Just so you guys know, Pelican is making a PS1/2 -> PS3 adapter that will be released early next year, you can find preorders for it on Ebgames and Gamestop sites IIRC.
And with that said, I’m sure other third parties will come up with their own converters, so we should get around this analog button issue.
Once I get my PS3, I’ll be sure to test it. If it does indeed work with PS1 DualShock as long as the analog button is functional, then I will definitely be adding the extra button to my current sticks and to future sticks.
Okay so I finally got a PS3 today. Only a 20GB but oh well. I’m using it until I get a 60GB and will just sell my 20GB as a used system. I’m hoping to get a 60GB by Sunday so not too long of a wait.
Anyway, just to confirm, the PS3 does recognize controllers that have an analog button perfectly. Currently I’m using a joybox converter but I have a radioshack one downstairs that I’ll test.
Again this is good news because that just means people need to add a button for ANALOG on their current sticks for them to work on PS3. I’ll have to check for lag and such as well. That’s all for now.
EDIT: Okay so I didn’t get a chance to test things until just recently there are a lot of oddities.
On the PS3 XMB, you can use a PS to USB converter to use PS1/2 controllers (as long as they are equipped with analog). You can input commands and surf the XMB and even launch applications. However, when I put in a game, the controllers would not be recognized when the game booted. I don’t know why this is the case at the moment but nothing I did seemed to work. I’ll have to research this online and see if people have some answers. So right now it doesn’t look good for arcade sticks using PS1/2 PCBs…
Is it also because most of the games out at the moment support the Sixaxis functionality in some way? Because IIRC only a few games won’t be dependent on the Sixaxis (VF5, VT3 (if you choose to use standard/arcade controls duh), possibly Gradius 6 if it’s still coming out), and oddly enough those games require the need for arcade sticks.
Oh yeah, have you tried it controller swapping by any chance?
You could try out the converters that IGN used in their test, one was from Radioshack apparently.
Anyway it’s not the end of our PS1/PS2 pcbs, like I mentioned earlier in this thread, actual converters are on their way in the new year. Pelican is releasing one in January, so I’m sure others aren’t too far behind.
I tested using not only PS3 games, but also PS2 games like Tekken 5. I’ve tried multiple things like swapping, reassigning, etc. No luck.
I have the RadioShack converter as well. Neither that nor the joybox work in game so far.
Yeah, I’m the same way which is why I’ve been trying to test for everyone’s sake. It’s quite useless if the controllers are only recognized in the main menu.
Well they have a pic up of the converter now…by the looks of it, it’s similar to the RadioShack one. I don’t see how this will help exactly unless they decided to map the analog button as the PS button…well 2 more days and I can go out and buy it and see if it really works…I’m somewhat skeptical now…
Joybox 3 has button mapping, undetected directional+analog pad issues on PS3. I hope that either the upcoming pelican adapter works with HRAP1v2 or that Sony adds some kind of controller setup option to usb controllers.
What PCBs the RAPs use? I have the Capcom Fighting Jam stick. I doubt I am able to add an analog function to the PCB since it is a digital one, correct?
Im just wondering since the usb adapter lags on PCs, Will it lag on the PS3??? Keep us up to date with that guys
Let us know if the one for PC lag and the from Pelican.
