Different strokes for different folks- THE RBS vs/And/ RB2 thread

I know everyone didn’t get nerfed in rb2, but I feel that every character I play with has been nerfed imo. Yes the only 2 characters I play that are still good in rb2 are krauser and kim. Maybe they are still good in rb2 due upgraded special moves or because of the gameplay, but imo they are a weaker version than the rbs. They took away range and priority on kim and krausers normal attacks. I do think cheng, franco, yama, and bob are better in rb2. I don’t know about chonshu and chonrei to judge them. Just because they gave krauser some new moves off his special grabs doesn’t make him better imo. It only changes the way you should play with him. It also means he wasn’t nerfed as hard as others were in rb2. I still think he’s good in rb2. I just prefer the rbs version of him that’s all. Not saying rb2 isn’t a good game. Try this for me. Take kim in rbs and do a sweep and do the samething in rb2 and tell me which one has more range. Do his slice kick from max range and see which one has better range. Rb2 version doesn’t have the 2nd hit on his slice kick. I just prefer my characters in rbs that’s all. You guys prefer your characters in rb2. There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m not a pro at rb2 like you guys are.

The main reason why people think ex tung is in the bottom tier because ex tung doesn’t have the options that regular tung has in rbs. He plays more like rb2 tung imo. They took away his rbs combos and weaken his projectile just like in rb2. I still think ex tung and rb2 are good characters, but they are thought of as the bottom tier of each game. Why are they bottom tier? Because they are nerfed versions of rbs tung.

results of balancing the game and diversifying the characters. the ABfCbC chain was getting really annoying in RBS. a lot of the complaint are from the shortened combos, but with all those BS in RB2 you don’t wanna see all those long chains (even though they gave kim that long ass CABC chain). chains became shorter cause they have feint combos now. ONLY part about RB2 i didn’t like was the loss of moves for certain characters. like terry losing his PC, joe losing his DP+C move, andy losing that HCB+C move.

though it didn’t break the game, i just like to be able to use many specials. unless they have no true value or use in the game. andys HCB+C looks good, but why use it if you can use 3 other moves instead? same for joe and terry. though in some instances, they just fucked the moves up. like mais QCB+C instead of the d-u+C which was way cheaper and far better a move. probably why they removed it in the first place. her QCB+C & repeat move from RBS, its really a move that aint even necessary. it needed to be replaced cause it was a shitty move that only ruined the game instead of improving it. you can replace it by another move it your combo hits, or replace it with her fireball or anything else if they block. why be able to chip of all that life that easy, makes no sense. thats why the shit had to leave. same for mais dp+A or C move from 97/98. wtf, that chip killer is damn deadly when you don’t have meter, it makes it cheap. IMO when things turn cheap, thats when you get rid of it. not to mention she was already damn safe and top tier in RBS, totally unneeded move that multi fan or hers. that doesn’t mean they should just remove it and not give her anything new instead of it.

all in all, i gotta say you sound a lot like i did 10 years ago. there even was a period in time i started disliking the RB games cause i was expecting far better shit to come out (back than, boy was i wrong). already had mastered the games and felt they where lacking. though a few years ago, i got back into the RB games as most of you realized not a lot of good 2d fighters did get released after 98. they weren’t coming out as frequently as they used to. and RB2 got some fun fighters to play with.

Interesting points guys…just got back from a long day so give me sometime and I will respond to your posts…

Thing with RB2 Mai is they didnt make up for what they took away from her…

c’mon that shitty ass crescent fan? Please… They took away multifan AND rising flame and didnt replace it with anything substantial…

I also enjoy having more moves at my disposal hence I find RB2 to be dry, boring and watered down… I’ll play RB2 for like 5 minutes, put it down and quickly go back to RBS…

Also I do believe there are quite a few that are better in RB2…but quite a few are nerfed to all hell as well…

Also yeah Chonrei is not bottom tier in RBS…hes actually pretty decent in the right hands…hes got one of the best dps in the game with ease…covers BOTH of his sides in the air…plus other things…

Shall I compare RBS Krauser and Rb2 Krauser next guys today?

-Dark Geese

Personally. I own and play the heck out of both games. RBS is easier for me to play because I have more experience in it, but RB2 feels like a separate entity. RBS IMO always felt like if you but put thease characters against the vs. series characters that the matchup would be pretty even. The moves came out fast and powerful. RB2 kinda felt like somewhere between an alpha game and a vs series game with it being towned down. I liked the originality in having different S and P Power moves (ala Andy and Joe aren’t doing the same super just more powerful like in RBS).

Also personally I like line shifting, but some people tend to rely on it as almost an annoyance like Marvel vs. Street Fighter with the helpers. Nothing wrong with it, every game has it’s methods to annoy the other player, but this games easiest way to annoy is line shifting. One of those you either like it or you don’t.

To me SNK did a great job in making sure RB2 is not just a superior product to RBS but just a different game. They have stressed this in the past and for thease 2 titles I thought they succeded.

I enjoy having more moves at my disposal, too. That’s why I play RB2, because line shift C doesn’t kill everything and you can create pressure and throw setups and stuff.

Something else you’ve neglected to mention is that the supers are much better overall in RB2. The grab supers are all 360s instead of the clunkier old-school motions, and almost all of the P-Powers have invincibility (while almost none in RBS have it).

What I think is happening with you is that since you don’t have anyone good to play, you gravitate toward games that seem fun when you try them out in training mode. RB2 doesn’t have much to offer on the single-player side of things; its fun doesn’t come out until you encounter someone else who knows what he’s doing. And you have NEVER played anyone good in RB2, so it’s no wonder you call it boring!

Some of the other horseshit you’ve tried to push on the community is the same way (i.e. Matrimelee, Ninja Master’s, Neowave) - games with cool combos that fall apart when you actually play someone.

-Josh

Tomahawk doesn’t hit Overhead…theres my argument.

Be nice now. I think that that’s the SNK communities charm. They’ll play stuff that’s not the greatest but can still be played competitively. Some SNK players pick boss characters too much though.:bluu:

Let me correct you on something Josh…I’ve never played anyone good in Rb2 eh?

Hey Roerick Josh is saying you suck!!! Dont you love it when people claim things they have no knowledge on???

I guess playing a top player in RB2 DeadlyRaveNeo (at NEC8, who despite being a top player also prefers rbs!) doesn’t count for anything according to you right Josh? (Gotcha!)

360’s may be better but for example Krauser’s P Power in RBS is better than his Gigantec in RB2…has more range in RBS than in RB2…

I still find RB2 boring and dull just like you dont like NeoWave, like I find 3s boring and dull…and a lot of Capcom games boring and dull… KOF 2002 has cooler combos than NeoWave** but I still like NeoWave better**… (Plus NeoWave has a XBL scene online and players are coming to support it…did you know that? I’m sure you didnt!!)

NeoWave has better presentation also…RBS has better presentation than RB2.

You cant figure me out Josh in this manner…its useless to try…you won’t succeed… I like what I like… and I’ll beat someone with gimmicks (flashy) or no gimmicks (ugly)…

I’m not that simple to figure out…

I try to push as much as possible until I find out where it stands… (ala Ninja Masters etc, you dont know until you give everything a chance!)

It doesnt matter hes not the one running the whole thing…I take it with a grain of salt…not everyone is gonna like everything…

hence we got this whole RBS vs. RB2 thing going on now…

Plus what may be good to someone may not be to others…I mean personally I could open up a can of worms with what he started but to me its not worth it…I’m better than that.

I can say I find RB2 boring without shitting on the game at all…

I think it is a good game…I just can’t get into it…

-Dark Geese

But also Cyclone has more range, Krauser has more comboes (due to the system), better range and priority in RBS, and other things…

Also RBS Tomahawk knocks down…in RB2 it doesnt…

**EDIT-**Something glitchy I found out on Billys level on RBS-

If Billys level has walls, if the opponent is on the wall and you all are in opposite planes…it seems Line Shift Cs will miss altogether…

so what do you do? You’ve gotta do Line Shift Sweeps…

I will test this in RB2 also. Since there are no walls, in RB2 this is not a problem…so consider it a RBS Wall glitch…

I claim dibs on it!

Also for those that wonder I believe the highest ranking in RBS is SSS…thats what I get a lot of…meaning a Perfect and you fulfill all the conditions…

Some people prefer the old school snk super motions, because that’s the way they learn how to play the games in the arcade. That’s a personal preference and it doesn’t make rb2 or rbs better or worst imo.

No fighting game is fun in single player imo.:chat::yawn: This is why I didn’t want this thread because it turns into flame daddy!:bluu::bluu: DG diss rb2 so now you have to come back and diss rbs. I know you prefer rb2 gameplay over rbs and that’s cool with me. I see that line shifting will keep you from playing rbs. It’s the same arguement with A3 or A2.

Because it hits multiple times and it knocks your foes down in rbs! That’s when you start your wakeup games.:china::devil:

See that’s what started it dg. You know that was a little bit over the top.:bluu: And that’s how flame wars start. All you had to say was you think Mai is 10X better in rbs than rb2. They fucked mai over just like they fucked laurence over in rb2. They don’t play ANYTHING like they did before.

Can’t we all just get along??:bluu::smile::xeye::xeye::china:

I thought I was just stating my opinion how I thought it was dry and watered down due to how they toned down a lot (being the combo system too) …And I dont just play Mai…I play Sokaku, Billy, Laurence, Krauser, and some more…and most of them are toned down to hell in RB2 also…

Like I say I’ll still play it…enter tournaments for it etc…but I dont play it really seriously…

That’s really about it…everyone has their preferences…I thought that was light compared to some of the other stuff I’ve heard and read in the other threads…

Esp shit like saying “Line shift ruins RBS”, shit like saying “the only reason I play RBS is because there’s gimmicks in it”  (Like I cant whoop your ass straight up OG style) …I mean damn thats wayyyyyyyyyy worse IMO than what I just said… Hell I’m still saying RB2 is a good game…but how often do you see these others say RBS is a good game?? Not too many…

Exactly…

I just said I find RB2 boring…but I will certainly still play it  and you better watch out for my Krauser in it…though I dont play it seriously…

Both are good games people…

Larry did you know about that wall glitch?

And hey not every fighting game has a boring 1p mode…try Soul Calibur III…Chronicles of the Sword!! :nunchuck:   :wgrin:

That wasn’t a boring 1p mode, that was an ultra-boring 1p mode, with non-skippable cutscenes.

LOL…I was being sarcastic to lighten things up…it is surely not your typical get to the boss and fight like a typical fighting game lol.

Lets hope SCIV gets it right lol…

SCIV with online play doesn’t really need much of a 1P mode outside of the basics, and a way to dress up your chars.

I’ve saw the other post about rbs in other threads.:bluu::bluu: No they don’t say rbs is a good game. They say it’s good but full of gimmicks!>!>!>!?!?!?!?:bluu::xeye::bluu: It would be great if it didn’t have a domminate line shifting attacks.:bluu: Blah blah blah. MvC2 would be good without the helpers also.:xeye::xeye: Cvs2 would be good without the roll or roll cancels. KOF would be good if it wasn’t for the rolls. KOF95 would be good if you couldn’t dodge to an attack. Parrys are too strong. Throws are too strong. This game would be good if chun li was so strong. (3s and A2) this game would be better if dp’s trade. This game would be better if is the biggest copout. Play what you like to play. :xeye: All of those reasons sounds like whining to me. I’m going to :zzz::zzz::zzz::zzz:

It is whining…all it is to it. I will test more of that Billy wall glitch tomorrow when I get back from work…

since it seems new for you…

it does if it wants to appeal to the scrub masses
