This battle is full of some pretty high level play, pokes, zoning, RBD’s and Anti-TC’s. I think the only thing this battle could use is better ki management, though I do think they were trying as they both tried to do some neutral P’s for some Anti-TC’ing. Some of the pokes are a bit sloppy but I assume Adrian was going for counters because he was a bit far back so they were whiffing.
These are good fights too although old between Adrian and Vic. There’s a definite skill difference between the 2 though, Vic makes more gameplay mistakes and plays slower.
I think I need to record new fights with rambe04. That’s the bad thing, if these games had online they would be so much more enjoyable and you would always have some great matches
My mission has been to spread as much knowledge of the series so more people will know how to play it properly/better since it’s offline only. Otherwise you would only see massacres like these where the skill difference is huge.
Also, let us not forget Saiyajin2 who has arguably the best execution in the community and is amazing at ki management. Though I personally think his zoning and pokes could use a little work.
I honestly think he could have showed Bardock off a bit better but he really had no reason to push the string combos or use RBD’s or BD’s to maintain a higher ki level as Nonoleff didn’t really get a chance to get his baseline ki up to a higher level with transformations. He did use the neutral P anti-TC very effectively though which is why his opponent was constantly starved for ki.
I always find those fights with Nonoleff so funny because Nonoleff has so many chances to make a comeback or a decent combo if he only was better at the game. Like at 1:54 in the second video, he could have used Kaioken transformation as offense to break S2’s guard and get all his ki back in a combo before S2 got his full 3 bars back. Then as a rule of thumb you shouldn’t teleport when the combo hit count is already so high that regular hits are damage scaled severely; is best to conserve ki. He teleports anyways, and not only this his teleports with a TC instead of a regular push away teleport, which is why he always gets caught by the neutral P.
A very predictable opponent which creates videos showing a record of 100-0
Yeah, I have nothing against Nonoleff. But he probably doesn’t get much time to practice so he is quite a bit away from being on Saiyanjin2’s level. I would like to see someone on Saiyanjin2’s level play against him to give him a challenge.
Despite his low damage he still has extremely solid combo starters/chains like >PKK- and PPPK-, and Charge is a solid DM. Considering the fact that many lower-end characters in Budokai 3 have terrible options, Goten’s not too shabby. He’s one of my mains too; quite the fun character to play.
Yeah, definitely. I used to play this whenever my brother-in-law invited me over. I could never get the timing down for teleports, so I was always pretty bad at it.
The short answer is the tier list for Budokai 3 doesn’t play a part in the Shin Budokai games tier list. Despite the Shin Budokai games having the most refined system their balance isn’t that good. A lot of characters have moved around in the tier list because they have been changed or they haven’t received any changes but the gameplay has evolved so they have become obsolete. Goku is a fine example of this. In the Budokai games he has remained fairly consistently at around the high tier in the tier lists because his cancels are generally good, his supers are nothing to sniff at and he is generally strong in all areas. However, as the system has evolved and his play-style has remained the same he has slowly been moving down. In Shin Budokai games they have taken out his KKKK- which would have made him higher than he is on their tier lists.
Piccolo is a god in the Shin Budokai games because the Punch and Kick system was changed to the Rush and Smash system where Smashes have practically consistent armor and have guard break ability. So Piccolo with his SSSS-(equivalent to KKKK-) gives him an unrivalled cancel string. Piccolo is strong in the other games too but he is arguably the strongest in the Shin Budokai games hands down. Infinite World received quite a bit of balancing I believe so a lot of the lower tier characters have moved up the tier list because they actually have decent cancels and supers to work with. And with the introduction of the Aura burning and extra approach options most characters have a way to get in and do some damage on their opponents now.
As far as it goes Infinite World is the game you want for balance. And Shin Budokai Another Road is the game you want for most refined combat system. I really wish we could have a new Shin Budokai for console rather than handheld. But chances are we won’t be seeing that.
Also, as far as a tier list for the Shin Budokai games goes. I don’t know if there is one we have at the moment. One of the other guys will tell you. But in my opinion it is going to be a bit different from the Budokai 3 tier list and the Infinite World tier list.
That is pretty kind of you, lol. Overlordtico thoroughly enjoys playing Cell, he has some great cancels and I think is pretty good all-round character much like Goku that does quite a bit of damage. He also has the fastest neutral P in the game so his anti-TC game is probably the best amongst all of the other characters. Overlordtico could probably tell you more about his strengths and weaknesses as I generally avoid playing Cell. I think the reason he is top tier is because of his neutral P.
Well I gave Tico a message to talk about Dabura and Janemba as he has played them enough. I am honestly only familiar with certain characters. So I will just leave him cover that stuff. I’m pretty sure he did a video on both characters actually on his youtube channel.
As for the mechanic changes from B3 to IW. The stamina system was slightly reworked. Now you are pretty much punished for dodging punches by hitting guard at the right time. Blocking causes a little bit of your stamina gauge to go up but not as much as swaying to dodge the punch. Teleporting and getting hit by attacks will also increase your fatigue. This implementation is really a step down from the previous game as it rewards aggressive players and takes the aspect of defence out of the game really. It is also visibly clear how much fatigue you have built up as they re-worked it into a bar. I believe AquaTeamV3 has a video demonstrating fatigue lock. Basically a full combo from most of the characters will build enough fatigue to put them in a stunned state. While they are in this state you have room to taunt them at most, twice. By doing a taunt, like in B3, you can make their ki drop by a bar. This is an effective method for making sure your opponent stays under the minimum 3 bar requirement for a TC. So providing you can execute it correctly you can get them locked into a combo for maybe the whole match.
Supers will link from any input string. This is a great addition actually as it allows for more combo variations. Of course you don’t want to link a Super from an input string that hasn’t got enough stun for the Super to have a frame advantage. Otherwise you are going to have the Super blocked or you are going to get punished. Ultimates now don’t require you to go into Hyper Mode. This is great because now Ultimates are actually usable in a competitive game. Hyper Mode was replaced with a broken Aura Bust mode that is basically the same as Hyper Mode except Super don’t cost Ki and you don’t enter into fatigue mode after your Ki is completely burned.
A lot of characters were given extra approach options as well as higher priority on their P+K charge moves. Vegeta having the greatest priority as his will beat out probably anybodies P+K charge move in the game. At least I think so. It has been a while since I have played IW. Again, Tico has a vid which talks about the changes between the two games. So you might want to check his channel. And there was a pretty good overhaul of the characters in terms of balance. Mechanically IW isn’t the best Budokai engine. But it’s balance was the best. I have always said that if you want a Budokai game that is balanced then you go for IW. But if you want the Budokai game which has the most refined game play mechanics then that has to be Shin Budokai Another Road.
I think that is it. When Tico posts I’m sure he’ll fill in any blanks with the mechanics.
No, I don’t know how to play these games. I played the shit outta it for the 1st 48 and my hands were plagued with blisters. Then I watched my homies and the fam throw hands on this game and those bastards kept lockin’ up in "clash*—>*mash" situations, and that’s when I was leik, “,fuck this game…”. Loved watchin it being played, tho.
My body was literally not ready (unprepared) for Budokai.
Game looks interesting. I’d gladly have tried that game ages ago if I didnt dislike Dragon Ball and most shonen in general. But especially Dragon Ball.
All right, mangas of Jojo, Hokuto no Ken and Saint Seiya are an exception
but I cant stand that design. Cant believe it didnt make me to quit Chrono Trigger.
