Do pro FG players generally have regular jobs?

Serious question. I’m trying to understand how pro players who aren’t college age or younger manage their time.

For fighting games, I can’t imagine that even the very best players could live off of tournament winnings alone. Do sponsorships pay enough to support a decent lifestyle?

Some do, and some don’t.

Some are busy with school.

Yes, most pro players have jobs. No sponsorship in the world is going to compare to a consistent paycheck week after week.

Now if you played SC2 in South Korea at a professional level, then no, you probably don’t have a job. But this is due to the fact that the average SC2 player makes a TON of money per year, under sponsorships alone.

They must have some very efficient time management strategies. I’ve put a lot of thought into managing my time to facilitate a solid 2 hours per day of practice time, but that’s about the most I can realistically do with a 40hr job + commute without becoming a hermit.

Depending on their age and position, it might not be a full-time job. If it is a full-time job, obviously a lot of their free time is spent playing the games, or training for a major. Without doubt, this type of commitment takes time, and if you truly love what you do, you’ll always make time for it.

SC2 as in soul calibur?
is that game still huge in SK?

StarCraft 2… I really hope this was a bad joke.

I think most do.

Weather Report av is the only reason I checked this thread out.

He is never joking. Nigga got exiled from Juri boards.

Anyway

The most creative jazz band (if not band generally) there ever was.

Only a SUCKA works a 9 to 5.

most probably have part time jobs at least or if they have full time jobs dont have a lot of responsibilities. cuz am not the “hungriest” of players. but try having a fulltime job, being their for family, broke down house in need of repairs, taking care of a cancer surviving mother, and wondering how bills are gonna get paid. no pity party here but i know youd see an improvement in my skill level if i was so carefree.

LOL at Triforce… this was from the King Of Chinatown documentary if i’m not mistaken. saw that b-roll from Power-Up 2012 and Triforce was rambling again at the end wearing the same clothes in that clip. now that’s a sucker doing a 9 to 5.

Pro players not having to work regular jobs is the eventual goal. Right now, only a few players are making money. Heck, we’re at the point where there seems to be more folks making money from things related to the games but not playing the games themselves.

I asked this question on a stream last night and the helpful viewers therein informed me of the following:

Rockefeller runs the audio/video feed for the Gen. Pop. showers at the California Institute for Women in Corona.
Aquasilk designs Russian missile defense systems.
Chris Hu has a lucrative recording contract.
Dieminion has designed a new “darker than black” form of camouflage.
Alex “Dirty” Sanchez is the sole pancake batter supplier for the IHOP chain of restaurants.
Fanatiq pretends to be black, much to the amusement of his chums at the country club…while his butler Knives waits in the car.
Ricky Ortiz and Filipino Champ own and run a sunglass hut together.
James Chen is the author of the “1,000,001” joke book series.
Mike Ross is a con artist, or engages in some other form of fraudulent employment…the stream enthusiasts were not clear.

Sanford gives “scared straight” speeches to youths caught up in the dangerous and deadly world of turnstile jumping.
Wolfkrone is the #1 Black Elvis impersonator in the midwest.
Marlinpie is the transporter IRL
Marn steals from vietnamese gangsters…that one’s true actually.
Arturo Sanchez is in the greyhound secret police. Don’t let him catch you smoking pot in the bathroom…he’ll confiscate it.
Monique is a full Sargent of the fun police.
Ultradavid is the manager at a metrosexual manicure, and manscaping spa.
PR Balrog is a spokesman for the hair club for men.
Justin Wong crash tests go carts.
Yipes is a snack chip mogul.

Alex Valle is already past the mandatory retirement age.
Chris G has his own church…or religion, really. #LooksLikeJesus.
Jago works for Dunder Mifflin #AboutDaPaypah.
Jon Choi is the last remaining trance DJ in the bay area.
Floe gets half a penny every time someone types “DansGame” in twitch…expect him to be featured as Forbes richest person next year.
Dogface is in the witness protection program.
DSP pretends to be angry for money…that one’s true actually.

Seriously, though, if anyone’s making a good living from this it isn’t the players…or the TOs…or the streamers…or the arcade owners.

oh no… another shitbag trying to be funny again. get outta here you twerp! you’re already late for YOUR 9 to 5!
