Markers are great for coloring from what I’ve heard. Never tried them though… Personally I want to go digital for colored work since markers (copics in particular) have asinine prices.
Drawing comics could be done with markers alone I’m sure, but a set of ink pens helps me with fine details and line quality.
Markers are nice but color mixing takes FOREVER!!! If you’re doing a major work and you want to go for vibrancy it can take up 75% of your time prepping then coloring. To achieve real color gradients (i.e., a strawberry is has a red hue but it’s true color might be red with a tinge of light green and brown layers depending on the shading) you have to mix several different colors over and over again. Plus, you have to maintain the same level of color saturation throughout to match the lighting.
Still, it can be quite rewarding as I prefer making palpable artwork.
Glad to see people are still at it. I’m still up and drawing, and the subject is making a lot more sense now. At this point, it’s all about execution, so now I just gotta keep drawing what I’m already drawing (pen work on wildlife, figure drawing, value practice, etc).
I basically do the peter han exercise to help with that.
Just draw a straight line over and over and over, different lengths and what not.
It takes a while, but it basically trains you to commit, even when you don’t want to.
Hmmmm…
What if we did some sort of Study thing? Like someone finds an image of a model or an animal, then we try to draw it and post results. I dunno, some crits?
I’d make for great feedback, I feel.
I hate the skull almost as much as the fox digging from Day 10. I just went overboard with the cracks and scribbling on the top half. Something tends to go very wrong when I do scribble drawings, but I’ll keep working on them…
Edit: Take back some of what I said about the skull. It’s not nearly as bad as Day 10, so there’s that.
I thought I had some work of mine uploaded onto my computer, but I guess not.
Drawing so much, shits all over the place. Or a lot of it I don’t like.
Here’s something I did for my class on drawing insects about a month ago.
Drawing various things in pen, I actually like the subject. Though, my drawing abilities are still weak.
I’m 7 drawings behind. Literally anyone who can pick up a pen can do this challenge, but NOOO I wanted to make a bunch of crazy work like some professional when I’m just a student. My biggest issues are not sketching enough prior to drawing, and trying to draw people which is really slow and frustrating for me.
When I finish the rest of my ink work I’ll be going back to my figure drawing practice. I love drawing characters but when I close the sketchbook and open the drawing book it’s not very fun anymore. I’ll stick to the pattern drawings that I’ve grown fond of.
Stop that. Dont say or even think in that line of thought again. Its just a means for a convenient excuse.
But you just burnt yourself out.
Take a break and go outside or exercise to wear yourself out and clear your mind. Then jump back in.

I havent skimmed through all the material in here yet. But I will say the video files of Vilpuu sketching is a real treat to watch.
I will say, figure drawing helps a lot.
I know I’ve had trouble with various things among my drawings. I figure draw at least 1 hour a day (get more if I have time in-between personal studies), and those issues I’m having are slowly disappearing. Kinda neat seeing that progress.
Hey I have this job I’ve been working for about a month now. I work 12 hr days 4 days a week. I have three days off. I was thinking If I spent those days off drawing 12 hrs a day. Would that be a decent amount of time to developing my skills?
