I agree with what they said in the Vesper video. Biggest concern is still the combo system but since it’s Arksys I hope it will be fine.

The misconception is that these “clone” characters are getting spots over new or unique ones. They aren’t. The characters the devs want in the game are the ones you’re going to see. SSJG Goku’s presence doesn’t prevent Hit’s, for example. Nothing short of intent is stopping them from putting in both either.

I have no doubt whatsoever that the game will be great to play, like you said Arcsys knows their shit.

Actually cannon wise in the original dbz ultimate/mystic gohan is the strongest non fused character, so by default why the fuck would you not have him in the game? I mean we are going with cannon right? So not including vegito…up to that point gohan is the strongest so I think you need to check yourself. You are the one talking about opinions here, trying to justify one character is completely different in his various forms, while one is completely the same. Youve shown no argument as to why having all these different buus, is completely different than someone wanting 2 gohans. I mean I don’t even care about either character. They both dont interest me, but ill never understand why people want to try to argue about something but then have no argument and cant just admit they like a character more so than the other.

It’s Arcsys but they must have specs to stick to given by Bandai, I don’t think they have carte blanche to go crazy with the game, that’s what scares me.
But worst case scenario, there is the beta and if the game is dull and boring (in a competitive way), I hope there will be an uproar and they fix it.
I will know in 2 months, but until then I’m scared.

It does if the base roster is small and memorable chars that SHOULD be in the base roster are not. I doubt it will be small, and I doubt they’ll actually go through with doing that, but alongside that, development time on the base roster is limited. It always is, and schedules/characters are normally set in stone early into development.

It doesn’t help that a VERY high amount of detail is going into all this. That’s half the reason why I kept my roster prediction at a low (for a team game) 20 characters. Fan favorite OG ____ is missing but Version X of ____ is in? You have to wonder why that work wasn’t put into something unique first.

Lastly, there are a vast amount of characters that DO deserve to be in the base roster purely out of fan nostalgia, but still won’t be if predictions turn out true.

They’ll likely told him they were gonna show Trunks at EVO, so he took it as playable Trunks. Which isn’t really impossible, since they can have the Top 8 for one of the Anime games at saturday last game, then show Trunks at the end of it, and everyone will be able to play him on sunday.

Lots of possibilities, but the one of them revealing another character drops, and instead the chance of real footage of Trunks increases.

Considering the game releases early next year with a beta coming very soon and EVO is the place I’d want to impress people the most, if I were them, I’d bring a bigger surprise than Trunks.

All that considered, the answer is still the same. It should be even more apparent. We don’t know what these devs are doing behind the scenes, but I highly doubt they’re incapable of coming to the same simple conclusions as a few randoms on the internet that have never developed shit. We know it makes way more sense to prioritize unique characters that people want to see. THEY know that as well. Cloning characters takes no time because you’re reusing a lot of assets, so it doesn’t really seem plausible that they couldn’t find time to put in X character because the time was used on a clone. That’s almost never the actual case, but the conclusion people come to from the outside looking in.

Again, if you see a character in the game and another character missing, it’s because, for whatever reason, the devs wanted it that way. It’s not because they ran out of time or because resources were spent elsewhere.

It seems that the combo system and the variety of playstyles is the two main concerns early on. The combo system has me especially worried because of the increasingly stupid choices based on “accessibility” that fighting game developers are making. I’m cooling my engines for now. Can’t afford another disappointment.
