Dude? Where's my Dudes? : The Male Character Thread

So im not alone.

What do you guys think Big Band’s playstyle is going to be?

Admittedly my knowledge of Vampire Savior characters is limited (all I know is I love Hsien Ko to death
lolpun) but isn’t he British? He’s wearing the union jack, our flag has the jack in the corner but has the southern cross dominating most of the empty space to the right. Plus he just looks like one of those british punk rockers.

With what we’ve seen of Skullgirls so far, that would be like trying to predict the lottery.

What I can guess is what playstyle he WONT be, which is Grappler.

Assuming his concept doesn’t change, he could be some kind of Mighty Glacier http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MightyGlacier. I mean Mike didn’t make Cerebella slow because she’s a grappler, but surely they’ll still implement some kind of slow beast. Maybe he would have some neat zoning tools to help him out, perhaps makes use of stuns with sound shockwaves and whatnot.

Music note zoning maybe?

I actually like panzerfaust, even with the tank removed. Maybe because i like the look and cartoonish proportions of the character,or maybe because i am cool with big guys in general. It is a picture after all he could be a goofball or something for all we know. I like the straightforward big guy thing(potemkin fan and all).

And the removal rule is interesting, but I tend to find if they follow it,chances are they will be more interesting, but its not live or die. Joker is a awesome character, but take away the clown gimmick, all you have is a psycho. Jon Talbain is awesome, but take away the kung fu side he is just a standard werewolf. Take away the tank and panzerfaust is still a abnormally large soldier with a cool look. I love the design of big band, but take away the sax life support,he is a big guy in a trenchcoat. Those things are apart of their characters,so they should be judged with those things, because we have nothing to judge them on based on personality or gameplay. And considering what has been done so far they could end up interesting.

Also i giant soldier doesnt sound mundane to me. I mean look at ms fortune,we now know she is cool, but look at just her art,she is only a cat person with scars. Take away filias hairisite, and she is a amnesiac with a fondness for cargo. Doesnt mean they arent cool. Not that i am harping on your opinion, but he is a character i want to see,so i feel the need to have some positive output on him.

Take away Ryu’s headband and he becomes a regular hobo lol.

Take away Hsien-Ko’s claws, and you’ve got
a dead girl with a bunch of weapons still. Okay, then take away her hat
I don’t think this works here.

I have a feeling Panzerfaust is going to be erudite, kind of like Potemkin. A big guy who can snap your spine with one hand, yet really prefers not to unless instructed by his mistress Parasoul and would rather enjoy a nice chat on ethics.

Or he could go the way of Sasquatch and become a giant goofball. I’d prefer him not to, though.

I thought the same thing too, but he’s actually an Aussie. Is it possible for John Patrick Lowrie to do a more deranged version of the Sniper? If so, he should be Zabel’s voice whenever DS4 enters production.

As a fellow Hsien-Ko fan, they also need to get her voice right too. It’s too buttery in MvC3. Needs a nice mix of cute and confident.

Anyway, to keep this on topic, Big Band will be very interesting to see in action. He could even be that one character the dev team talked that has a playstyle never seen before in a fighter.

And linking to TV Tropes should get you an infraction for distraction and endangering the health of fellow posters. I must resist the urge to click!

Sucked into a three-hour long ramble across TV Tropes

The removal rule needs to be applied with common sense, if you just mindlessly follow it you end up with overdesign like the SPEHS MEREENZ from Warhammer
or many other things from said universe. Disclaimer: I’m a massive Warhammer geek so I ain’t hating, it just feels like the artists suffer from “can’t. stop. adding. details!” syndrome, probably to do with showing off how much detail the miniatures can display.

Huh, well color me surprised (or perhaps, unsurprised), I guess the Japanese didn’t understand the whole distinction between the motherland and the colonies lol.

From her win quotes I always figured she’d have a bit of a calm willowy voice, both language voices are tolerable but I don’t especially like either of them (I’m sick to death of the kawaii bubbly chipmunk voice that infests everything Japanese tbh).

That cliché never gets tiresome lol.

I get that feeling with 40k, though then again, I don’t really follow it, so I probably shouldn’t judge.

Yeah, I have a feeling the artists didn’t do their research. Oh well.

I can see her voice being like you said, though she did have a bit of spunk in some of her quotes and poses too. It’s just hard to base the DS voices off anything, seeing as they’ve never had English VA’s before. I just hope they find something that works for her and the rest of the cast.

And it’s a clichĂ© because it’s true! I just spent half an hour editing pages and following links and I didn’t even know where the time went.

If Big Band can channel the power of thegroovitron and/or speak in song lyrics he would be an instent main for me.

Speak in song lyrics? OOHSOME!!! Require 10 ktons of Queen references! =]

Don’t forget some Pink Floyd

“We don’t need no teh command throws
We don’t need no teleports!
All in all I’ll just block all dat shit like a wall!”

He would be the embodiment of the Whose Line is it Anyway game “Song Titles”. I dunno about that, but there’s no doubt his moves will be theme named (either after songs, instruments or musical terms like Carl).

So
I really wish Darwin was in the game
But anyway SG needs a firebrand-like dude. He would totally fit.

maybe like a “true-form Samson”

I’m still hoping they implement true form Samson and Leviathan at some point. It would be like something from Power Rangers or Yugi-oh (or that game that features giant critters like Godzilla fighting eachother who’s name escapes me), just these two giant beasts just duking it out.

i would like to see a male character who used to be a girl and then had the operation to become a boy

not trolling

Lol I always pictured Samson as some runt demon thing lol.

To me he is like venom/the maw.

It’s not a specific rule. It’s something people keep in mind because it helps develop more interesting and well rounded concepts that aren’t so one dimensional. The statement about Warhammer 40,000 characters misses the point entirely since it has nothing to do with detail.

Panzerfaust could very well end up interesting due to animation/sound work.

I agree that it helps,it is a good rule,as long as its not overdone of course. As for Panzerfaust,I would love if he increased the strength of his punches by using the tank blasts to increase his momentum(it is inverted after all),and having it flip around for projectiles.Maybe a rocket jump. As for personality I would love a goofy personality. If they put a somewhat goofy personality to this huge behemoth with a tank hand, and yet have him be a faithful and competent soldier,he could be quite endearing. If they come up with something better i would like that as well.
