Happy birthday maxx
Nice, i like your style. Thereās a lot of variety. You even do pixel art lol, thatās awesome. Iāve heard itās very time-consuming.
Iām thinking about getting an iPad Pro/Procreate/Apple pencil combo to get started with digital art. Iām cautious of going with Apple though as I donāt know how good it will be with 3rd party support.
I found this website for practicing figure drawing and facial expressions.
i personally use Samsung Galaxy Note tablets.
wacom too expensive.
Galaxy Note tablets have wacom technology in them. hence why they work perfectly for art.
i have the 12.2 and 8.0 tablets.
i also have a samsung Ative 700t. again. wacom tech.
as for art appsā¦i mostly use infinite painter and corel mobile. i also recommend artflow and cloverpaint. medibang is good too. all android os based apps.
some galaxy note 12.2 speedpainting using android app artflow
lol, im comparing windows apps compared to android apps.
android art apps never cause the tablets to overheat.
pc art apps always causes the pc to get red hot.
and i was mostly thinking of this app on steam called BLACK INK. which has great brushes but wants to melt my motherboard whenever i try to use it.
here.
ill contribute a drawing.
Markers are great for coloring from what Iāve heard. Never tried them thoughā¦ Personally I want to go digital for colored work since markers (copics in particular) have asinine prices.
Drawing comics could be done with markers alone Iām sure, but a set of ink pens helps me with fine details and line quality.
get liquid ink bottles. and a dip pen and brushes. markers arent necessary not to mention pretty limited in what they can do.
Iāll argue that using a gel pen will force you to git gud at being assertive and study your material properly because thereās no room for chicken scratching or BS. When I was a wee young artist I had a lot of trouble with that and then bought 20 cheap gel pens and went nuts for like a year using them. It helped a lot.
i forgot all about gel pens after i discovered sharpie ultra fine point permanent markers.
theyre the only āpensā i use. never looked back.
i highly recommend them.
edit
this is how theyre points look like
theyre like graphic pens but the point is big enough to release a good solid dependable stream of ink. the biggest issue i had with gel pens is that since they had rolling ball points, like any ball point pen they had the issue/tendency of quitting on you while drawing.
and youd have unwanted broken lines.
but these ultra fine sharpie markers have all the positive of gel pens without the issues.
but like i said, dip pen inks with dip pen not so much for drawing but painting. for painting.
lik for example.
lets say, you wanna draw white lines over black ink. impossible with markers, pens, and such.
even if you find a white ink marker or gel pen, it wont write very well.
with dip pen inks and dip penā¦easy peasy.
soā¦
if you plan on doing something leaning towards more of a drawing than painting.
use sharpie ultra fine
if its more painterly like you plan on layeringā¦use ink bottles.
heres some of my go to stuff.

faber-castell pastel pencils
prismacolor watercolor pencils
loew cornell oil pastels.
here is what a oil pastel work looks like.

oil pastels are very very hard to work with but the trade off is they have extremely vibrant vivid color. like nothing else. try out oil pastels if you havent already.
thoā¦
i recommend to have two things when working with oil pastels or oil crayons.
one is a blending pencil.
the other is a Xacto knife to scratch and remove any oil pastel you want.
this is what a blending pencil looks like.
this is the one i use. its a Lyra Rembrandt Splender colorless blender pencil
there are colorless oil pastel blender sticks too. those are better for top layer blending as opposed to bottom layer blending with the pencil.
So animation work being done (check spoilers)
Why it has the yellow marks, not sure. But in .move itās fine
Animations here

EDIT: Realize the jump is kind of weak.
There isnāt enough āspringā from the jump. Could have made him crouch lower and make his arc slightly higher. Too lazy to re-drawā¦ forgive meā¦
I want to get back into drawing again, but wacom and cintiq are too expensive for me. I just found out there are other brands cheaper. Huion looks good.

For traditional artists, Amazon has Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, Soft Core, 150-Count for $49, it retails for over $90
Re-drew Woody hopping around fixing some things and added a second hop.

Sorry for the odd bump, but just wanted to share my thoughts on animation so far.
Since I started this animation course, I have this feeling of always grabbing what Iām studying and just wanting to move it about. Simply breaking down my studies (whether itās a cartoon character or from life) into simple shapes really makes me memorize those shapes since now I have this sudden impulse to draw that character/object into a various positions.
Breaking things down is essential I feel, but it feels thereās more purpose in memorizing said shapes simply because of the animation feeling. And because of that, itās A LOT easier to store in things Iāve studied in my head, versus how it was before where I was kind of āstudyingā just for the sake of it and hope something clicked.
Drawing has been an interesting journey.
Thatās a good technique to use. And donāt apologize for bumping the thread. Keep it alive!
Part 2 of the Fish.
I forget to add his tail in frame 2 lol, also heās supposed to be catching the worm falling. I just didnāt bother to animate the warm dropping

@AriesWarlock you can also consider Galaxy Note tablets. they have wacom technology. you can get a good Note 8.0 or 10 inch manufacturer refurburished for less than 200 bucks. but remember youll be on android not windows. theres also the samsung Ativ 700t for windows 10 with wacom. but that will cost you 300 used. but i hear Huion is dope too. good luck finding what pleases you
