Donnie yen just can't stop beasting : Ip Man 2 thread

Sweet, could someone please put a video showcasing Hung Ga?

for all who didnt see Ip Man 1.

this is probably the movie ive ever seen so far.

What year does Ip Man 2 take place in? Because Bruce was born in 1940.

I’m hyped, the first movie was fucking great.

Ip Man vs. 10 mother fuckers
let’s run that shit back

since the firts one took place during ww2, this is after that. right after he moved to hong kong and met and taught bruce (wasnt he friends with bruces dad?), so that young lookin guy is probably bruce (not the real obvious).

first one was awesome, one of the best martial arts movies of the last decade. second should at least be as dope. even though the fighting was good for most part (1), it didnt reach the level of ong bak and tom yong goon very often. and the fights concerning choreography where usually really good, but at parts it could have been better imo. but the story and all was way better than those of tony yaa movies.

It’s official: Donnie Yen won’t be back to play the main role after “IP MAN 2”

I’m excited to see Ip Man 2. It is up there with Fearless imo.

If you guys like Donnie Yen, be sure to check out Sha Po Lang, aka Killzone.

Netflix only has the DVD but it is a must watch. I absolutely love that movie.

im so glad donnie yen is getting this exposure ive literally been a fan since i was a little kid. dude spent part of his childhood in boston and that meant sumtin to me. he was a big influence growing up.

SPL is sick, I watched it with some friends who were big asian film fans and I loved it. I still need to get my own copy, it’s been years since I’ve seen it so I should watch it again.

I don’t understand why isn’t he famous or at least making an impact in the US. The kid grew up in Boston, knows how to speak english, isn’t bad looking, relatively young and can kick all sorts of ass. Instead we have the old-broken engrish speaking Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Chow Yun-Fat trying to break into the market. WTF?! Are Americans too entrenched into the idea that asians can’t be masculine nor speak english properly that they can’t accept someone like Donnie?

Always liked Donnie the best.

I think people want the stereotypical fob Martial Arts MASTAH figure rather than someone who can pimp it in Chinese and English.

And fight better on-screen and IRL. :frowning:

That’s because Jackie Chan, Jet Li, & CYF has charisma & can act. Not to mention they were the biggest actors HK could offer at the time. Those 3 guys paid their dues…Donnie Yen was just a sidekick throughout his movie career & when he did star it was mainly just B-film material. Im not trying to diss Donnie Yen but you’re trying to diss iconic movie actors in movie industry. They aren’t even in the same league.

Also, why would you want Donnie Yen in american films? Seriously, Jacky Wu & him are like the only authentic MA guys left in HK. If he goes then its all pop starts trying to do kung fu again. That’s fucking horrible, if you followed HK cinema like i have for almost 25 years you would know how important it would be for him to stay.

^ yeah im still pissed how Donnie got jobbed in Blade 2.

That’s been a problem that Bruce Lee touched on, and he was a success because he broke from those stereotypes. I don’t know why Donnie hasn’t seen the same success.

bruce was also in a time when they needed an action hero like him for all the ghetto kids and asians. bruce really was in the right place at the right time. plus hollywood is racist.

Anybody from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and/or Australia managed to see it yet…?

intersting discussion on my boy Donnie. I’m fine with him staying over there to do work it means more movies that I can get and act all like I’m the shit cause I’ve seen it and someone else hasn’t :arazz: but I would LOVE to see him in a Lethal Weapon 4 type role…give him some REAL screen time in America. I didn’t even realize he was in Blade 2 until like last year, and I own the fucking movie on DVD.
