Did ono say anything about the future of SF4?

dudley is in ther next one.

My head hurts

i was under the impression that the last dlc was maxing out the blu ray disc?

like, the fact that they made some adjustments to the background in order to save space on the disc had something to do with the fact that the game was too big.

edit: (the post below)

The next SFIV is most likely to be SFIV Dash. More characters WOOT WOOT!

lol give this guy a round of appluase

lol this is even more funny
BLURAY up to 50 GB per disc
360 dual layer dvd 8.5 GB

MAX OUT BLURAY LOL

i didnt mean literally max out…i just thought that the last dlc was supposed to be like, the most sf4 you could get? its a question…im asking because i dont know asshole

Hopefully they make a new one make it not to expensive for arcade owner’s to upgrade and than include the console characters and tweak it. Honestly i’d prefer no new characters and just pure fleshing out of the current ones + console. Giving arcade 8 more characters that with some polishing could be very effective.

They have many options about how to deploy SF4 Dash, but they have interesting reasons for wanting a disc game instead of DLC. For one thing, it depends on how different the update is. If it vastly changes around the game’s architecture (which may be needed if, say, they change the netcode), is patching SF4 really a practical way of doing it? Programmers know that this type of thing just leads to extreme headaches. They’d rather give you a fresh, clean new game built from the bottom up.

Even if patching the game is possible, they have to figure out how to recoup their development costs. Ono has said he’s still surprised at the lack of people who don’t have internet connections to their consoles, and these people simply cannot purchase a game if it’s DLC. Not to mention, DLC updates typically don’t sell as well as disc-based games for a wide variety of factors. They may choose to put it on a disc simply from a financial point of view.

Of course, most SRK posters would prefer it’s a DLC update, because we connect our consoles to the internet and we’re mostly computer-savvy and lazy. Even though we’re the best players, we’re a small part of the market that purchased SF4.

I do agree that somehow, Capcom needs to figure out how to unify the console and the arcade version. They’ve had opportunities to do it in the past, but they’ve chosen to wait… I suppose they think it’s not a big priority, which is a shame. If they do go the DLC route for the update, they need to ensure that the consoles and arcades are updated at the SAME time. Japan plays in the arcades primarily, regardless of whether there’s a console version out, so it’s not going to hurt the arcade market, and the ship has long sailed on the US scene, who would like to play on the console release at the same time. Just release them at the same time and make everyone happy.

Oh, and they need to handle character unlocks like they do for Rock Band 2. You go into the options and can unlock all characters, colors and taunts… but it disables saving and disables achievements. Next time you turn your console on (or when you disable the unlock cheat), it reverts back to your last save. This makes playing at your friend’s house or at tournaments braindead easy, but also doesn’t muck with their “unlock all characters” achievement.

It will probably be an expansion set with some tweeks to gameplay and maybe add Dee Jay and T. Hawk, I expect this announcement to be announced in the middle of August of 2009.

I expect an update to be one huge DLC pack a la GTAIV: The Lost & Damned.

This way people who want it can just download it, and people who don’t want to don’t have to, yet still play sfiv. They can even put in characters if they really want to, but they’d put them all in the same download, so we don’t have an issue where Joe has X characters but Sue has Y characters

Yeah, I understand.

However, bear with me when I say anyone who is technology savvy would have a good laugh at that question.

DLC goes to the HDD, it cannot suddenly write or edit stuff on your physical game media.

For me, a numerical sequel would need to be built from the ground up with a new engine and system.

That would give SFIV a very short life AND make for a big waste- there is enough new and as yet unpolished elements of the SFIV engine that could be explored more while keeping the experience relatively fresh. I’d welcome an SFIV dash with a few extra characters, console characters in the arcade version, a handful of new backgrounds and possibly some alternate Ultras (choice, like SA system in 3s).

Of course, this is what caused SF2 to lose momentum in the 90s, as ever-diminishing results came in for sales of re-hashes and upgrades, but I feel if Capcom give us a fair dose of new content in SF4 dash (and I feel LOADS of customisable costume stuff is the real money maker) then it should be OK for one go. SFIV dash in 2010, SFV in maybe another 2.5 years.

I feel taking the Tekken model of a few new characters and graphics tweak isn’t SF, it’s sequels are more radical and infrequent- it’s updates that have the more conservative Namco style changes.

I really don’t see this being DLC. If they were just going to release new characters then yeah, but if you look at practically every update to a Capcom fighter post ST it was different enough to warrant its own release. Examples include the Alpha, vs. and SF3 series. Granted DLC didn’t exist then, but each new iteration of those fighters played significantly different from its predecessors, and I don’t think SF4 will be any different. I’m not sure if a proportionally radical change could be handled via DLC. Also as was mentioned in this thread Ono stated that a lot of people still don’t have their consoles hooked up to the net.

I expect what will happen is that we’ll see a new game with a much lighter price tag. I’m thinking $29.99 / $39.99. Even though the games I’ve listed above played differently a good chunk of the development was already finished when it came time to make the new version. This would be a good solution for everyone. A lot of people simply don’t like DLC and they want a physical copy. You don’t alienate the people who don’t have internet access and you don’t turn away casual fans who don’t want to shell out full price for an update.

Any new version of the game will be sold as a separate disc. It will not be DLC.

And Ultra set ups are no more broken than Parry > cr.MK xx SA3

i have my doubts about a downloadable version. if they have been paying attention at all, the biggest thing wrong with the console releases, is the net code. im no expert, and i may very well have no idea what im talking about here, but i dont think they can fix that on the current disc.

new net code+ at least 2 characters +small tweaks and balances+ possible changes to game engine(smaller reversal window pls)= about 60$

plus most arcade only players have not been familiarized with the console characters. itd make sense to me to release an arcade version with them included

If they made it DLC I’m pretty sure the organisers of the local console tournament would break down and cry. Also what HNIC Mike said. Not to mention one of the SFIV guys specifically said they don’t want downloadable stuff which means the game can’t interact with people who haven’t downloaded it, which new characters would do.

We will probably have a new game for a reduced price, since I expect them to rework the online infrastructure.

I expect at least 5 new characters(Karin, Cody, Ibuki, T.Hawk, Dee Jay and more?) along with more stages and personal one as well.I think there’s been rumors of seeing more super and ultra as well(Ultra II).

I’m all for ONE update, but that’s it.I want to see SF IV being the main game of EVO for a couple of years and see the quality of play evolve over time.KOF can do a new game every year for all I care, but a quality SF will usually evolve over time and new stuff is discovered years after it’s been released.SF IV at EVO(especially the final) was light year ahead of what we saw in february or last year.

Adopt the typical Blizzard model of releasing one game(starcraft, warcraft, diablo) and release one expansion to improve it and let the players push the game to it’s limit.

No Street fighter V until 2012-2013 imo.

Players who have no online won’t stop them from making it DLC. They could even sell it as a straight download via flash disk install.

great interview with Ono!
