I have to admit that I liked the Hit Box, just wish I had money to buy one.
Good stuff tonight, fun games all around, even though I mainly sat down with AE more than anything. I need to hit the ground running with one or the other, just having fun times messing with AE one night, then MVC3 another week, inconsistency is brewing. Anywho, next week I’ll actually sit down and play with the Marvel heads and see what I can do.
Upa, really good talking to you about reveLAtions, the Hitbox stories, and Green Lantern shenanigans that forced JR to retreat home. Regarding what we spoke of, let me know of how that goes, obviously we established that. I’m hoping to get enough work in on it come EVO.
I went to a bonfire party thing last night and got drunk.
Hey guys…I’m hungover.
I didn’t have a ride =/.
My bad 4sure next week ill be going xD.
Dont worry broski.
Don are you gonna be holding gathering tonight?
Thank you everyone for showing up and making it a fun night.
It was pretty chill. We had 13 people show up. I think a lot of people were worn out from revelations and also AE just came out. Usually when a new game comes out people don’t like playing each other. It happened when Super came out. But since it’s EVO season I think it’ll pick up this coming Friday. Thank you ALAX, Erosentinel, Kara fail, Upa, Jint, anewbie, Symbolic, Naked Snake, John, Lavell, Judotrip, Garrett, and Garrett’s friend.
Nevertheless it was a great night. Yun is God Tier. I don’t even practice at all and there are times when I can dominate with Yun. Even guys who barely played Yun were already good with him. But for those who say he’s too strong and needs to be patched right away calm down. The game just came out in the states and needs to be explored more. IMO you can’t really nerf Yun. It’s more the character than the game. The character of Yun is just a beast over all and will probably be the best or one of the best characters in any game you put him in. So please don’t beg for a patch. Find a way how to play with him. So far Bison, Cody, and even Guy are Yun stoppers. Don’t mess up the beautiful marriage between arcade AE and console AE. I don’t want to have a different game in the arcade and a different game on console.
So please Ono don’t give into the scrubs and influence you to patch the game. Street Fighter has always really been about the players and not the game. I never really believed in tiers.
Yun is garbage in CvS2.
LBC owes me a new avatar.
Pretty chill night last night. glad i was able to show up, brag that i was sponsored and continue to drop dante combos left and right…FML
@Naked - I still talk to him about everything, so hang tight otherwise i still have that loaner box i can lend you in the meantime so you can get started on the training
At this point, just know that I really want to get to work on things, so that loaner I will definitely like to use when a chance comes up for it to sit in my hands.
We need more high level MK9.
I still don’t like how easy Yun is. I had to put in work to make my Yun in Third Strike at least semi decent, here all I have to do is figure out a few links and target combo into EX moves for a free ultra. It is rewarding to land those (beautiful) Genei Jin combos with Yun. Still, Hugo is THE MAN so I stuck with him.
I don’t ask for a patch of this game because thats just silly, but IMO the decisions that went into this game were strange. Why nerf Balrogs Ultra 1 even further? It didn’t even do that much damage in Super. Removing Rose Ultra 2 invincibility was stupid. Cody changes were good, but his wake up options are so bad he can’t compete against Yun/Yang when he is getting up. I main Cody, I am comfortable enough to stick around with the character, but sometimes it feels like I fight a losing battle every time.
Lastly: CvS2 is better.
Hey Suga Free. Green Lantern was awesome. It’s actually quite deep. Now it makes me want to see Thor.
Here’s my opinion on all The Twins complaining (Even though I don’t understand why people think Yang is too good also). The game has now “truly” been out for a little over a week or two and already people have been complaining for Capcom to patch. It’s new mentality that disturbs me. When something is perceived as overpowered people want the quick fix patch. Just like MVC3 for the Sentinel patch in just two weeks. Instead of trying to figure it out people just want to label the game unbalanced right away.
I hate to sound like a old Tyranosaurous Rex but back in the arcade days, people use to just play and figure it out and the attitude was that the game was viewed on how great the player was and not how strong the character is. Nobody really gave the excuse of tiers or 8-2 character matchups. Look at ST today and how people could dominate with old T. Hawk. Back when ST was new T. Hawk was considered trash and now he’s strong. In 3S the general view was that Q was trash. If I bought into that mentality I wouldn’t realize how great Q is.
So IMO being old school, I think patches are the worst thing to happen to fighting games. Patches will shorten the potential longevity of the new fighting games that come out. If the game constantly gets patched then the game won’t have a strong foundation in the long run. Imagine if 3S constantly got patch ever since it came out it would be terrible. 5 years from now you play 3S cabinet and it’s totally different from the one at home which was constantly patched.
Leave the game as it is so that the whole world in arcade and console can play the same game. We need the countries that don’t have easy Internet access but love to play fighting games to be on the same page. These countries are important because they keep the classics alive when the US moves on to newer games. Keep the AE cabinet alive forever. SF4 should be finished already. It is complete.
^Green Lantern is fun, I am a fag for Lantern though so I kinda have a bit of a bias :3 If you’re interested, I could bring some of my Lantern comics for you to read. I love it
As for the patching, I totally agree with you 100%. I think the new school mentality is that certain games need to be a certain way in order for them to remain competitive. Sadly, this usually translate into people to start bitching and moaning about how “X character is OP”. Its just that given the technology that is available to us now, things can be changed on a whim. If the community bitches hard enough, developers will eventually cave in and give them what they want.
Problem is, people can’t seem to appreciate any game for what it is anymore. There is a certain expectation that comes with the game and we all know, gamers are very finicky when it comes to these things and they will never be happy with the results. At the same time though, I think this promotes laziness from the developers by leaving shit up to chance and hoping no bugs happen. There was this giant mess over the release of Fallout: New Vegas because of how buggy it was and it was just getting patched as time went on. Some of these patches actually ended up breaking the game of all things (Corrupted saves after a major patch). Whatever happened to purchasing a solid game at the time of release?I guess that died with the release of the Xbox 360 and PS3.
The way I see it though, the FGC is making a big deal out of nothing when the Twins + Fei Long dominating the game; especially when there are characters that do well against the Twins. My guess is that it dealt with how Super Street Fighter 4 was well balanced and then it turned into a game with obvious dominating characters. Still, even picking certain characters would result in everyone frowning upon you. Example: Tokidos winning in MvC3 and one of his characters was Phoenix. I guess its just this new identify that gamers are building. All this negativity that just makes them look like babies who are crying because they didn’t get their lollipop.
My philosophy for ANY game, competitive or otherwise, just cut the crap and play the game for what it is. If people did that, then I think any and all communities wouldn’t be getting such a bad rep. At least that’s my two cents.
Without delving into it too much, it’s coming back to the Old Guard vs New Guard ( Take game for what it is vs YO PATCH SENTINEL ) mentality, and I’m inclined to side with the New Guard on this if it came down to choosing one or the other, but I will ride the line. The biggest reasoning behind it is because with how developers want to take the new technology with patching games, they are opening themselves to higher expectations. Will they ever get it right the first time? Hardly, but that’s what patching is for. Did they take advantage of it? I doubt it, I think the number of patches gone into the SF4 series can be counted on one hand if I’m not mistaken, and how long has the series been out? Maybe it’s because of my MMO experience with World of Warcraft and how things work with patching done on a consistent basis ( And I’m strictly talking consistency, not in terms of balance because that is a completely different argument in itself ), but when I here developers want to open a system to balances and fixes, I expect it to be taken advantage of consistently to where the water on bitching can be settled for some time.
I will say that the sheer amount of bitching being made with the New Guard is down right annoying, and I’ll be the first to tell someone to just sit down and shut up over things. Does that mean I won’t play a game because it isn’t being patched by developers a lot of the time? Not at all. If nothing’s being done about a game to “fix” ( and I use the word in the sense that everyone will see things to be fixed differently to their own standards ), that’s when the Old Guard ideology comes in; You sit down, play the game, and learn your Anti-Twins / Fei-Long / Phoenix science. It’s already been in the works, people did the same thing with Sentinel pre-nerf, and there was even a youtube video out on it.
I agree with Sugarfree, people just have to sit down and play the damned game and learn what to do. Make a complaint, make a comment about the characters, but don’t keep pushing it out in people’s faces unless you want to be viewed no better than a stream monster troll. And I like trolls.
Going to Green Lantern, I heard there was more disappointment with the film than good; that it was on par with Fantastic Four 2. I haven’t watched it, but just hearing that makes me want to just wait to obtain a copy by other means.
^I heard a lot of shit about how Green Lantern wasn’t good. I still enjoyed the fuck out of it. If anything, I think it is more on par with my least liked of the Marvel movies (Iron Man 2). Give it SOME credit, I think the Fantastic Four movies were dumb fun. This one is an extension of that IMO, really the whole point of the movies is to have fun. Not every super hero movie will be Dark Knight or Incredible Hulk.
green latern wasnt that great of a movie. THor was way better than that shit hands down. lucky for me i had a free movie ticket so i don’t regret watching GL at all. got another free ticket just for watching the movie so it was a win win for me xD. all i have to say is that the green latern comics are epic and the movie fail hard. Marvel movies (except Fantastic 4, and both hulks movies) > DC movies (except only the batman movies).
lbc is a fag
lenin a faggota
jint your asian
Upa i own you :3
yes i’m bored xD
Well in an earlier thread I shared with you my obession with movies. I studied and intensely watched a lot of film and I also have an understanding of film history (from the silent era to the blockbuster era) so when I watch a comic book film I see it from a different angle. Historically speaking when you look at all the film industries all over the world, you realize that a lot of them have progressed and evolved and can do what the Hollywood Studios can do. For example Brazil can make Goodfellas-like calibur gangster movies like City of God while Korea can make something as artful and pop like Oldboy. So the only thing that really separates the Hollywood Studios from the rest of the world is the expensive genres like the comic book movie. This mainly because the Hollywood studios are one of the few in the world who can afford all the special effects required.
Now Hollywood has been making Super Hero comic book films since Christopher Reeve Superman but I think that since Spider Man, in addition to the better special effects, comic book movies have started to get more dramatic and character driven. Even though I hate it because it tried too hard to be artsy, The Dark Knight was a mature retelling of the Batman and Joker story and it was like the first Batman movie that wasn’t made for five year olds. Well 2nd if you also count Batman Begins.
Now the reason why I like Green Lantern a lot is because it was a heavily character driven movie. I don’t know if it matches the comic book well but the character development and the psychology between the protagonist Hal Jordan and the antagonist Hector was done well and with great detail. I like how both characters were scarred by the past traumas in their lives and how their current behavior as adults are shaped by that trauma. It is so well detailed that both characters are easy to identified with. Not only that but there is also a psychodrama that are clearly expressed in both characters.
I am going to say that Green Lantern is a better character study than Black Swan. There the psychological detail that explains the motivations for the characters in Green Lantern is far more elaborate than in the murky Black Swan. In Black Swan you can really only explain why Natalie Portman behaves the way she does in only a few ways. In Green Lantern you can find many ways why Hal Jordan and Hector behave the way they do. There are endless possibilities here.
And that’s what I want to point out in today’s comic book films. Hollywood has gotten better and found a way to blend in great special effects without sacrificing story and character development. And this is why I have motivation to see Thor now because the guy who directed Thor is Kenneth Branagh. Branagh made so many well made Shakespeare films. His best was the 4 hour and 20 minute Hamlet. So now I’m curious what characters he came up with in Thor.
Now I like Marvel. I though Wolverine X-men origins was a solid character study but I think the DC comics are better in expressing character driven comic book movie. They are more serious character studies such as in Dark Knight, Green Lantern, and even Superman Returns. I’m one of the few people in the world who hates Dark Knight and loves Superman Returns and I’m a Batman guy. In defense of Superman Returns: There’s really nothing that complicated about him because all he wants to do is fit in with humans and protect them. The only tension in his character is that he has an obession with Lois Lane. Now if they make Red Son into a film, a retold what if story if baby Ka-El’s ship landed in Soviet Russia which made Superman end up standing for the Communist way instead of the American way, now that would have the potential to be a great epic comic book film.
I actually believed there was more to Superman than just wanting to fit in with the humans, because as I was told, he actually has a hate for Humans or something along those lines. I know the new Superman movie is going to touch on the darker side of the story which I would really really enjoy over Returns because I thought it was ass.
About the GL movie without giving anything way for those that want to watch it unspoiled.
[details=Spoiler]One thing I had against the Green Lantern movie and just from what I heard is that even if we had an idea that Sinestro would be starting the Yellow Corps in this movie to set up for a possible sequel, there wasn’t enough in the movie, if at all, to delve into why he wanted it while he was still with the Green. That’s something that I think is dumb if it’s true. Not enough to make me not watch it, and not being a die hard fan of the series it’s still something I’d have wanted to know.[details=Spoiler]
Granted I haven’t seen green lantern, I think they are so fucking lazy with the giant blob bad guy. Didn’t they did the same shit with galatus on silver surfer? what a big disappointment.
