I that I missed :bgrin:
Charge moves can be use instantly. This is made even more useful if you can disguise your charge well
Also, the VA doesn’t directly affect your gameplay (ie. he doesn’t push any buttons or play with your stick for you) so its not as important as information about the way Dudley plays. IMO.
I didn’t even think of it as being a good wake up. Hopefully it will work well, and make up for the unreliable-ness that is EX SBK. Don’t worry chun, i’m not abandoning you entirely…
Also i bolded the last line for emphasis. If you plan ahead and keep that charge going (like while you’re airbourn), you can really surprise your opponent with some different combos.
I should clarify, I meant wakeup game as in harassing your opponent when they are getting up after being knocked down from the Thunderbolt. But using it as a wakeup move is viable but risky if they did not leave themselves open because it only hits on the way down. Maybe there can be possible mindgames by pulling a Rocket Uppercut when they are expecting a Thunderbolt? Or maybe not.
Ya know, I think this might have been mentioned before in this massive thread but the Thunderbolt may (unsure atm) be able to cross up the opponent a la Air Stampede! Cross up stomp shenanigans were some of my favorite things to do with Alex. In 2i, Dudley would come down near, middle and far depending on the strength of the button IIRC so crossup thunderbolt should be feasible no? Unfortunately I am away from 2i so I can’t test to see if it worked in that game (it never occurred to me to try it til now ).
