Do pro FG players generally have regular jobs?

i work at a job that requires me to basically just BE there. while i’m there i’m working on my blog, practicing in training mode (Sf4 on the laptop), or just generally reading up on game stuff.

I live paycheck by paycheck. But playing SF4 and playing in my band has actually contributed pretty decently to the $ situation, so far this year

there are players and TO’s making money from this shit, but I guess you wouldn’t know it by sitting in streams fawning over these guys all day

Isn’t Triforce in his thirties?

SRKTT makes dat paypah providing y’all with the stuff you need to play the games with.

what about 10 to 6 :frowning:

“I’m going to get this shit sooo real. Y’all here because you didn’t pick a top tier. You should’ve pick a Crowbar who has 8-2 matchup against but picked the knife instead. Shit nigga, just pick a top tier”

Pretty much this. As a whole competitive gaming/eSports enthusiasts are trying to push towards pro players not having to work but a lot of them at students and/or have jobs. I’m working towards going “pro” at some point within the next few years but I’m going to keep “real” career going because it affords me both a good amount of time for side projects as well as great money (I’ve pretty much been paying for my traveling to different events on a check by check basis, don’t even really have to save at all… Even my EVO trip can come out of a single check easily.)

I don’t see what’s wrong with the idea of having a job in the background, but again, that’s from someone with an established, lucrative career.

can’t believe nobody has mentioned it at all, but look at what the Complexity/Cross Counter Triumvirate [Gootecks/ Combofiend/ Mike Ross] have done with their pro player status. that’s a good way to keep the funds rolling in.

I work in sales and marketing at a printing company
BTW i think fighting game players can be some of the best salesmen in the world (not me just in general)

I’d say (almost) all Japanese pro players have normal jobs. In Japan… being a “professional player” is judged as bad and socially rather unacceptable.
In South Korea instead the situation is totally different and being a pro player is actually a career (we’re talking about Starcraft, though. Fighting games are not that popular in SK).

This is true for 90% of them.

Pro gamer HAHAHAHAHA!!!

… Soul calibur came to my mind too. XD the thread is about fighting games!

Lol! I thought the jobs were real for a moment… I was even ready to except the missile defence system whatever. I actually can’t remember when I realized they were fake jobs. XD

If nothing else once he got to chris hu…

SC2/SCII will always be Soul Calibur 2

Fuck eSports.

You’re playing the wrong game if you’re doing this for money.

Surprised nobody mentioned this guy who’s in the FG community.
