Do people still build custom HAPP (or similar) arcade joysticks?

I apologize for being such an idiot, but I have no idea what any of this means. When I was playing in tournaments in my hometown, people would bring HAPP joysticks, and explain to me the whole HAPP thing, and I had no idea what any of it meant. All I know is when I used a HAPP stick my friend lent me, I would be able to execute combinations to the exact specification as the arcade I played on in the local FYE arcade in my hometown.

I am just looking to play on my PS3 the same way I played in the arcade, maybe with a little less ability, but overall there is no way to hold the PS3 controller in a way that allows me to perform certain combos.

I appreciate all the feedback though. I don’t think I have ever made a thread on any forum with this many posts. I’m hoping to soon be performing combos like I did when I was 20. (10 years ago). Right now I am choosing Sentinel, Storm, Commando, and being beaten by people who are using Zangief.

IL (not happ, unless it’s before year 2004) competition sticks are still extremely awesome sticks.

The best approximation of a Happ (actually IL, as Happ branded sticks suck now; IL makes the good versions) competition joystick is a Seimitsu LS-56 joystick with a Seimitsu octagonal gate. Then you can play both shooters/platformers and fighting games equally well. They are competent to this day.

The Sanwa Octagonal gate sucks for fighting games that rely on diagonal move priority due to the extra resistance you get when trying to transition from a diagonal to a primary direction, while they are good for shooters and platformers. The square gate doesn’t have any extra resistance, as it only exists at the diagonals, and is probably the best for most fighters, but is just completely utterly horrible for platformers and shooters (8 way) that rely on the cardinal directions (and don’t get me started on 4 way games).

I don’t need to play anything other than 1 game, for 1 system. Just Marvel vs Capcom 2, for PS3, which is why I requested the HAPP parts. I do not play any other games, and I need my diagonals to be perfect. So I don’t know if that affects anything.

Either way, I am still unable to find any decent 6 button sticks online, so I think I may just be stuck without.

I tried to contact those guys some time last year about single player stuff but never heard back. Also, from the pictures, the button spacing that they’re using looks off.

Yeah I actually bought 2 off of eBay and both were USB. The first time I didn’t ask about PS3 (didn’t work) and the 2nd time, I asked, and he said it would (it didn’t work).

Tough luck for me. Haha.

I have been telling Doug at Foe Hammer to build a Happ stick for the past couple months. He is just hesitant there isn’t enough demand for it. If you guys want Happ/Mas style boxes let him know via email, facebook or instgram. You don’t have to commit to purchasing anything, just let him know that there is a market for HAPP cases and that it would be cool to see FH make cases for them.
