Did you know about the release of Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator?

Even when you buy “revisions” all this shit is still leaps and bounds cheaper than other hobbies.

The amount of changes that Revelator has over Sign is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than a simple little polish.

Also, by the time that SFV releases the 2nd season or whatver the cost of the game will be around 120 (if you buy the season passes) so the comparassion is more than moot.
It always amaze me how fucking cheap are most of the people on this site.

bought sfv for $33 so…in a year once you’ve paid over $200 for basically the same GG game…

lol wut?

it was over exaggerated

If you look at ASW revision pricing in a vacuum as an already avid GG player, it might not seem like a lot of money for how much time you might get out of it, but think of all the people who will never make that leap BECAUSE of the pricing. Players who just want to dabble in GG (that might get into competitive later) aren’t going to keep shelling out $60 for every version, especially if it didn’t add a character they wanted to play. They will ask, why isn’t there a DLC upgrade option like every other game, feel ripped off with their initial purchase (which becomes a useless defunct game when there is no one to play against), and stop purchasing ASW shit. The player base shrinks with each revision, which further encourages even more people to not bother ‘upgrading’.

We watched it happen with blazblue, and it’s sad that GG is still continuing down the same path when it clearly does not need to.

My sentiments exactly. I’m not saying the game isn’t worth it, I’m saying that the business model is all kinds of fucked. It’s particularly devastating for people who only play the game casually. You’re essentially banking on the hardcore market (which is shrinking unless you bring in more new fans than you’re losing old ones) since a lot of consumers will simply wait for a price drop, or wait for the next installment, or whatever because they know there will be a new version that will make this one obsolete. This in turn cuts into profits and forces an even worse release schedule in order to remain profitable, particularly with the Japanese market being as fucked as it is regarding quick sales.

My point wasn’t whether or not it was worth it, if the game was good or not, or even if SF is more expensive. It was that the business model of “your old disc is useless now” makes a lot of customers feel ripped off, even if the end result is roughly the same pricing. Also, if anyone is honestly defending the BlazBlue business model, then I don’t know what to say, because multiple retail releases that make previous ones obsolete in a year is a horrible idea. Plus, you know, the whole idea of selling individual DLC characters on top of the retail price that you get for free in next year’s revision. With SFV, the casual consumer could just not buy the DLC and still play the game online with the people that did.

Sign was fantastic, and I’m sure Revelator will be at least as good, but it’s not a good long-term model for releases. No matter how good the games are, at some point people will get sick of it. SFIV got shit for having four releases (two of which were DLC packs that didn’t cost full price) over a period of seven years. Xrd’s had two full price releases over what, like a year and a half?

You think revelator is good, wait til you see the next full price guilty gear a year and a half from now as it will blow the socks off it!

Not even to mention the next full price one after that, hoo boy.

Lol @ the GG player base shrinking. It has done nothing but grow by leaps and bounds since Xrd…

is that why there is less than 100 people playing online in north america?

That’s way more than usual for noon on a weekday…

You know how many hours of gameplay I got out of Xrd?

Do you really think 60 dollars for spending 400+ of fun on a year basis is expensive? Fucking movie tickets are at least 10 dollars a pop for an usual hour and a half. Shit, between sessions locally and online, the price of SFV’s entertainment value has more than been paid for; maybe I’ve broken even when you take into account that I got PS4 just to play it.

Compare this to an MMO where you pay 15 dollars a month and its 4 months down to buy a new version of a game. That still leaves 8 other months you aren’t paying for because its a flat 60. Even at their most expensive, FGs still amount to dirty cheap. When you consider that a lot of people stick to a few, its even cheaper.

I can’t agree with this more. Let’s be real here for a second: if you can’t afford $60 every year for something you really enjoy doing you are either a college student or a loser…

I love the GG series but yeah, this one´s got the short end of the stick on the advertisement side.

so what

balance changes should be free, new characters dlc. Even old man capcom realizes this by now. Arcsys is completely out of touch.

>Judging a fighting game’s playerbase by its online popularity

Lol

Not to mention this isn’t really what I would consider a popular time to play the game. Last night (a much more usual time to play) when I logged on all three lobbies in the New England room where full…

when the new game is not even a week old, yeah that is a completely fair way to judge it.

It’s not just balance changes. Its the presentation, the shitty long ass story mode everybody insists should be there, its creating an excellent tutorial to help new players and most important of all:

It’s the god damned quality control so that random bullshit isn’t fucking happening. Oh hey, remember when Ermac could randomly build a full bar of meter for no fucking reason in MKX? Or all those infinites that Sinder had in 9?

But sure, no prob, lets forget all that shit.

Annnnnndddd there goes your last ounce of credibility.
