Downtown Toronto-Dedicated Fighter Arcade

licensing issues? just curious, but how does the legality of opening an arcade differ from opening a console hub? it would be sick if you could have legit boards for the older games like 3rd strike and cvs2. otherwise make sure the setup is mint (zero lag). newer stuff like sfiv should be on console considering how expensive a decent setup would be, not to mention console exclusive characters. TE sticks do use top of the line parts btw, but i take it you meant arcade panel vs sit in your lap sticks. i think jlf/osbn would be the prefered stick/button combination for pretty much every 2d game these days.

as for the game of choice, get sfiv, maybe tekken 6 when it comes out. those two are the most universal; everything else will only target a niche market. once you establish a player base you can start experimenting.

monthly passes would be nice, especially for people who could conceivably be there every day between classes (me). anyways, best of luck man. i hope you consider my advice!

Downtown? I’m in. I work downtown and would love to drop by after work sometimes.

SF4 please. Tourneys? Yes, Friday nights or Sat.

Good luck covering your costs. I really don’t think you can survive on just games. Maybe use some space to sell food or bubble tea?

definitely try to do two things like you can make it like a pub for ppl to hangout or something like make it super friendly for ppl to come in and just chill (Bubble tea is the beast drink) Monthly passes would be GODLIKE

thirded bubble tea. you might need to get kof if you go that route though :china:

This is true. I’m sure you know by now, but Sony doesn’t license PS3’s for this kind of use in any way shape or form. So I assume you secured a license for xbox’s?

don’t forget the billiards tables. would be nice to play a game or two after or before playing SF4.

I noticed at Orbit the most popular machine is the fucking foosball table fobs yell everytime they score (myself included)

i would come there every day after work like i did back in the day @ funland

we should call it the new funland.

what’s the trouble with arcades then, would he have to pay royalties to every developer? if that’s the case, how are there random dirt movie theatres/stores with like, alpha 3 cabs and stuff?

edit: can we get a ping-pong table? i’ll donate 2 sanwa bottons if we do!

City councils hate arcades. Apparently they attract lesser civilized individuals (aka drug dealers, crack addicts) and are a source of the gutter trash of society. Also some backwards cities make you have a liqour license to even have arcade machines on premises

This place is Funland III

Ok, took a look at the place again today, smaller than I thought. I believe I can fit up to 12 cabinets so up to 24 players. I think that is big enough to start. The layout in the place is a bit weird, but I cant complain as you guys love the location. Keep in mind this estimate of 12 cabinets is just an estimate, I am still waiting for Autocad to finish updating so I can figure it out exactly. If we have a full house (ie 24 players) then there will be no room for others to hang out, except for outside. But, if it does ever get to that point, I’m sure the profit will allow for rental of more space.

As for real boards I am trying to piece together a 3rd strike board, I have a cartridge and motherboard in the mail, I know a guy who has the cd drive, I just need to disc and hopefully the board doesn’t need to be revived. If anyone knows someone who as a full working setup, let me know! or even parts. they are getting stupid rare to find. I do have an SNK vs Capcom board, let me know if you guys want that. As for SSF2 Turbo, I will look into it, anyone else interested in it?

As much as I would love to call it a variation of Funland, I don’t think that is a good idea as I want to stray from the “arcade” name. Here is my pitch; This is a professional place for people (possibly members only) to come practice, that includes individuals and regional and personal teams.

Tekken 6 will definitely be there when its released, I can pull some strings and try and get it a couple of days before release ;).

I understand a lot of the customer base will be people who come in between classes and on lunch breaks. That’s why I was thinking of the daily fee. I will try my best to do the whole monthly thing but don’t break my balls if it seems expensive, remember I need to cover costs. What do you guys think is reasonable for a monthly pass? ie, what would you pay/can afford to pay?

I would love to have some bubble tea and a pub like atmosphere, but at the moment there simply isn’t space for that. As I stated before, I am trying to grow this community, if it does, there is no reason it cant expand. I will be putting 100 percent of profits into expansion till I am satisfied with the facilities. I will definitely have some chips and pop type thing, MAYBE some pizza so you guys can come by and have your lunch there. The problem with bubble tea is that requires extra plumbing. It might be possible if we can decide on only a few flavors and I have them pre-prepared, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

as for any more requests, please keep in mind that space is VERY limited, so Foosball and billiards tables will have to remain in your imagination… for now.

On a side note, I need someone hardcore to make sure input lag is non-existent. Has to be someone seriously hardcore so they would be able to notice, preferably in the Brampton area but if not that’s fine. I don’t really have a place which would be convenient to do this at the moment so I can bring the screen by plus any hardware if needed (360/fightstick). Please contact me VIA PM if your interested. Note that your hardcore-ness will need to be verified by other members on the forum.

So as for games it looks like there will always be one dedicated machine for SF4, SF Third Strike, Tekken 6, and KOFXII. Meaning those games will always be running, There will be other machines for the variable games.

If you guys can get a list going of who is 100 percent going to be able to make it out that would be great.

Carthik

You need Gerjay to test input lag.

1 Yes
2 About twice a week
3 Yes. Weekends for tourneys, Mondays/Tuesday for RanBats
4 SF4
5 Sanwa/Seimitsu

Would be willing to donate CRM sfotware for contact/tournament management.

I don’t think it would be a good idea to fill up with machines right off the bat. Any time away from peak hours you’ll have people spreading out and then finding that there isn’t much rotating competition (i.e. two people will play each other constantly).

Besides, Funland made do with one 3S cab (the one at the back doesn’t count).

Wow…this is sweet. I’d definately come to this. It would be a great place to host tourneys too.

Run marvel pls

1 - yes
2 - once a week, maybe 2x
3 - tournaments are run on sat/sun traditionally. Have a random weekday during the week where you can have a ranbat session. Save Friday Nights for casuals.
4 - SF2 Hyper Fighting. Not sure how easy it will be to score a board or what the legal issues are involved with having some sort of emulator setup.
5 - sanwa everything.

thanks!

HF is on the XBL arcade.
