Dream of becoming Pro in Fighting Games

She is more of a zoning character than a rushdown character imo. The latter only comes in when you master U1 really, and you can reliably scare the other guy into exploitable patterns (see: most of AiAiTomo’s pre-Top 8 run in Evo).

Juri can beat Ryu and Rose in fireballs, you just have to be smart about it. Reaction divekick comes into the mix.

Teleport/parry can be useful, but more of the EX version where you can use it to armor cancel. Normally, the normal version is used to reset your positiong (the mp version which teleports her backwards).

Hanako check your pm’s

Well the thing is, If I show up to tournaments when I’m noob, people will become to know me as a noob, but if I get good first then I can enter as an already decent player and just get better from there. But either way I didn’t think of it the way you did, so thanks for bringing it up to me. You’re probably right when it comes to getting better and more experienced faster.

I have a hard time keeping up with Ryu in fireballs, but that’s probably cause I suck. She has a lot of tools to get around projectiles though, which is good.

Will do.

I had a dream once, then I got old, and the older you get your reaction time start going down.

The problem is…how do you know when/if your “good enough” to enter a tournament?

I thought I was “good enough” when I was beating my friends at CvS1 on the regular…then I went to my first local tournament and got soundly beaten.

I was mad at first…but I was humbled when my opponent told me good game and later I hung out with other local players asking questions on how to get better. They didn’t see me as a noob, rather as someone that wanted to be part of the community and wanted to get better.

You dont wait to go to a tournament. You just go when the opportunity arises.

2 and out? Go home and fucking practice.
1 and 2? Train harder
2 and 2? Doing better
lose after getting out of pools? you almost made it
top 8? can you feel the thirst?

You wont know where you stand in the subjective definition of “good enough” until you go to a tournament and see how you stack up. Then you can re-evaluate yourself and figure out what you need to fix. Dont wait. Just go.

I think there’s a different style of play you’re more likely to see at tournaments that matter also. people just play different in every scenario: online play looks like one thing, offline casuals look like another thing, tournament play is different too. IMO there’s not a lot of good ways to get experience playing tournament style until actually go to one.

Also your fear of getting a reputation as a scrub is misplaced. No one will know who you are or care. You’ll be another pot monster who went 0-2 and no one will know you exist.

As a new player who wants to improve, you need to take every opportunity to get better. It’s a collective series of steps that all reinforce each other. You play online, play at local casuals, play at local tournies, play at majors, talk to everyone who is good and willing to discuss game knowledge with you, practice in training mode. All these things go together.

If you’re trying to get strong you can’t really afford to pass any opportunities up. Do all of them, and immediately stop caring what other people think or how you’ll be judged. That’s the least important thing.

Well I suppose you guys are right. It would be best to go to tournaments if they’re in the general area I live in, but I don’t think I’d travel across the U.S for faraway tournaments when I’m not good.

And it’s quite interesting how I usually don’t care what people think of me; like my name “Hanako” for example since we talked about it earlier in the thread. But when it would come to playing at tournaments where everyone’s watching I wouldn’t want people to see me as a shit player. But that won’t matter since I’ll be a nobody during that time.

Nah dude you only travel if you can afford that shit.

Also it really would matter if you played like shit. The only way people will remember who you are is if you take down a god on stream, or place really high on multiple major tournaments. You go on stream and get bodied, “lol that got fucking REKT kappa pogchamp” and they forget who you are by morning.

Dude you’ve been playing (period) for how long? Two years? You ARE a shit player.
You are nobody and no one is going to care how poorly you do but yourself.

The sooner you accept that you’re a complete nothing, the sooner you can work on becoming something. Destroy your ego and go play the game you say you want to play as a ‘pro’.
If you can’t even go play it with other people, how will you EVER become anything?
You will make connections and you will become immediately a far better player. The secret? Be humble.

Bob and djin are giving you legit advice you would be smart to listen to and take to heart.
Any specifics about your playing are completely irrelevant at this point, you just need to play a lot and play with other players who are stronger than you.

Going to a tornament as a noob is like being the fat person at the gym

You think everyones staring at you but in reality they dont give a shit

That’s a really good analogy. You’re not going to lose much weight being afraid to go out and look fat. There’s no point in waiting till you’re 30 or 40 lbs lighter first before you start losing the other 100. Go now.

Emi best girl, purest of waifus

Thanks guys, my ego is gone. I’ve been trying to find some locals in my area but I haven’t found anything yet. I also haven’t found anything for Dead or Alive(another game I want to get into soon).

If you live in SoCal you basically live in about the best spot in the US to get good at fighting games. You have no excuse at this point. Top players move to where you live just to get even better. Good luck and get gud.

Why do we need so many pages to tell a young nigga to stop being dumb?

You can either be a rapper or play fighting games. All things considered there is a better future in slinging mixtapes at malls than slinging fireballs.

Like, goddam, this is still srk. Get yourselves together because 2016 is coming.

Terrible taste in waifu. Emi worst girl

We only needed the one and then started answering other questions. Also yay being an 09er wont be as bad anymore

Yeah, I can see it now. Hanoko will get dragged to the premiere of Straight Outta Compton. Drops his fightstick afterwards and heads to the nearest studio with his demo.
