The matches were laggy and you’ll see how laggy because I dropped 80% of my links and combos. So all I wanted to do was block because either lag was gonna screw me up, or I was going to be free.

Demon Flip Throw is more irritating than damaging. DF palm -> cr.lk can be blocked if you’re looking for it. Crossup tatsu is a bitch but is punishable if you focus the tatsu or if you autocorrect.

In my opinion Akuma’s vortex isn’t great because it’s hard to guess. You can react to it pretty well. It’s great because it’s mostly safe.

Why would you block a set up you know you can get out of.

You know how JR plays, he wants to keep you guessing and bamboozling you with mix ups and resets.

Just get out when you see the opening and go back to making him fish for sweeps and unsafe far.HK

Go into Training Mode with Akuma and see which set ups you can get out of, and which ones you are better off blocking. A lot of the time you will be surprised at what you can do.

I blocked sweep a lot. Plus JR is very beatable because he’s very predictable. I just couldn’t do anything because my reaction is shit and the matches were laggy (check how many combos I dropped…)

I’m going to go into training room for a bit after I beat Thirtyfour in this endless lobby. Trolling with Balrog/Fuerte as we speak.

Ok… but which ones can you positively identify early enough to choose a proper reaction, that isn’t a guess? I argue that blocking is just a safer option if you’re gonna be guessing anyway. Obviously, if you know what’s happening for sure, and there’s a way to do damage in a situation or a way to create better spacing, then yeah… do it.

Really, I just reject the notion that a lot of SF4 players have that blocking is bad. It’s retarded.

If the connection is pretty good, and the way I’ve improved over the last for months, I think I have a possibility of beating him in a first to ten if I work on my blocking and punishes. Reacting is something you sort of adapt to, so whatever I see coming… I’ll try to react to if I know it’s coming. It’s just something I’m still not used to… and prediction.

Hav, I absolutely agree that people don’t just block in this game enough. The stigma of ‘down-back for life’ that surrounds SF4 in general has made people feel like they need to be crouch teching or mashing out reversals or jabs or even back dashing.
