Most Blazblue characters don’t have much depth…
Too much flat shading for that.
What do you mean? They have pretty detailed backstories from what I remember, especially Ragna, Jin, Noel and Hazama (who is voiced by the guy who did Vega in SFIV).
Does quantity equate to substance?
Yeah, it kind of does. Why?
Everyone has substance by that definition.
Don’t forget that Blazblue is still in its infancy. Many people are calling out on Capcom for not developing the SF characters enough.
Blazblue is like seven years old. And four versions. Not ancient but definitely not infancy, but again. I don’t consider “More words written = Depth” to be true.
Even then, the games had story modes in which you see how the characters develop and how they play into the grand scheme of things. The storyline is rather complicated, so you have to pay attention to what’s going on. (To be fair, it’s been ages since I have played them.)
In any case, what I meant to say is that there needs to be more showing and less telling in the SF storyline.
@Prof Compared to SF BB is definitely still in its infancy. Maybe toddler stage. SF has been going on almost 30 years now, at least 4x longer than BB.
SF also has a fairly rich history behind it. If you don’t read between the lines you miss out on a lot. Plus, you really have to check out the art works that the developers made over the years to really understand the characters. Even Bison/Dictator has to, sometimes, relax on a couch with the company of a fine female companion.

^ this always spoke volumes to me about the games. These were characters who were growing at one point. 4 kind of back tracked that a bit, but I love this picture, it has a lot of meaning behind it.
@Moonchilde: Not to mention that a lot of people miss out on a lot of stuff that happened during the Alpha series.
