Thx a lot fellas, all of you gave ame a whole new insight of the game rhytme, i feel now i way more conf with ryu, i still do a lot of mistakes, like dropping combos, still spaming srk ( muscle memory. It’s absolutely not what i want) , but i’m back to the point where i enjoy the game, having fun with, and knowing why did i lose, where exactly the game went down.
I thank you all again for it.
Any adivices against Guile? i’m having my ass kicked by guile
Guile’s have an itchy trigger finger in wanting to always flash kick. If they are crouching down waiting for you to approach, I usually crouch down at the edge of their flash kick whiff range and whiff a few jabs in front of them, with the odd c.mk to make is seem like I’m trying to poke them out. They will usually try and flash kick my c.mk when I am whiffing jab instead, which opens them up for a crush counter combo.
Also keep in mind that while the flash kick is a very strong anti-air, it is very susceptible to a deep cross-up jump in on their wakeup.
i am not well versed in sf5, but for guiles that like to sit crouched and wait for flash kick, is also a great time to take advantage of the space they are giving you by them not moving. chuck in a fireball and dash in, then quixotic’s advice comes into focus with spacing. i do believe guile also has superior zoning capabilities than ryu which is why you dont want to try to outfireball them. you want to get in relatively quickly. if baiting the flash with normals isnt working, throw him to hell. immediately after inputting the dash, hold down baxk to preemptively prepare if he wants to flash kick as soon as you get in distance. if he doesnt flash kick and still stays crouched, you can move in again. if he flashkicks, you get a free punish and he probably wont be stupid enough to do it twice. if he tries to shift to zoning with projectiles, throw out an ex hadouken then immediately dash in again.
after you conditioned them not to spam flash kick, then you can begin applying pressure and mixups with overheads/lows etc. keep forcing guile to mix up their own attacks so they cant commit to a single strategy by simply knowing what beats what.
fireballls will force guile to try to zone you. jumps, ex hadoukens and im sure other tools will beat his zoning and force him to either go for pressure or more turtling. when he the pressure upper hand, block until he gives you an opening (this is where frame data comes in handy) and you might want to check out guiles frame data to see which of his attacks are negative on block or when you can create to try and get out of pressure and reset neutral. you can always buffer shoryu’s if he gets too jab happy or jump happy. once you can outsmart his pressure, establish your own, again being careful that he can flash kick, so throw to make him scared of it again…
it’s al about outhinking your opponent and knowing what beats what. trust me, this all begins to make more sense once youve played fighting games long enough. i have barely played sf5, but for the most part all fighting games share very similar ideas. guiles flash kick is basically terry or rock’s rising tackle, same concept behind the specials and attacks… it’ll all click eventually. just keep studying analyzing and playing, but remember it’s all about enjoying yourself and the game
thx a lot for the help guys, i improved greatly thx to all of you. I had a friend of mine the other day in my house who used to be way better than me in SFV, but this time, I was way better than him. I’m still working on all the things you pointed , and hopefully i’ll get everything right in the future after a lot of hard work
your understanding of fundamentals improves the more you think about fighting games. this knowledge will translate to any fighting game you’ll play. a certain depth of understanding fundamentals is necessary to play high level.
to get at high level in said game, you have to grind the game. again, it’s about maximizing time, space and options to near frame perfectness, understanding matchups, react instantly to any scenario.
to be a great player you have to have the psychological gift of being able to outsmart other players like in chess.
