Know what would shake up the meta? Giving Piccolo and Beerus’s assists more priority. Maybe the balls can go away on hit but are immune to Super Dash. The game lacks a proper ‘mine’ assist. It would bolster defensive play, which based on this game I am unsure would be something people want, developers included.
Maybe. The thing with Vegeta assist (even though it’s no longer super golden diaper tier), is that it’s still active for so long that it can hit you after your super dash ends. Since Vegeta assist isn’t the point character, Vegeta assist is immune from the super dash tracking. Making it one of the reasons why Vegeta assist with good movement is one of best ways to deal with the stupid tracking point tools in the game.
You can call Vegeta when you see a super dash, chicken block the super dash and then they get hit by Vegeta as he hits them during the recovery.
In some ways anything that works as a strong super dash bait is kind of good, just because super dash punishes are usually pretty big.
Freiza’s assist if it tracked would be legit good. It takes up that log trap/jam session/captain corridor space pretty well. It’s just it has zero lockdown and appears in one static spot on the screen so it doesn’t affect neutral for a long time. Not good for something that you’re going to have to wait an eon to use again.
It does beat super dash, but super dash can also beat it by just moving past the hit box before or after it becomes active.
It definitely feels like a game where they wanted to have strong assists at one point and then said the kids will get mad and threw that in the trash. Compounded with generically only having one per character. Which means if a Vegetable tier assist ever does come from a DLC character, people are going to have to run to that assist just for variety.
I don’t mind everything being revolved around Vegeta assist or beam as that is vs meta. You’re supposed to build teams and we always learn every vs style game that you cant just put your favorite cute stuff together and have it work vs top assist/top DHC/top points all on same team. Just with the lack of strength/variety of assists and the long cooldowns it becomes way more of an issue than it needs to be.
Don’t forget that the cast doesn’t have the wide powersets and zany antics that the members of the MvC line do. OG MvC3 had 16 more characters and a much wider range of powers. Of those (and forgive me it’s been a while) 120 assists in the roster, there were only a handful of characters that had assists good enough to use in neutral (Missiles, the three Beams, Jam session, Akuma Tatsu, Drones, Aim of Hawkeye, Cold Star, Lariat and Tron’s fire). Anything else was either the character wasn’t worth at the time (Arthur, Shuma) or you just made it work because you like the character. And yeah you can cite examples like Trish traps or something that were useful, but lets be honest, were icing on the cake rather than a reason to pick them.
Think of the ratio there. That’s 11 assists out of 120. Not even 10%. Is it any wonder the much smaller cast of 24 assists with nigh universal skills (not to mention several duplicate characters lore wise) only has like 3 assists anyone throws out in neutral? You’re 100% correct about the variety, which is why despite the low %, despite the ocean ‘meh’ assists in Marvel, you could teambuild with anyone in the roster for days on end rather than resigning yourself to using just one guy like with Fighterz
Hit stun decay kicks in way too fast for yamcha to have loops in sparking. Can get some decent damage though.
Don’t have time now but I also want to check if he can keep you in block stun til sparking runs out
True to some extent, though being able to only choose one assist per character just runs the percentage down even further. Either way this is Dragon Ball Z. Everyone should have some nuts shit they can do even though not all of them are dimensional creatures or monsters. Either way there are still plenty more at least decent assists in 3 or Marvel 2 than the ones in DBFZ. Marvel Infinite lets you create way more stuff even with the average 2 characters you could play also.
The IP having a homogenized set of characters who do the same shit to beat each other up is somewhat a problem, but the fact that there’s so little strong assists to choose from is still entirely the game’s fault.

True. It’s a side effect of being faithful to the characters: some characters have signature attacks and staples that must be implemented, often making them special moves which further limits the range of ideas they could do for assists. I don’t think it’s a big part of it, but I believe it did play a part.
Speculation is speculation I suppose though.
wrong thread
Solo sparking 1 bar combo and a similar combo that can lead to a launcher if you need one
I wonder if I could get another divekick and iad in there before I go for the 2M. Sucks not having time to try stuff out lol
Is there a way to spoiler stuff to minimize it like it use to?
@Blue_Team The new “old” spoiler tag is called “Details”. The spoiler function on Discourse is simply a blur and not a true old school spoiler.
In order to Details a post just click on the gearbox icon next to the smiley face for the edit options. You should see 4 options and one should say “Hide Details”. Click that and then fit whatever text or video you want inbetween just like a spoiler. Like Xenforo you can name the spoiler what you want so people can get an idea of what they’re looking at without you having to detail above it.
Unfortunately just looking for a way to hide my vids when I get post happy lol
Vegeta could also link two level 3s together.
He was INSANE in the beta.
I wouldn’t mind is the ki blasts Broly used were his assist if he comes out much slower than Vegeta but locks people down for longer (like he comes out and 20-30 frame startup before firing)
God I would legit crack up if the only reason to play Broly was his SSS tier assist. That’d be some monkey’s paw shenanigans for Broly fans right there.

I guess it’s for the better that he isn’t too much better than beta at this point.
Bornfree did an interview with Nakkiel and he talked about how Vegeta air DP into sparking is really dangerous. Can call out any random super dash in neutral and go HAM on their life bar after.
Good to see offensive use of spark start to really mature. Kind of the final frontier of what most players need to add to their game before everything just becomes drilling down on optimization.
Wonder if it’s racoomes beam that messes with the HSD?
It is the reccoom beam.
Back to the lab with yamcha lol. Maybe since yamchas j.h doesn’t spike, I’m hoping I can loop with an iad.
