Does white lithium grease work as joystick lubricant?

Dude that stuff has Teflon (PTFE) in it. That’s pretty cool. I may check out if they have a thicker version available.

I’ve used white lithium grease on sticks, it isn’t ideal but works OK. Weirdly, I think the less you use the better it works.

just to be certain that my stick will at least survive this round

so far it’s been 2 weeks, and it still works, is there any chance that my stick will fuck up from this in near future?

I also applied this on rubber band to see if white lithium will deform the rubber band, and after 3 days it still seems to be in once piece.

this will be okay, right?

For now but you should still try to find a better grease.

I’ve used lithium grease in the past without issue, so it must have been a plastic-safe variety. This stuff was originally intended for lubricating worm-gears in optical drives, which are usually in direct contact with plastic components.

I have often read that molybdenum grease is ideal for joysticks, but I wasn’t aware of silicone grease.
I actually found a couple of tubes of silicone grease at work this past week. I guess I know what to use it for now.

You know while I think about it, isn’t derlin called a “self lubricating” plastic?
joysticks with derlin actuators can ALMOST get away being played completely dry of any lubricant.

You say that Honda will not sell Shin-Etsu – They sold it to me. My local Honda dealership Honda North has it’s own website; I just went there, went to the Parts Ordering page, gave them the order # for Shin-Etsu… They e-mailed the next day, which was a Friday, and told me that they didn’t have any in stock but could place it in their next order. I picked it up the following Monday after work. I guess this doesn’t work everywhere but may be worth a try (just don’t expect to walk-in and get some without actually ordering it).

If you ever have trouble getting your local Honda dealership to come off of some grease, all you have to do is this: Call and say something along the lines of: “This is Eric with BlahBlahBlah Automotive. Do you have any Shin-Etsu blahblahblah in stock?” If they ask if it’s on an account just tell them “No” and that your guy will be paying when they pick it up. I was a service writer for various auto shops for a number of years and those parts counters don’t check creds for this kind of stuff.

You just won yourself an Inciteful for that post!

First time I have ever heard of greasing/lubing your fight stick. Why do you do it?

@BehindTheLight Same reason you lube anything: Reduce wear, provide consistent action and prevent ingress from dirt/sweat/that icky, goopy, dead-skin cell stuff.
Always thought Molykote was worldwide?
A good one, if you can get hold of it, is Dow Corning DC4 (Old name: MS4). Designed specifically as an insulating, electrical grease. Feels like a petroleum-base but is all silicone. Doesn’t eat rubber or plastic. Works a treat.

Ok nice. Now I need to research and find out exactly how to apply it.

Pretty in-depth walkthrough here:

This is what I use. I picked up a tube of this back in 1997 when I was doing maintenance work on old HP laser printers (the big 220v dudes), HP3000 mainframes and all that old out of date computer equipment (even by 1997 standards). Used that shit everywhere, and I still have that same tube.

Actually, I wonder if there’s a expiration timeline for that stuff? Just realized how old that tube is after writing that out…

how would you grease one of these

Pretty much the same way as any other stick.

Get the hard plastic and metal parts that move and come in frequent contact with each other.
I would also put some silicone lube on that rubber piece to keep from drying and cracking.

As long as the tube is properly sealed after each use, decades.

Maybe on the rubber grommet but there isn’t anything on a K stick that really needs any lube. Everything is mostly fixed in place.
