i said newish. cross training isnt new but the idea of straight up destroying old tma ideals as a whole…thats some modern age shit. it wasnt til the late 90s it finally started to die out as a whole. youtube helped destroy the myths that niggas were killin people with ki n shit.
I think cross training (ie. using proven science training methods) which is my idea of cross training is definitely new. However incorporating multiple idealogies into martial arts isn’t new IMO. MMA is a popular format so this idea of melding multiple martial arts is just blowing up but its not a new idea.
I couldnt agree more about crosstraining using science in fitness is the future. But MA’s like Sambo or Systema (the real stuff lol) or QCQ or even Jeet Kun Do melded multiple idealogies.
jeet kune do was kinda the beginning, now its more a mainstream thinking. take the best stuff from other styles and kick out the bad. science obviously is newer just because the technology got better.
Modern day submission grappling is ever evolving. From 1993 to now, the growth and cross training mixing of styles is more prevailent in submission grappling. When you got bjj black belts training with olympic wrestlers training with judoka training with catch training with greco roman mixing with both boxing and muay thai clinches
I remember when Rogan used to rave about him on his podcast, I didn’t believe the hype since he has a habit of exaggerating the abilities of fighters he likes but the kid is the real deal, mesmerizing.
Except he said he wanted to fight Terrance Crawford. That would have been suicide. Vasyl surpisingly has a professional loss already. His first professional fight he won the featherweight title lol. His movement is nice as hell. He’s also ambidexterous
