yea, that shit sux…it’s rare that i use ex ds at all now…it’s not rly a point anymore IMO…maybe 1 time every 10-20 fights…or just never…
Since it has invincibility why don’t you use it on wakeup or to stuff grab rushers?
Good question, and here’s the answer…
Once the level of competition raises, u’ll notice some things…one of them is that higher level opponents won’t just simply throw on wakeup, if they do, they will be a bit smarter than just do that, they would do something first, like get out of throw range and come in and throw/kara, or some whiff move to lull u in a false sense of security…even with the agressive ppl and the rush down guys, they might actually bait ppl to use an ex dp on wakeup so they can punish. Parry, or even just simply blocking are better options…when fighting, u need to keep certain things in mind, like specific ranges, reading ur opponent, when to conserve and when to use meter, etc. EX Dragon smash on wakeup for the most part is not that essential to a good Sean player, maybe if u can’t see what the meaty attack on wakeup is, which is rarely acceptable, but after a while, u’ll notice that EX DS will be use less and less because you’ll see better options…like for the grabbers, if u expect a grab, u have a few options…if they’re rushing in on u, either hit them while they’re rushing or even simply jump. that way u don’t have to use meter and u won’t get thrown. If u expect a throw on their wakeup, meaty w/ close s.mp (it stuffs it)…
Also, it’s still slow and can be thrown out of…not a move I would throw out all the time…it’ll all come to you the more you play.
So you can throw them out of the EX DS even though it has invulnerbility frames like a DP?
ok, perfect example…tick throw attempt…if it was ken/ryu, after the tick attack, if u did the ex dp, it would blow past the throw attempt…if that was Sean, and he tried to ex dp, he would get thrown…there’s other situations, but that was a quick example…for wakeup, that’s not the case, cuz there’s a certain few frames i think right when u get up, u cannot get thrown…, so yea…that’s a different case, but that is not something I would get accustomed to…trust me when i say you have better options…
the beginning windup of the ex dragon smash is when he can get thrown (not talking about on wakeup, in general)…
Dragon smash has no invincibility unlike other dragon punches. That’s why Sean can be thrown out of it.
