Thanks to the recent Nintendo Direct, we finally have some nice chunks of gameplay to look at.
Seems like assists will play a pretty big role in this game.
Unfortunately, the version of Super Butouden 2 featured in this game will supposedly have replacement music,
so that’s a bit of a shame. But at least the game is still there.

[details=Spoiler]Goku’s new form also in the game :

Well, there goes that surprise…
It’s my own fault for waltzing into a DB-centric thread before a movie, anyway.

Siliconera posted and translated the controls and commands: http://www.siliconera.com/2015/04/17/dragon-ball-z-extreme-butodens-3ds-controls-battle-commands-explained/

It looks like a mash up of BB/GG and Super Sonic Warriors. I find that interesting especially since I cannot use a D-pad for tradition fighting game inputs to save my life.

ShonenGameZ posted the QR code to get the demo on your Japanese 3DS: http://www.shonengamez.com/2015/04/17/you-can-now-play-dragon-ball-z-extreme-butoden-demo-with-this-qr-code/

I’m really impressed. It’s a simple fighter but feels to have a good amount of depth to it. The animations are great and the 3D effect is very nice, though subtle. I cannot wait for the release.

I would totally cop this game.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

2D ftw.

The more I play this demo, the more I like the game. Gameplay is simple but there is definitely some depth to it. Of the characters in the demo, Gohan seems to have the most open-ended combo system. He can land a standard combo (Y, Y, Y) into a launcher (X) and then extend the combo using forward+X for a series of mid-air kick rushes. I was able to land 2 kick rush series this morning. The variety of uses for the Z Assists are really great as well. Most of the assists do have some start up to take into consideration. So far, Great Saiyaman is my favorite as his dropkick goes far and can be used to chip away at the opponent’s guard bar, to apply pressure, or to extend a combo. Pu’ar is also good but a bit risky as the opponent might grab the senzu bean. Generally speaking, the higher the power of the assist, the slower the start up.

How cany ou guys be calling them game simple with depth when the game isn’t even release yet?
what makes this game simple?

whats make it have depth?

I’m basing my comments on the demo, which has been available for Japanese systems for just about a week. My point of reference is Super Sonic Warriors, the most recent 2D DBZ game which was also developed by Arc System Works. The simplicity comes from special and super moves being button presses or button combinations rather than motions. The depth is provided by branching combo paths and the assist characters. As noted, these are impressions based on the demo.

looks like this just came out in japan. anyone get a chance to mess around with the entire roster?

I haven’t played with the entire roster yet, but the game is dope. It looks like we have our first infinite combo: https://twitter.com/inazumakakato/status/610422008292048897

looks like a decent amount of characters, especially for this to be the first game in the series.

You can find everything you need to know about the game here: http://tripledagod.blogspot.com/2015/06/TripleDaGODExplainsItAllDragonBallZExtremeButoden.html

Western release announced: http://www.saiyanisland.com/2015/06/bandai-namco-announces-dragon-ball-z-extreme-butoden-to-west/

This game looks cool, besides the infinites and the 30 second supers.

I’m fine with infinities, but the supers are obnoxious. I think I’ll give this a try though.

I’m curious how many of these “characters” are just reskins or share half their move set like most DBZ games.

I know the game doesn’t have online play (which is sort of a relief), but is there local multiplayer?

There is definitely local multi. There’s a demo out on the 3DS eShop for anyone curious. It’s control scheme isn’t that exciting. There are no motion specials.

Still can’t grasp why they didn’t put online into a fighter
