A lot of us here both or either come from what I call the old old school (Super Turbo, Alpha Series, Xmen Vs SF, and MVC1) and/or the new old school (Third Strike and MVC2) so of course, just as in the SF4 series, MVC3 is gonna be threatening to the old tradition.
For those who grew up and played on the coin operated machine games, IMO today’s consoles games are not designed or marketed to be played as serious as the arcade games of yesteryear. They are made for people to purchase the game and play it and have it in their collection. Unlike an arcade game the companies don’t really care about replay value hence the easy learning curve for a game like SSF4. It’s not like an arcade game where there is money on the line every game forcing you to play better and get better.
Also, unlike console, in an arcade game the more you play the more money the machine game makes. Whereas in a console game, once you purchase it, there’s no need for you to play it more since the companies already got your money. Maybe that’s why arcade games were so complicated. Because the more you played the more deeper it got. So a complicated system of the fighting game fed into the economics of the machine. It’s like paying little by little for a little more information at a time.
This is not to say that the new console game i.e. SSF4 and MVC3 can’t be played seriously because the passion that the community today have for these games are great. I myself just don’t feel today games are as technical or complicated like they were back in the day. But that’s understandable because the userfriendliness of todays’s games give the new player less time to learn the game. Which is great for getting a lot of new players involved as quick as possible. So I don’t think it’s fair to compare the old arcade games to the new console games. But they’re still competitive.
IMO I say that with these new games, everyone has to start over. Whether you played Street Fighter forever or you just picked it up yesterday. I’m going out on a limb saying that the MVC2 Magneto and Ironman combos won’t work in MVC3. It’s a new world now so I think today’s player either has to adapt or get the crap beat out of them.
Even though I’m not a Marvel player myself, I have always been an admirer of the MVC2 scene. So I’m kinda geeked up with MVC3 coming out. Just because the word in the community is that there is a lot of hype and anticipation for this game. Also it gives me an opportunity to have a real Marvel scene at my place. I was kinda disappointed that no one at my place really got down on MVC2. So now next month presents another chance to have what can be a really good Marvel scene at my place.
I always like going to an arcade when there was a crowd around MVC2 and a crowd around 3S. Let’s see if that will happen with SSF4 and MVC3.
Wait six months it will go down. When the dlc comes out for console it will go down in price. Alex’s Arcade ended up paying 12K for Vanilla (2 cabs) after Vanilla came out in console.
I have to get SSF4 one day. It’s necessary for my collection. This game will last a long time.
Actually a lot of ST, 3S, and MVC2 arcade games today always make money. SSF4 AE will definately make money back in the long run.
There’s this hospital in the OC where my friend works at. They got Hyper Fighting in the break room. Always playing it.
Pare i’ll be over this evening… I heard last on the chinatown fair stream AE dlc on June 11… so the viewlix cabs for them will most likely go down more in price in the next coming months.
It’s still gonna be a lot of money but projecting that this game will at least last 2-3 years it’s a good investment. Arcade Street Fighter in general never goes out of style. Well at least not in So Cal.
We shall have a gathering tonight from 7pm-4am. I’ll be going around collecting the E fee from everyone so have it ready. Make sure all of you go through the open side wooden gate of the garage and not the front door. Should be obvious when you get there.
Great games everyone, and a pretty good turnout this week.
I’m bad with names but…
Good session with the T. Hawk player, that helped me learn a lot about the matchup. Props to the other Bison for hanging strong. And much respect to the Dan player, who is definitely the best Dan I’ve ever played against.
And shoutouts to players STILL blaming their losses on the sticks, or the TV lag, or the game not reading your inputs right… whatever makes you feel better about losing so you don’t have to admit you’re getting schooled.
Keep crying, it’s making you a better player. Honest!
It was awesome. You all enjoy your weekend and we shall do this again next week.
Oh on a side note. I’m gonna make it now from 7pm to 3am instead of 4am. I myself am really tired at 3 and a lot of people leave by then and the few who stay from that 3-4 hour are just playing tired and burnt out. So for this new season I’ll end the gatherings at 3 am. I think when we set our clocks to fall back, the nights just seemed longer and grueling. In the summer it was easy to reach 4am and even till 5 am since the night seemed faster.
So from now on we end at 3am. That’s usually the time when I get the vibe that everyone is all Street Fightered out.
GG’s, That Gouken/Honda player was the counterpick king for Hawk ! LOL. You outplayed me for sure, kept catching me on the reptitive ways I was trying to get in.
Thx to Judotrip for the Bison experience.
RandomUltraDavid is still the king of empty jump ins, he’s like a S rank master at that.
