good for you! i dont understand how new players already know their playstyle
I’m noticeably better with zoners (or rather, characters that control from range), because I am not that confident in rushing down.
However, because I feel that that’s too cheap or something, I pick other characters instead. How I pick other characters depend on other factors, but in BB there was this really amazing Hazama player, so I decided to pick him up. (I’m supposedly better with Lambda though, according to my peers.)
Marvel though forces me otherwise. Nemesis was a nice compromise.
I gravitated to Juri after picking up AE (and discovering that I was, infact, not the greatest Ken player ever… SNES alpha 2 vs cpu lied to me!) and her style just clicked with me. Mained her ever since. I do go out of my way to play characters outside of my comfort zone though such as Nina in SFxT (girl feels so damn stiff despite her dirty, dirty oki and stupid damage) and shoto’s in general. This not only gives me a better understanding of the character I’m trying to play but gives me experience with aspects of the game that Juri may not.
Sometimes I like playing characters that don’t fit my natural playstyle, then I actually play them, cry about my poor performance and go back to what does fit me.
I think I could learn said characters but it feels like it would eat a lot more time (not in the fun way) than just playing the characters that do suit me and my natural playstyle has a large enough roster for it to usually not really hinder me outside of being unable to play that one character I saw someone play really fancy.
This happens to me a lot as well. I’ll look through the cast and be drawn to the most aesthetically pleasing character for me (or in some cases, a well-known character I have a lot of loyalty to). For example, I main The Flash in Injustice since he’s my favorite DC superhero of all time, but technically his RTSD playstyle isn’t for me. I’m a little more analytical and like to feel out my opponent first, so I’m mostly defensive. I still play him, but I have alternates that fit my playstyle like Lex Luthor for when I can’t play Flash well enough. Sometimes I get lucky and get the best of both worlds, though (like with Spider-Man in UMvC3) Whether you want to stick with the character that doesn’t mesh or find one that does really depends on how much you enjoy playing with the character. Still, if you place significant value on winning in fighting games I recommend you at least learn the character you mesh with the best as an alternate.
SFxT Rolento and HDR Cammy both emulate the attributes I like in my mains, no surprise that I use them both. I prefer characters who can rushdown, be safe on block, and have good AA options. They don’t need to be heavy on combos and links, just a good neutral game and plenty of mobility. I don’t even care about stuff like having mix-ups, my style has always been chipping away, making great reactionary reads, and playing conservatively while looking for openings.
hi man.
if u pley charactar with good anti-er u can anti eir when they opponent are in the eir.
this is very good if u are get airborne assult by the opponents. but if yew rely to much on anti eir
chance are taht u sooner or later get hit in face by airborn assult.
Hah, for some reason I kept gravitating towards the wrong characters. When I started taking SF4 seriously on its release, I went to Akuma and later in AE towards Ibuki.
While all the options were fun, flashy and felt like an amazing toolset of choices with which to destroy my opponent, I later realized it hinders me instead. I’m just not the kind of player, or not experienced enough to keep it all in my head, ready for immediate use. And in the end, it doesn’t matter how simple a specific playstyle is, as long as you make it solid enough to work.
Luckily enough for me, I did try SFxT out and found “my” character. Even luckier that she’s being ported over to USF4. So now I’m just trying to practice my fundamentals as much as possible with Chun, while waiting for Poison. But were it not for Poison’s intriguing design, looks and moveset, I would have never realized I was playing the wrong characters all this time. Wrestling my own mind over why all is breaking apart.
I usually play zoners/long range characters, but in KOF, I also play Kyo with Athena and whoever is rotating in my team.
I’ve tried playing charge characters a few times (They really don’t work for me.) to try getting out of my comfort zone and trying to expand my variety in characters.
It normally ends up going horribly wrong though.
For me i play character i like and cause i think their cool. It doesnt help that they way they were built kinda fit my styles.
Chris in marvel. nothing feels better then popping a cap in someone’s ass in a fighting game. That and he punches boulders. Just think about that thought boulders man!!!
Zero well its zero he puts megaman to shame
Dante… well its fuking dante whats not to love
and Vergil… i play him as anchor cause ya know top tier… well that and cause i love his character and when i get angry i get MOTIVATED
The characters i play have the ability to go in gung ho but they also have the ability to stay back and zone a bit
Im all about those midrange characters that can zone and rushdown comfortably. Having all the tools means that i can easily dictate the pace of the match, and if im not i can easily adapt to the pace im playing. People like Rufus in ae, Magneto in marvel, and cervantes in scv. Also:
