lol I read up about him on wikipedia which filled in some info about him. i’m hoping they release some Uncle Scrooge TPBs that feature him, how a philanthropist, the complete opposite of Scrooge can be a ‘villain’ is something I want to read more on.
I’m wondering if Warren Spector might be a little gun shy about using Flintheart Glomgold right away, given his choice for a villain this time out. In the comics he’s South African while in the cartoon he’s Scottish. Warren’s admitted to being more of a fan of the old comics than the Duck Tales cartoon, but he said he still liked Duck Tales.
Very late in replying, but I got about halfway through my Marv Wolfman Ducktales TPB. I couldn’t finish it, it takes too long to read, nothing terribly exciting happens, the dialogue didn’t really hold my attention. The whole thing felt dull. Oh well.
A comic shop nearby got a bunch of old Mickey/Disney/Scrooge books from the early 80’s so I snagged some of them. Lots of enjoyable stories. It’s funny how a 10 page story can be way way more fun to read than the issue after issue that I read of that Ducktales book.
The first story arc in Duck Tales ended. It was way too convoluted for a simple story. Warren just couldn’t stop throwing chatacters in here and a lot of them didn’t serve much purpose.
It’s also not funny at all, as opposed to the Darkwing and Rescue Rangers comics which are hysterical.
I do give him props for putting Cinammon Teal in the comic! Word now get Featherica Von Strangeduck and Feathers Galore in here just because! <3
Also, it does really feel like a Duck Tales story so he didn’t fall into Wolfman’s trap of trying to tell a Barks story through Duck Tales. Which is only a bad thing if you fail like Wolfman did. Sure there’s some Barks stuff in the new comic, but it feels more like Duck Tales.
The story managed to capture the show’s charm too so there’s that.
So overall I give it a B+. There’s definitely room for improvement. Warren Spector is funny in person so I’m still hoping he will find a way to translate that onto the pages. I do hope the next story is smaller and not so crowded.
Anyway it’s better than every Duck Tales comic ever made but that’s not a difficult thing to accomplish. It can in no way touch anything written by Barks or Rosa but that is a difficult thing to accomplish.
Still I’m rooting for Spector to improve. He’s closer to perfection than I might be letting on so really hoping he starts hitting the right notes soon.
